Sete anos após de estrear em Porto Alegre com a sua "Up and Coming Tour", Sir Paul McCartney está de volta. O eterno Beatle se apresenta a partir das 21h desta sexta no estádio Beira-Rio - que já o recebeu em 2010 - e promete, mais uma vez, promover uma noite histórica na cidade.

Dessa vez, ele traz a "One on One", que foi lançada em 2016 nos Estados Unidos e abrange todas as fases de sua trajetória: do seu trabalho mais antigo com The Quarrymen até sua mais recente colaboração com Kanye West e Rihanna – assim como os tesouros mundiais dos Beatles, Wings e também sua carreira solo. O setlist dessa tour tem contado com 39 canções, por isso, a expectativa é que o astro de 75 anos toque por três horas aqui na Capital.

O show em Porto Alegre será a largada de uma passagem pelo Brasil que inclui uma novidade: Salvador receberá Paul McCartney pela primeira vez, no dia 20. Antes disso, ele e a banda que o acompanha tocam em São Paulo, no domingo, e em Belo Horizonte, na terça-feira.

Trânsito

A Empresa Pública de Transporte e Circulação preparou um esquema especial de trânsito para atender as 50 mil pessoas aguardadas para o show. Para a chegada ao estádio, haverá uma série de bloqueios: do canteiro central da Av. Padre Cacique x Rua Otávio Dutra, do canteiro central da Av. Padre Cacique x Rua Fernando Lúcio da Costa; do acesso da Av. Padre Cacique para a Rua Nestor Ludwig, de acordo com a avaliação da necessidade pela fiscalização que estiver no local. O bloqueio pode ser momentâneo e dependerá do fluxo de pedestres. Ainda para a chegada, haverá sinalização com cones junto ao corredor de ônibus da Av. Padre Cacique no trecho em frente ao estádio, com o intuito de diminuir a velocidade dos ônibus e será realizada a segregação da faixa da direita da Av. Padre Cacique, sentido Centro/bairro, no trecho entre a Otávio Dutra e a Fernando Lúcio da Costa.

Para a saída do show (prevista para a meia-noite), haverá Inversão do sentido do fluxo da Av. Edvaldo Pereira Paiva, ficando as duas pistas com sentido único para o Centro, no trecho compreendido entra a Rua Nestor Ludwig até a Rótula da Cuias. Um bloqueio será feito nos canteiros centrais da Rua Fernando Lúcio da Costa, evitando a intersecção dos fluxos contrários e proporcionando maior fluidez aos veículos que acessarem a via. Duas áreas serão isoladas com cones: da faixa de estacionamento da Av. Padre Cacique sentido Centro/Bairro, aproximadamente 50m a partir da Rua Fernando Lúcio da Costa e da faixa de estacionamento da Av. Edvaldo Pereira Paiva, sentido Bairro/Centro, no trecho entre a Nestor Ludwig e as proximidades do pardal.

No transporte público, haverá reforço das linhas normais de ônibus que atendem o local no horário de entrada: Radiais Zona Sul, T2, T5, 149, T2A, T7, T1, com aumento da capacidade. Na saída, a linha especial Futebol Beira-Rio será ativada, com embarque na Rua Nestor Ludwig e desembarque no Largo Glênio Peres. As linhas de lotação também serão reforçadas, na entrada e na saída do evento.

Conforme a Prefeitura, também haverá Reforço na frota de táxis com embarque e desembarque na Av. Padre Cacique, nos dois sentidos da via. O Inter também já informou como funcionará o estacionamento:

A chuvarada não vai ofuscar o tão aguardado show de Paul McCartney em Porto Alegre. Mas é claro que as redes sociais não perdoariam o aguaceiro que toma conta da capital gaúcha há quatro dias — e que corre risco de seguir inclusive durante o show na noite desta sexta-feira (13).

O Yellow Submarine, coitado, foi parar no Arroio Dilúvio e sobrou até para a famosa foto dos Beatles atravessando a rua Abbey Road, em Londres — a faixa de seguranças, no caso, sumiu sob a água.

Grammys Greatest Stories: A 60th Anniversary Special, a star-studded TV extravaganza looking back at 59 years of Grammy history, will air November 24 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CBS. The two-hour program will include appearances from Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, U2 , Elton John, Sting and Dave Grohl, among others.

The special will feature archival footage, exclusive interviews and a behind-the-scenes look at some of the award show’s most memorable moments and performances, including McCartney’s Abbey Road medley that also featured Springsteen, Joe Walsh and Grohl at the 2012 ceremony.

“As we approach this milestone in Grammy history, we are excited to give music fans a glimpse into what artists, musicians, producers, set designers, and others do to make those unforgettable Grammy Moments,” says Neil Portnow, the Recording Academy’s president and CEO.

“This special will take audiences on a new journey as they relive those extraordinary moments that can only be seen on the GRAMMYs.”

