GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - One of the greatest musicians and songwriters in history will play Lambeau Field in 2019.

The Green Bay Packers on Sunday teased that the long and winding road would lead Paul McCartney to the historic stadium. The Packers have announced a news conference for Tuesday, Dec. 4. We expect to learn the date and when tickets will go on sale. Stay with Action 2 News for updates.

There was speculation earlier this year that the former Beatle would be playing Green Bay. An ad on McCartney's Facebook page popped up in September, saying "GREEN BAY! Tour dates could be announced really soon!" Action 2 News went seeking answers, but no one would confirm it at the time.

McCartney is on his "Freshen Up Tour." He's been touring Europe and returns to the United States in May. He's supporting his new album "Egypt Station."

Sir Paul is playing the Kohl Center in Madison on June 6. The show is sold out. Resale tickets are going between $319 and $3,114 (first row, section one), according to Ticketmaster.



There's no Green Bay date listed on McCartney's website yet.

The last concert at Lambeau Field was Billy Joel in June 2017. An estimated 45,000 fans attended the show.

The Green Bay Packers teased a performance of the legendary Paul McCartney at Lambeau Field in 2019.

The announcement came during Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals.

The 15-second clip said "He will finally take the leap," referring to the jump players take into the end zone after scoring a touchdown. 

The appearance would be a stop on his "Freshen Up Tour."

Fans can expect an official announcement Dec. 4. Green Bay is not yet listed as an official city on the tour. The star has a performance scheduled in Madison at the Kohl Center in early June.
