Bonnaroo 2013 Lineup: Paul McCartney, Mumford & Sons, Tom Petty Headlining
FEBRUARY 19, 2013
Paul McCartney will take center stage at this year's Bonnaroo festival, which will invade Manchester, Tenn. from June 13-16. Macca, Mumford & Sons and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers lead this year's lineup, announced on Tuesday (Feb. 19).
The annual four-day music festival will be home to a rare U.S. festival appearance for McCartney, who headlined Coachella in 2009. Last year, the 70-year-old released a collection of standards, "Kisses on the Bottom," and performed with the remaining members of Nirvana at 12-12-12: The Concert For Sandy Relief as well as on "Saturday Night Live."
Meanwhile, Mumford & Sons are coming off of an album of the year win at the Grammy Awards: "Babel," their sophomore album which scored a massive debut upon its release last September, walked away with the top prize at the ceremony earlier this month. The Mumfords last played Bonnaroo in 2011, where the folk-rock group performed to a massive crowd on the second-biggest stage.
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers round out the headliners for the 2013 fest, seven years after leading the 2006 lineup. The legendary rock group was also announced as the HEADLINER OF THE 2013 FIREFLY MUSIC FESTIVAL, which will take place one weekend after Bonnaroo at Delaware's Dover International Speedway.
Below the headliners, Bonnaroo 2013 sports one of its deepest lineups in its history: Bjork, Wilco, Pretty Lights, R. Kelly and Wu-Tang Clan comprise a diverse group of artists likely hitting the main stage, while Daniel Tosh will lead the Comedy Tent lineup. "Ho Hey" stars the Lumineers, rap wunderkind Kendrick Lamar, veteran rockers ZZ Top and Hot 100 champs Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are also on the bill, and this year's "Superjam" will feature My Morning Jacket's Jim James with John Oates, Zigaboo Modeliste, Preservation Hall Jazz Band and more special guests.
The Bonnaroo 2013 lineup was announced during a special, highly wacky media event on Tuesday, in which "Weird Al" Yankovic (who is also performing in Manchester this year) hosted a web-friendly telethon, streamed live on YouTube. Portugal. The Man, also on this year's lineup, delivered a special performance, while Eugene Mirman and Mike Brbiglia were among those manning phone banks.
Last year's Bonnaroo lineup was topped by Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Phish, and served as the location of D'Angelo's first U.S. performance in over a decade when the reclusive R&B star joined the Roots' Questlove onstage for last year's Superjam. Tickets for this year's festival go on sale this Saturday (Feb. 23) at noon ET.