Other stars who will appear on the special include Coldplay‘s Chris Martin, Aretha Franklin, Christina Aguilera, Mary J. Blige, Celine Dion, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran and Keith Urban.

Bruce Springsteen and Paul McCartney — together again.

Springsteen and Paul McCartney, along with Aretha Franklin, Mary J. Blige, Celine Dion, Dave Grohl, Elton John, Sting, U2, Keith Urban and more will appear in "Grammys Greatest Stories: A 60th Anniversary Special" at 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, on CBS.

The special will be the Grammys “first all-encompassing retrospective packed with epic moments from the past 59 years of Grammy history,” according to CBS. It’s going to be a look behind the scenes of the last five decades of Grammy Award ceremonies, including the McCartney’s performance of the “Abbey Road” medley, which included Springsteen, Joe Walsh and Dave Grohl in 2012.

Other highlights will include a somber reflection by the music community following the death of Whitney Houston in 2012 and Franklin’s unexpected opera performance in 1998.

“Never before have we gathered all of the greatest moments of the Grammys, from a half century of award shows for one primetime special, and when you see them put together in a parade of amazing clip montages interspersed with the stories behind the performances, it’s really pretty unbelievable,” said Ken Ehrlich, executive producer of the Grammys for the past 38 years, in a statement.

Springsteen and Stevie Van Zandt joined McCartney on stage at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Friday, Sept. 15. They performed “I Saw Her Standing There” twice, during the encore of McCartney’s One on One tour show.

"I have had dogs since I was a boy and loved them all dearly, including Martha who was my companion for about 15 years and about whom I wrote the song 'Martha, My Dear.'"

Paul McCartney has joined forces with PETA to petition to the parent company of The Pet Blood Bank’s distributor, Patterson Veterinary Supply, to provide proper care for some 150 greyhounds living in squalor in dirt-floored pens. On Tuesday (Oct. 10), the former Beatle penned a letter appealing for better treatment of the animals.

"I join my friends at PETA in asking you to pay these greyhounds back, and to let them retire from the dirt-floored, barren conditions in which they are kept isolated and alone, some of them cringing at the footfall of the person coming to take their blood again and again," McCartney wrote. "They had a hard life on the racetrack, and they will die without love if left where they are. I've seen pictures of how they have suffered from nails that have grown back into their paw pads, as well as from infected gums and rotted teeth, and I'm told that some have apparently even died from a lack of water."

The Pet Blood Bank provides canine blood products for veterinary transfusions across the country. It began in 2004 initially seeking volunteers and using a bloodmobile, but that did not bring in enough blood and the company turned to retired greyhounds it houses in a kennel on a private farm outside Austin, Texas.

Following an exposé by PETA and coverage by the Washington Post last month that detail shocking conditions with photos showing the greyhounds in bad shape with overgrown nails, emaciated figures and tartar-filled teeth, The Pet Blood Bank, Inc. had promised to ensure the dogs' care, according to a PETA spokesperson, but reneged on that pledge. That prompted McCartney to write his letter to parent company Patterson Companies CEO James Wiltz.

"I have had dogs since I was a boy and loved them all dearly, including Martha who was my companion for about 15 years and about whom I wrote the song 'Martha, My Dear,'" wrote McCartney about the classic Beatles track. “I'm sure you know that dogs need affection and comfort—a bed to lie on, warmth in the winter, the opportunity to run and play, and just like you and me, they crave happiness and companionship.”

McCartney has been a longtime supporter of PETA, participating in interviews on the animal rights organization’s website and featuring in pro-vegetarian ads.

I am writing to appeal to you to step up, make good on your earlier pledge, and rescue the dogs whose blood your company has used for many years, knowing that these 150 or so dogs—who were allowed to get into appalling shape and who are now kept in a-mileless-than-ideal conditions—helped your business at a cost to their wellbeing.

I'm sure you know that dogs need affection and comfort—a bed to lie on, warmth in the winter, the opportunity to run and play, and just like you and me, they crave happiness and companionship.

Paul McCartney is on a mission: After a PETA exposé revealed 150 or so greyhounds suffering in squalor at a Texas outfit called The Pet Blood Bank, Inc., the company that distributed its blood products (Patterson Veterinary Supply, Inc.) pledged to support efforts to ensure the dogs’ care. But less than a week later, the company reneged on the pledge, prompting McCartney to send a letter on PETA’s behalf today calling on Patterson’s billion-dollar parent company to step up and help rescue the dogs.

“I have had dogs since I was a boy and loved them all dearly, including Martha who was my companion for about 15 years and about whom I wrote the song ‘Martha, My Dear,'” writes McCartney. “I join my friends at PETA in asking you to pay these greyhounds back, and to let them retire from the dirt-floored, barren conditions in which they are kept isolated and alone.”

