While more than a million packed Times Square to watch the ball drop, Madonna, Elton John, Barbra Streisand, Paul McCartney and other rock royalty partied in paradise to ring in 2014.
The Material Girl celebrated at designer Valentino’s Gstaad home, Chalet Gifferhorn, with 60 guests and arrived in “wraparound black sunglasses” that she never took off, a spy said
Newly single Madge arrived with her kids but without ex-boy toy Brahim Zaibat, whom she split with this month. Guests, including Elton John, “were figuring out who to set her up with,” a spy said. “One joked that she needs to go on Tinder” (the app for casual hook-ups).
Seemingly still in the mood, Madonna, 55, showed off an “art” image of a giant phallus on her phone. The singer’s son Rocco break-danced while her smaller kids, Mercy and David, horsed around on Valentino’s valuable collection of Claude Lalanne sheep sculptures. (A flock sold at Christie’s in 2011 for $7.5 million.)
In St. Barts, Diane von Furstenberg celebrated her birthday on husband Barry Diller’s yacht Eros with guests including Streisand and Universal honcho Ron Meyer. Floating nearby was George Lucas, as well as David Geffen, who hosted Robbie Robertson, Carole Bayer Sager and Jimmy Iovine on his yacht, Rising Sun.
Aby Rosen and Samantha Boardman hosted a fireworks show for Alex Rodriguez, Larry Gagosian, Vladimir Doronin and Robert Downey Jr., among others.
Later, island faithful including Marc Jacobs, Brian Grazer and artist Richard Prince headed to the luxe Hotel Taiwana for a dinner co-hosted by Michael Fuchs and Tico Mugrabi.
After midnight, Paul McCartney brought the house down by spontaneously jumping onstage to sing Wings’ tune “Goodnight Tonight,” and luxury developer Izak Senbahar accompanied him on bongos.
Also in town celebrating were Jimmy Buffett, DJ David Guetta, and Austin and Gabriela Hearst.
