CLEVELAND, Ohio — It’s the debate that put a sparkle in Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Andrew Loog Oldham’s eyes: Which band is better, the Beatles or the Rolling Stones?
Oldham, who ironically enough was inducted into the Hall of Fame alongside the Beatles manager, Brian Epstein, oversaw the early careers of Brian Jones, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts and Ian Stewart. Equally ironically, it was the Beatles who directed Oldham towards the Stones in 1963.
Oldham, savvy even at the age of 19, realized that the Beatles were perceived as nice young lads from Liverpool, so he chose to market his charges as the bad boys of rock ‘n’ roll.
Apparently, it worked. Though John, Paul, George and Ringo haven’t been a band in 40 years or so, the Stones are still out there, still touring as a group, including a Friday, June 19, stop at Cleveland Browns FirstEnergy Stadium.
Be that as it may, the debate still rages, so, we’re asking you: Who’s better? And put your reasons in the comments section below.
