He may be one of the world's most famous musicians, but Paul McCartney is also just a regular grandfather - and that is the experience he draws on for his new children's book "Hey Grandude!".
While the title is a nod to one of The Beatles' best-known songs, "Hey, Jude", it is inspired by a nickname given to McCartney, 77, by one of his eight grandchildren.
"One of them just said to me one day 'Hey grand dude'," the former Beatle told a group of schoolchildren from Jubilee Primary in Brixton at the launch in a London bookstore on Friday.
"I thought 'Oh, he said 'hey grand dude'. And I said 'Wait a minute, you normally call me grandad' and he said 'No I like the sound of gran dude'. So that is what inspired me to write the book."
Publishers Puffin describes the book as a wild and wonderful adventure with a twist of magic inspired by McCartney's own experience of being a grandfather.

Sir Paul McCartney spent the day speaking to schoolchildren ahead of the launch of a new book.
The global star and former linchpin of The Beatles chatted with youngsters from a Brixton primary school.

Sir Paul read from his children’s book Hey Grandude!, which celebrates adventures and relationships shared between grandparents and grandchildren.
The musician met with young readers at a Waterstone’s store in Piccadilly, London, and took part in a question and answer session.

A lucky fan was also able to meet the musician having won a competition to spend time with Sir Paul.

Paul's First Picture Book 'Hey Grandude!' is Out Now

Paul's First Picture Book 'Hey Grandude!' is Out Now
'Zing, Bang, Sizzle' Paul's first picture book Hey Grandude! is out now in Hardback and Audiobook!
Inspired by Paul’s own experience of being a grandude (a name his grandchildren have given him), Hey Grandude! is an action-packed picture book that introduces a magical intrepid explorer grandfather — the eponymous Grandude — and his four grandchildren - he calls them Chillers . Join them as they ride flying fish, dodge stampedes, and escape avalanches. All brought to life with funny, colourful illustrations from talented artist and rising star, Kathryn Durst.
Paul said:"It’s about a character called Grandude who represents grandfathers everywhere. He has four grandchildren and he calls them “Chillers”. They love him and they go on adventures with him and he’s kind of magical, so you’ll see that in the book. I wanted to write it for grandparents everywhere – and the kids – so it gives you something to read to the grandkids at bed time."
