JOHN HUTCH AND THE BEATLES?
11/01/2013

Bill Harry in his facebook:
"Jim Richards asked me if Brian Epstein had asked Johnny Hutchinson to join the Beatles. I replied: Brian Epstein did want Johnny to become Pete Best's replacement and Cilla Black confirmed it. It was Johnny who had played with them on a few occasions. Johnny did not want to join the Beatles and said he'd refuse if asked. I don't think Brian actually asked him, he was just Brian's preference. Brian left the decision to the Beatles otherwise there would have been a schism right at the beginning of the relationship."

THE BIG THREE : Brian Griffiths (right): guitar;
Johnny Gustafson (center): bass, vocal;
Johnny Hutchinson (left): drums, vocal.

Bill Harry in his facebook:
"Johnny was the best drummer in Liverpool. He didn't like the Beatles, he didn't like what they did to Pete Best. He paid me ten bob to design a Big Three symbol. I also painted it on his drums."

This EP is probably now the best way of recapturing their original sound. Despite the less than ideal recording conditions, this disc with its introduction by Bob Wooler is perhaps as close as one can get to hearing how this legendary three piece sounded during those few wonderful years of the early 1960s.

Bill Harry in his facebook:
"He hasn't played drums for decades, but still has his original drum kit. He once dived of a Mersey ferry to save a man who had fallen in the Mersey."
