Get Back! Sir Paul and Ronnie Wood are mobbed by fans after they perform on stage with James McCartney

PUBLISHED: 28 March 2013

As any aspiring frontman will tell you, it’s important to get your backing band right.
James McCartney had the perfect pair to make him shine as he performed songs from his upcoming debut album this week.
The 35-year-old was joined on stage by his Beatle father Paul McCartney and Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood.

Sir Paul, 70, watched proudly from the wings before accompanying his son on the piano, while 65-year-old Wood played guitar.
The trio played songs from James’s new album, Me, ahead of a 47-date US tour later this year.
Perhaps predictably, it was the two veterans who stole the limelight.

Both were mobbed by fans as they left the show at the Ambassadors Theatre in London.
At one point Paul looked slightly scared as he couldn't find his car due to all the commotion - also losing his wife Nancy Shevell in the crowds.
But the pair eventually managed to find each other, looking relieved as they settled back in their car.
Wood’s wife Sally Humphreys, 34, who is a theatre producer, had put together the event.
Also in attendance was James’s sister, fashion designer Stella McCartney.
Last year James revealed he was considering forming a group featuring the offspring of the Fab Four, including John Lennon’s youngest son Sean, 37, George Harrison’s only son, Dhani, 34, and Ringo Starr’s 45-year-old son Jason.

An onlooker said that one fan kept shouting that he'd come all the way from Liverpool to see Paul and wanted the rock star's autograph.
Ronnie's wife Sally Humphreys, who is a theatre producer, had put together the event and encouraged her husband to perform.
He tweeted earlier this week: 'Don't forget I'm going to be playing at the James McCartney gig this Wednesday.'
X Factor supremo Simon Cowell was also seen leaving the theatre in his standard black jumper and jeans combination.

Front door from the house where Paul McCartney grew up to sell for £5,000

Magical Mystery Door: Humble-looking front door from the house where Paul McCartney grew up to sell for £5,000

  • Paul McCartney walked through the door every day between 1955 and 1964
  • It's thought more than 100 Beatles songs were written behind it
  • Shabby, yellow portal was sold to Glen South after new tenant redecorated
  • He has now decided to declutter and it will go under the hammer on May 10
By DAMIEN GAYLE
This humble-looking front door is expected to sell for a up to £5,000 at auction - because it once belonged to the house Sir Paul McCartney grew up in.
The Beatles icon learned to play the trumpet, piano, guitar and drums at 20 Forthlin Road in Allerton, Liverpool.
And every day between 1955 and 1964 he would come home and open this shabby yellow door before going inside and writing his future classics.

It is thought more than 100 songs were written in the house, according to auctioneer Chris Albury, who is handling the sale of the door at Dominic Winter Auctioneers in Cirencester, Gloucestershire.
He has given the door an estimate of between £3,000 and £5,000.
He said: 'There are millions of Beatles fans who would like to see the door, touch it and be photographed in front of it, even if they don't want it.
'However, it is a unique and iconic item and there will be more obsessive collector fans out there who will not hesitate to bid keenly.'
Provenance: The McCartneys left the Forthlin Road in 1964 and the property was taken over by Sheila Jones, who sold on the door to Glen South when she redecorated the home in the Seventies
Provenance: The McCartneys left the Forthlin Road in 1964 and the property was taken over by Sheila Jones, who sold on the door to Glen South when she redecorated the home in the Seventies

The McCartneys left the house in 1964 and the property was taken over by Sheila Jones who, during her time there, acted as an unofficial ambassador for the Beatles to fans who came from around the world to visit the home.

But in the late Seventies Mrs Jones decided to have the house refurbished and get rid of all of its the doors, window fittings and tiles.
The door's current owner, Glen South, bought it from her through a mutual contact.
Mr South, a singer, met The Beatles once when his band Gee South played as a support group at Northwich Memorial Hall on December 1, 1962.
He later entered the door into a charity sale but bought it back and it has remained behind his sofa ever since.
But Mr South has now decided to clear out some clutter and the door will go under the hammer on April 10.
Mr Albury added: 'It is not easy putting a value on odd things like this but we're happy to try.
'There is a precedent for this sale. Paul McCartney's bedroom door with the same provenance sold at a London auction in 1995 for £2,875.
'Subsequently that door went on display at the Hard Rock Cafe in London.'
Mrs Jones moved out of Forthlin Road in 1995 with the house bought by The National Trust.