PETA exposed that dogs at The Pet Blood Bank were denied veterinary care for severe oral infections, painful and infected wounds, an apparent broken leg, and other health issues. Most canines at the facility are solitarily confined to barren kennels, in which they display severe stress-induced behavior patterns, including pacing, spinning in circles, cowering, and even urinating on themselves in fear when approached.

Since PETA’s exposé was published online and in The Washington Post, more than 110,000 people have urged Patterson to use its resources to secure lifetime care for the dogs, and a mobile billboard has appeared outside the company’s Minnesota headquarters.

When you think about John Lennon--the singer-songwriter, co-founder of The Beatles,
peace activist--do you naturally associate him with India? Perhaps not. And yet, the
English musical legend had a deep connection with our country, an aspect of his life
that doesn't get enough attention.

On his 77th birth anniversary, we take a look at Lennon's connection with India, and
how it was a love story that you should know more about.

The Beatles and Indian spiritualism

As everyone knows, The Beatles were the most commercially successful and
influential music band of the era of rock. Formed in Liverpool in 1960, the band
had four members: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo
Starr. From pop ballads to psychedellic, rock numbers, The Beatles created them
all.

If you've noted a definite Indian element in their music, especially since 1965,
it was primarily because of George Harrison. Popularly known as "the quiet Beatle",
this English guitarist embraced Hinduism and had a keen interest in Indian spiritualism
and music. According to Radio Netherlands Worldwide (RNW), Harrison met with a
number of Indian musicians during the shoot of the Beatles' film, Help!, in 1965.

These musicians introduced Harrison to the sitar, which was already gaining popularity
through remarkable performances by Ravi Shankar, the Indian sitar maestro. Harrison
visited India, learned to play the sitar from Ravi Shankar, and incorporated the
instrument in a number of The Beatles' songs, notably Norwegian Wood and Within
You, Without You. His influence directed the other Beatles towards an exploration
of Indian culture and spiritualism.

Enter, the Maharishi

The Beatles, like most rock bands of the era, were looking for a number of ways to broaden their perspective of the world for musical inspiration. John Lennon had always been open about the band's drug use, which, they claimed, helped them create some of their record-breaking numbers. So when Harrison informed them about a lecture by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi on Transcendental Meditation, they were instantly interested.

Lennon and his friends first met the Maharishi in London, and then went on to attend the seminar in Bangor, Wales, in 1967. While they couldn't attend the full, 10-day seminar due to the sudden passing-away of their manager, Brian Epstein, they kept in touch with the Maharishi. With their rising interest in Indian spiritualism came the offer to stay at the Maharishi's ashram in Rishikesh in 1968.

Lennon and his bandmates arrived in India in February 1968, with their wives, girlfriends, assistants and a number of reporters. Their stay in the Maharishi's ashram, though not longer than two-three months, is credited to be their most productive phase. Lennon and McCartney co-created a number of their songs there, and so did Harrison. Starr actually created his first song during this stay. The band claimed to have created 48 songs in this phase!

Their life in the ashram was similar to the one these places promote. Lennon, who was accompanied by his first wife, Cynthia, indulged in communal dining, vegetarian meals, and yoga. Listening to the sound of the Ganges from the ashram's roof, and playing music, was what The Beatles did as a group on most days.

India, India

Here, Lennon also learned to play the sitar, and mastered a few techniques that he later used in his songs, Julia and Dear Prudence. As later revealed by a number of reporters like Randy Shore, Lennon spent more of his time composing music than meditating. He even created a special song dedicated to the country, and called it India, India.

While the song was never officially released, it remained hidden in Lennon's archives, and was shared with the public only recently. Listen to India, India here:

"India, India, take me to your heart/Reveal your ancient mysteries to me", the song began. It went on to describe the state of calm Lennon experienced while in Rishikesh. India, India also indicated that his marriage with Cynthia Lennon was failing fast. Most people believe that "the girl I left behind" refers to Cynthia, who had hoped that their India trip would rejuvenate the couple's commitment to each other.

Despite the creative surge, tensions between The Beatles and the Maharishi increased. The Maharishi asked Lennon to contribute part of the Beatles' profits to the ashram, which obviously gave offense. On the other hand--as the Maharishi's later disciple, Deepak Chopra has claimed--the guru was disappointed with The Beatles members because they continued doing drugs while at the ashram, which was against his principles.

Starr and McCartney had already left the ashram in March, and Lennon didn't find too many reasons to stay back after that, and rounded up his stay within the next six weeks. Soon after his return, Lennon separated from Cynthia, and married Yoko Ono in 1969, thus beginning a new chapter in his life.

Can a stay of just two-three months in India have been a lifelong source of inspiration for Lennon? Of course, it was. "I've got to follow my heart wherever it takes me/I've got to follow my heart wherever it calls to me", Lennon sang in India, India. And that's precisely what he did, with India in his heart.
