Top 10 music memorabilia sales of 2012
Michael Jackson memorabilia dominated auction sales in 2011, with six of the top ten most expensive items sold once belonging to the King of Pop. The list clearly illustrates how Jackson’s legacy has continued to grow since his death, and that fans and collectors are willing to pay record prices to own a piece of his legend.
The Top 10 list also features items from regular auction best-sellers The Beatles, with handwritten lyrics, the famous 'Yesterday' piano and John Lennon's 'Bed Peace' sign all selling at auction.The list is completed with a now-iconic dress worn by Amy Winehouse on the cover of her seminal album ‘Back to Black’, before her tragic death in July 2011.

The dress Amy Winehouse wore on the front cover of her 2006 Back to Black album sold for $67,208 at aKerry Taylor Auctions sale in November.
The British singer died in July 2011.
9. Michael Jackson wig - $72,000
A human hair wig, worn by Michael Jackson in London, UK in March 2009 when he announced his planned series of This Is It concerts in the capital, sold for $72,000 at a Julien's auction in July.
Jackson died in June 2009, just weeks before the series of 50 concerts was to get underway.
8. Michael Jackson “Scream” shirt - $72,000
The Dexter Wong-designed shirt worn by Michael Jackson in the video for his and sister Janet’s 1995 Scream single sold for $72,000 at a Julien’s auction in July.
7. John Lennon ‘Bed Peace’ placard - $155,892
The hand-drawn “Bed Peace”' placard used during Lennon and Yoko Ono's 1969 “Bed-In” at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal sold for $155,892 at a Christie’s auction in November.
It was the first time the item, consigned by an anonymous Canadian, had appeared on the market.

A red stage-worn Michael Jackson jacket from The Jacksons' Victory Tour of 1984 realised $162,000 at a Julien’s auction in October.
Michael Jackson had signed the lining “Love Michael Jackson”.
5. Michael Jackson American Music Awards glove - $196,800
A black glove featuring black Swarovski crystals, worn by Jackson at the American Music Awards in 1984, made $196,800 at a Julien’s auction in May.
Jackson won eight awards that night for his Thriller album.
4. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds lyrics - $230,000
John Lennon’s handwritten lyrics to Beatles song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds sold for $230,000 at a Profiles in History auction in May.
The sheet contains the song's third verse as well as the opening words to She's Leaving Home: "Wednesday morning at…"
The song appears on the 1967 album release Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
Some experts claim that the song is a reference to the drug LSD. Lennon always contended that it was inspired by a picture drawn by his son, Julian.
3. Paul McCartney Yesterday piano - $240,000
The piano on which McCartney wrote the Beatles composition Yesterday sold for $240,000 at an auction hosted by The Fame Bureau in April.
The piano belonged to Alma Cogan, a friend of McCartney’s.
The melody to Yesterday came to McCartney in a dream. He was so convinced he had stolen the tune that he visited Cogan for her opinion. His working lyrics for the song were “Scrambled eggs, oh my baby how I love your legs”.

An 1985 “Bad” record-shop poster, inscribed by Jackson in 1986 with the lyrics to the 1986 charity single We Are the World, which Jackson co-wrote with Lionel Richie, sold at Julien’s in May for $270,600.
1. Michael Jackson Thriller jacket - $1.8m
A red leather jacket, worn by Jackson in the video for his 1983 hit Thriller, made $1.8m at a Julien’s auction in June 2011, comfortably beating its $400,000 estimate.
The jacket, signed "love Michael Jackson" on the sleeve, is one of two used in the video. The other is owned by the Jackson estate.
It had come to auction with an estimated of $200,000-400,000