Paul McCartney will return to Boston's Fenway Park this summer.
The Boston Globe reported that the former Beatle will stage a concert on July 9, while the Red Sox are in Seattle.
Promoter LiveNation has not announced the show or ticket information.
The 70-year-old McCartney recently announced the launch of his "Out There" world tour, which will kick off in Warsaw, Poland on June 22. Dates in Vienna, Austria, and Verona, Italy, have also been announced.
He will perform at the Bonnaroo music festival in Tennessee in June.
McCartney last performed at Fenway with two shows in August 2009.
In addition to McCartney, Fenway has lined up country stars Jason Aldean and Miranda Lambert for shows on July 12-13, and Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake on Aug. 10-11.

'You Gave Me The Answer:' James From Blighty Asks...

www.paulmccartney.com

Back in February PaulMcCartney.com launched 'You Gave Me The Answer', a new feature where Paul answers a question from his fans each month. After the incredible 10,000 received in the first 24 hours, we have now had over 23,000 sent in – thank you!

Today we're pleased to announce that the second question for 'You Gave Me The Answer' comes from James in ‘Blighty’ (for fans outside of the UK ‘Blighty’ is English slang for Britain):

James asks: "Who was the biggest influence upon your bass playing?"
During a recent trip to the PaulMcCartney.com office Paul gave us his answer: "Thanks for sending in your question, James. The biggest influence on my bass playing was James Jamerson who played on many of my favourite Motown releases."

For fans unaware of Jamerson’s work we’ve put together a little bit of info for you:

James Jamerson played bass in the legendary Motown house band ‘The Funk Brothers’ after being recruited by label founder Berry Gordy. Jamerson is credited as one of the most influential bassists of all time and features on releases by a whole host of classic recording artists including Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, Martha and the Vandellas, Marvin Gaye, the Four Tops and The Supremes.

For those of you who wish to explore his life further, and the other musicians who played in The Funk Brothers, there’s a very cool documentary available called ‘Standing in the Shadows of Motown’

You can also check out Paul’s involvement in helping to restore a piano belonging to Motown Records, HERE!

To submit your question for next month's 'You Gave Me The Answer', click HERE!

If you have a favourite song that Jamerson appeared on, let us know in the comments below…

STUART BEATLE

STUART BEATLE
By Bill Harry
24 march 2013

Saw that Beatles documentary on Sky Arts this afternoon and wasn't impressed. There were shots of Stuart during their performances, with his guitar clearly in view as he faced the audience. Then Allan Williams came out with that false story that he played with his back to the audience and that picture from the Wyvern Club audition was shown when Stu was tuning up with his back to the photographer. I saw Stuart perform from the days when we booked them at the art college and never once did I see him play with his back to the audience. When Allan mentioned they played at the Jacaranda, a photo of them at the Casbah was shown - making people believe it was the Jac. Lots of Beatles myths trotted out again by people who should have known better and the main thrust of the documentary seemed to be their appearance at the Olympia, Paris.

Bill Marshall, who co-wrote Allan's book, was a Daily Mirror reporter. When I handled Kim Wilde I arranged lunch. I brought the book with me for him to sign and he told me he made much of it up. For instance, Allan had showed him the contract he had from Bruno Koschmeider as an agent to book the Beatles on their first trip to Hamburg. The contract got damaged in the fire at his Soho Street Club. Bill Marshall begins the book by saying that contract is Allan's management contract with the Beatles. The book then goes into various made-up fantasies, such as Stuart got beaten up at Litherland Town Hall. When they began playing at Litherland, Stuart had remained in Germany. The only incident with Stu being attacked took place at Lathom Hall...and the rest of the book should be analysed to compare with the true facts and people can see it's due to Bill Marshall's journalistic imagination.

