SAN ANTONIO - Rock legend Paul McCartney is slated to play a fund raising event to benefit the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts.

The announcement was revealed to the public Monday morning, just before tickets went on sale.

McCartney fan Karl Yelderman was first in line at the Tobin Center Box Office at 6 a.m.

"I saw the morning newspaper and I got in the car and came down here; no shower no shave but I can do that later," Yelderman said.

The concert is a fund raiser for the Tobin Center and will help put the performing arts center on the map.

"Our board was very supportive of getting the biggest rock star in the world," said Mike Fresher with theTobin Center. "It's absolutely unheard of and it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the folks in San Antonio to not only see one of the only remaining Beatles, but also to support the Tobin Center 31."

McCartney easily sells out 50,000-seat arenas but this will be a rare intimate performance with only 1,750 seats to fill.

"That's really why I want to go to this because of the small venue," said Jon Daubert, a fan.

Ticket prices aren't listed through the Tobin Center because it's a benefit show.

However, tickets at the venue were being sold for $250 to $3,500 each.

The Tobin Center's grand opening takes place Sept. 4.

The Paul McCartney show will take place on Oct. 1.

Some other shows scheduled at the Tobin Center  include Ringo Starr, Lynard Skynard, Jason Mraz, Bill Cosby, Jethro Tull and Santana.
