Paul McCartney's On The Tour blitz of shows made big news in July, but couldn't beat out Taylor Swift in sales for the month, according to the ticket sales report for the period issued by TicketsNow.com.
Music fans made Swift the top-selling concert ticket with 6.3% of all concert tickets sold on the TicketsNow website that month, the report said. Paul McCartney came in second with 5.7% of sales. The rest of the top five: U2 with 4.6%, Katy Perry with 4.0% and Lil Wayne with 3.4%.
In overall ticket sales for the month, the U.S. Open Tennis tournament placed first with 19%. Paul McCartney was seventh with 2.3%. In between were ticket sales for "The Book of Mormon," the San Francisco Giants, the New York Yankees, the Boston Red Sox and Swift.
In the music ticket tally for June, McCartney and Swift were reversed with McCartney taking first place with 5.7% and Swift in second with 5.5% of sales. The rest of the top five belonged to U2, Katy Perry and Kenny Chesney.
Overall in June, McCartney placed eighth in sales. The U.S. Open Tennis tournament was the top ticket for that month, also.
McCartney's On the Run tour began July 15-16 with concerts at New York's Yankee Stadium and ended Aug. 4 at the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