Because the book was mostly written by Bill Marshall, not Allan, and that is the type of thing Bill conjured up. Then people begin to believe it, even Allan himself. I read the original manuscript of Allan's first unpublished biography and it has nothing like that in it.

Paul McCartney Recorded New Songs With Mark Ronson

Paul McCartney Recorded New Songs With Mark Ronson

Former Beatle collaborated with producer on three tunes

By Eric R. Danton
March 22, 2013

Word that Paul McCartney is working on a new album was overshadowed earlier this week by news that he's also planning a world tour, but details are starting to emerge about the rocker's latest recording project. Mark Ronson is involved, for one thing.

After DJing McCartney's wedding to Nancy Shevall in 2011, Ronson joined the former Beatle in the studio to produce three new songs, he told The Associated Press. "It's really good. He writes really good songs," Ronson said.

The producer is no stranger to working with talented performers, having collaborated with Grammy winners Amy Winehouse, Adele, Bruno Mars and Christina Aguilera. But teaming with McCartney, he said, was "on another level."

"He understands that you're so nervous to be working with Paul McCartney, 'cause everyone is," Ronson said. "He gives you a lot of leeway, but then at the end of the day, you need to deliver the goods."

Ronson didn't talk specifics about how the new songs sound, but McCartney told Rolling Stone last year that because of the wedding connection, he wrote a celebratory tune to match called "Life of a Party Girl." Ronson expressed admiration for McCartney's broad sonic palette, given the singer's vast catalog with the Beatles, Wings and on his own. The new album will follow Kisses on the Bottom, a collection of standards that McCartney released last year.

"He's done every kind of music. He invented the rule book in several different ways," Ronson said. "I don't know if [our stuff] is revolutionary, but they're brilliant songs. I just tried to give him a sound he was looking for."

A Deeper Shade Of Blue: US Showings On 28th March

www.paulmccartney.com

‘A Deeper Shade Of Blue’ - Screening on 28th March 2013 across the US for one night only

Jack McCoy’s surf film ‘A Deeper Shade Of Blue’ premiered last year at the Santa Barbara Film Festival. The documentary tells the history of surfing and will be screened for one night only on Thursday 28th March in 400 cinemas across 47 of the 50 states in the US. US fans can find their local showing by clicking HERE!

(Click for larger image)

During the editing of the film Jack put one of his surfing sequences to the song ‘Is This Love?’ from The Fireman album ‘Electric Arguments’. A mutual friend, Chris Thomas, saw the footage while visiting McCoy in Australia and on his return to the UK gave Paul a copy of the sequence.

Paul thought Jack’s images would be suitable for the then unreleased track “Blue Sway” and so McCoy compiled and edited footage filmed off Tahiti's Teahupoo reef to create what became the ‘Blue Sway’ video. See the final result below:

The special ‘Blue Sway’ video, directed by Paul and Jack, will be screened alongside the film ‘A Deeper Shade Of Blue’ which also features The Fireman on the soundtrack. Other musicians featured in the film include Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Iggy Pop and Jack Johnson.

Jack has told us the film is for, “Anyone from 8 - 80 years old, male or female, families... Everyone!”. For your chance to catch the music video and film on the big screen, get your tickets HERE!
‘Blue Sway’ was released on ‘McCartney II’ in 2011 as part of the Paul McCartney Archive Collection. Fans can get their copy from Amazon and iTunes.

First 2013 live dates announced with more to follow in the coming weeks

22nd June: Warsaw, Poland - National Stadium
27th June: Vienna, Austria - Happel Stadium

Paul has announced his first live dates of 2013, which will be part of an all new tour called ‘Out There!’. The tour will see Paul and his band travel the world throughout the year, even visiting some places they've never been before. Further announcements and dates will be added in the coming weeks. Stay tuned to PaulMcCartney.com for updates and ticket details.
Following this morning's announcement that music's leading man will play at Warsaw’s National Stadium this June – his first ever show in Poland - Paul has also confirmed he’ll perform at Vienna’s Happel Stadium. This date will be Paul's fourth ever show in the Austrian capital, having first played there twenty years ago as part of the 1993 'New World Tour'. His last visit was in 2003 on the 'Back In The World' Tour.

