Welcome to the Beatles Rarity Of The Week. Featured here is an early take of “Helter Skelter” recorded on July 18, 1968 which was a couple months before the version heard on the White Album. This recording appeared on The Beatles Anthology 3 CD set but it was edited down to 4 and a half minutes there while the complete take actually clocks in at around 12 minutes. Presented here is an alternate “Helter Skelter” take 2 where the Anthology account has been artificially extended out to the full 12 minutes. This clever editing even had me fooled for awhile and gives us a feel for experiencing a listen to the full version. One of these days if the “real thing” surfaces that will be even better.
