Ever the musician, Ringo Starr still loves playing gigs and hitting the road for fresh tours.

The former Beatle kicks off a new series of concert dates with his All-Starr Band on Friday in Rama, Ont. The current leg of the tour then veers into the U.S. before returning to Canada for a date in Vancouver in July.

"It's the dream I had at 13: to play drums and play with good people — it's still unfolding," he told CBC News.

"It's what I do."

Along with participating in the host of events celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Beatles' arrival in North America this year, he's also marking the 25th anniversary of his first All-Starr Band tour. Meanwhile, the amiable drummer and singer is balancing a host of other projects as well, including a new album, several books and an art exhibit.

In the attached video, Starr talks to CBC's Jelena Adzic about still finding time to tour and how he'd like the Beatles to be remembered.

Ringo Starr Talks Legacy With ET Canada

It's not every day you get the opportunity to chat with a top-tier music legend.

Ringo Starr is currently embarking on a North American Tour with his All Starr Band and ET Canada was able to wrangle a chat with the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer. The world-famous drummer cheerfully disclosed to us what life is like being a 73-year-old superstar that's beloved for his work with the Fab Four and beyond.

"The Beatle legacy will go on forever, and I was one of them so that will go on forever. But I don't wake up in the morning thinking about 'the legacy,'" laughs Ringo. "It's not something I think about! I just keep doing what I love to do."

Casino Rama will be playing host to the kickoff of Ringo Starr's extensive North American tour. According to the megaselling sticksman, there's nothing quite like performing live.

"You know I can be all day like 'ugh,' but when we're on and I'm playing, the energy just arrives," reveals Ringo. "It's so great. I love to play."

Tune in to ET Canada tonight for our full interview with Ringo Starr and hear how the superstar selects the musicians that play in his All Starr Band.

Nearly 60 years after he began pounding on his first drum kit, Ringo Starr isn't skipping a beat.

The legendary ex-Beatle, who launches a tour with his All Starr Band on Friday, is stretching the trek with a newly announced batch of dates in October. He's also prepping a new exhibit of his artwork, starring in TV special and calling on peaceniks around the globe to help him celebrate his birthday on July 7.

Starr is touring with the same lineup he assembled in 2012, with one exception. Warren Ham is stepping in to replace Mark Rivera, who is touring with Billy Joel. The other All Starrs: Richard Page, Todd Rundgren, Steve Lukather, Gregg Rolie and Gregg Bi

On June 19, a collection of Starr's self-portraits will be unveiled at a VIP reception and exhibition at the Soho Contemporary Art Gallery in New York. Starr's art also is on display at the Hard Rock Cafe in Chicago and Ocean Gallery in Stone Harbor , N.J., as well as online at RingoStarrArt.com.ssonette.

On July 7, Starr will celebrate his 74th birthday in Los Angeles. As in past years, he encourages fans around the world to pause at noon local time to share a "peace and love" moment. He's inviting L.A. fans to gather with him at noon PT in front of the Capitol Records building.

Ringo Starr: A Lifetime of Peace and Love, a tribute concert honoring the drummer, will premiere at 8 p.m. ET July 13 on AXS TV. The special showcases performances by Joe Walsh, Ben Harper, Ben Folds, Brendan Benson, Bettye LaVette and others, plus a band featuring Don Was, Benmont Tench, Peter Frampton, Steve Lukather and Kenny Aronoff.
