Paul McCartney's DJ Shares His Beatles Mix
By MIRIAM COLEMAN
Dec 8, 2013
Chris Holmes has been touring as Paul McCartney's opening DJ act for four years. He recently shared with fans a collection of his favorite remixes that he made over his tenure traveling with the former Beatle, whom he describes as "the nicest boss in the world."
"I finally had some time to put together a mix for all of you who've been asking over the years of my Beatles/McCartney stuff for tour," the DJ said in his notes for the Soundcloud mix. "I've had the best time in the history of the world making the tracks and putting it together."
The playlist, which runs about two hours long through 40 tracks, is anchored with recordings by the Beatles, Paul McCartney, and Wings – including a track of the Fab Four singing "I Want To Hold Your Hand" in German. Covers by a range of artists including Chubby Checker, Nancy Sinatra and the Langley Schools Music Project mix it up.
Holmes clearly loves his job. In Rolling Stone's recent cover story on Paul McCartney, the DJ talked about life on the road with the rock n' roll legend. "He gives everyone their moment," he said. "When we’re on the road, he’ll come up to the stage manager and dance with him a little bit, and for the rest of that guy’s life he can say, 'This one time I danced with Paul McCartney.' That’s just who Paul is. It’s not something he turns on for the cameras."