The 'Out There!' tour will feature music from one of the best loved catalogues in popular music. Paul will perform songs that span his entire career - as a solo artist, member of Wings and of course as a Beatle.

The McCartney live experience is a once in a lifetime opportunity; in just three hours some of the greatest moments in music from the last 50 years are relived and for many have become the soundtrack to living. Last year marked 40 years since Paul's premier tour as a solo artist and these past four decades have seen him play in a staggeringly impressive range of venues and locations, including outside the Coliseum in Rome, in Moscow’s Red Square, at the White House, a free show in Mexico to over 400,000 people and even into Space! Having played with his band - Paul ‘Wix’ Wickens (keyboards), Brian Ray (bass guitar/guitar), Rusty Anderson (guitar) and Abe Laboriel Jr. (drums) - for over ten years, the show never disappoints.

Paul is throwing himself into 2013 with full force following on from yet another landmark year in 2012, which saw him conclude his record-breaking 'On The Run' tour, release his chart topping 'Kisses On The Bottom' album, gain a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, play at both the Diamond Jubilee and Olympics Opening Ceremony and be named MusiCares Person of the Year, to highlight just a few memorable moments. With the 'Out There!' tour and a new studio album in the works, it looks like 2013 shows no signs of Paul slowing down.

More exciting announcements to follow...

Please Please Me - 50th Anniversary Beatles Auction

News Source: Omega Auctions; 22nd March 2013 marks the 50th anniversary of the release of The Beatles first album “Please Please Me” and to celebrate the occasion over 250 lots of rare vinyl, photographs and memorabilia will go up under the hammer in Stockport. The auction will be broadcast live over the internet is expected to realise in excess of £100,000.

Stockport, Cheshire (PRWEB UK) 15 March 2013

The 22nd March 2013 marks the 50th anniversary of the release of The Beatles first album “Please Please Me” and to celebrate the occasion over 250 lots of rare Beatles Memorabilia will go up for sale through specialist Rock & Pop Auctioneers, Omega Auctions. Amongst the star lots are a collection of incredibly rare photographs from their iconic performance at Shea Stadium in 1965 and a further collection of colour photographs taken in 1964 with both collections expected to sell for in excess of £15,000. Other rarities include a copy of the iconic album Please Please Me in stereo and on the black and gold label, estimated to bring around £5,000 and coming from the Mold Assembly Hall in Wales is a complete one off handmade poster advertising their performance at the hall on Thursday 24th Jan 1963.which hung on the wall of the Mold Cooperative Building until relatively recently and is estimated to sell for up to £5,000.
With sets of Beatles autographs’ being highly sought after by collectors, the sale features seven complete sets with one of them being a signed caricature of the Beatles by reknowned Australian caricature artist Tony Rafty, which was drawn and signed in 1964 when the fab four toured Australia and is being sold with copyright. An extremely early and very nearly complete set of Beatles autographs signed on the back of a ticket for their gig on the 10th Feb 1962 (same day apparently that they were rejected by Decca!) at St. Paul`s Presbyterian Church Youth Club Hall in Tranmere, Birkenhead is expected to sell for around £2,000 – it is missing a part of the ticket and Paul McCartneys signature as it was torn off by the seller to give to her friend who was a big fan of McCartney. Auctioneer Paul Fairweather states “if the ticket and signatures had been complete it would have worth double but the fact that it is such an early ticket and is signed, it will still receive a lot of interest.”
The auction, which will be broadcast live over the internet is set to attract Beatles fans worldwide and is expected to realise in excess of £100,000. Fairweather states “we are looking forward to a fabulous sale and whilst there are many items expected to achieve four figures or more, we have tried to ensure that there is something to suit all budgets”.
The auction is to be held at 3.00pm on Friday 22nd March in Stockport. More information and a link to the catalogue is available via the website.
