I have found an interesting second-hand record store not far from my local area which I didn't even know existed.
It is called Audiomania. It's a bit oddly located in a semi-industrial area and, unusually, is only open two day's a week for four hours at a time! On one side of the shop there's an extensive selection of good quality vinyl (pop, rock, blues, lots of jazz and a bit of a specialty of the store - reggae). On the other side of the space they have vintage hi-fi (amps, turntables, CD players, etc.) and - wait for it - restored motor cycles....
It is the most eclectic record shop I've come across in some time.
My son and I descended on Audiomania on the weekend a couple of weeks ago. He was on the hunt for jazz vinyl, and me in search of the Beatles (or anything else Beatle-related).
I ended up with three items. An Australian copy of Paul McCartney's Red Rose Speedway; a copy of his Give My Regards to Broad Street; and Ringo Starr's Ringo the 4th.
I wanted the McCartney LP's because the Red Rose Speedway (Australian pressing) had a cover which didn't have the Braille writing on the back, and the Broad Street was a US copy on the Columbia label (in Australia this LP came out on Parlophone).
Like I said in the previous post, I seem to moving from not having much of Ringo solo on vinyl to now having quite a few of his releases all of a sudden. I didn't have this LP at all in my collection. Despite the ringwear on the cover (which you can see below), this one being both a US pressing and a promo copy, it seemed worth the A$5.00 asking price:
As you can see it has a big black and white Atlantic Records "Promotional Copy" sticker on the front containing a track-listing with composers, song publishers and running times (for use by radio stations I guess), plus a gold-embossed stamp on the upper left-hand side saying "Promotional Copy NOT FOR SALE".
You can see the rear cover above (pardon the pun). I don't know who that is sitting on his shoulders or why they are there....if you know please drop us a line. There is also a paper inner sleeve with a photo of Ringo and his co-writer of many tunes on the album Vini Poncia:
The album came out in 1977 on the Atlantic label and has a cast of top session players and guest artists of the day including David Spinozza (guitar), the great Steve Gadd on drums, Chuck Rainey (bass), Michael and Randy Brecker (horns), and Bette Midler, Melissa Manchester, Jim Gilstrap and Luther Vandross (background vocals).
So, one more Ringo Starr for the collection - and a promo copy at that.

O repertório do show ainda é segredo. Mas não devem ficar de fora clássicos como Hey Jude, Yesterday, Live and Let Die, Let It Be - enfim, as canções que a gente quer ouvir, quem sabe com um "uai" no meio.
A longa espera pelo astro
Há três anos, produtores locais tentam trazer o ex-beatle
Primeira tentativa
Fernando Abdo Mendonça, do Verdemar, servirá o músico

APRIL 27, 2013
OTTAWA — In what is probably the fastest-selling show in the history of Scotiabank Place, tickets to a July concert by Paul McCartney sold out in less than 10 minutes Friday.
The July 7 show will be the first appearance by a member of the Beatles in Ottawa history. Eager fans snapped up tickets in record time when they went on sale Friday at 10 a.m. Sales appear to have beaten the record held by Madonna. Tickets for her show in September 2012 sold out in 21 minutes, and at the time concert promoter Live Nation said it was the fastest-selling show in Scotiabank history. There were, almost immediately about 330 tickets for sale on the ticket reseller StubHub ranging in price from $250 US for two seats in section 310 to $9,999 US for two in the first row on the floor.
McCartney is also gearing up to re-release two classic projects: Wings’ 1976 live album, Wings Over America, will be re-released May 17, with bonus material, while a DVD release of the live concert film, Rockshow, which documents the Wings over the World tour, comes out June 10.

Fans can't grab McCartney tickets
BY JEFF DEDEKKER, LEADER-POST
APRIL 26, 2013
Fans were left frustrated by the ticket pre-sale Thursday morning for Paul McCartney's upcoming Regina concert.
Lance Hackewich has a theory about what caused the problems.
Hackewich, who estimates he attends 50 concerts a year, attempted to buy tickets for the Aug. 14 show at Mosaic Stadium. Like many others, he came up empty-handed.
"Not that long ago, pre-sales weren't that popular. Not everybody knew about pre-sales. Now you have radio stations sending out emails to everybody telling everybody what's going on," Hackewich said.
"The secret is now out. There were times in the past when getting tickets through pre-sales wasn't a problem. Now that the word is out, it's become quite common for lots of people to take advantage of the pre-sales."
Tickets for the concert go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Monday, but Thursday marked the first of two pre-sales for the show. Tickets were available through McCartney's website, and when the site opened for business at 10 a.m., it didn't take long for fans to realize it would be a tough morning.
While many were fortunate to experience the thrill of victory with the purchase of up to four tickets, many others were left frustrated by the experience as it appeared the volume of ticket requests overwhelmed the site's computer server.
"We were trying all sorts of little tricks we've learned over the years and nothing was working today," Hackewich said. "It would even give us tickets and then when we went to pay for them we'd get the message, 'Network error.'"
Hackewich has attended major shows at Mosaic Stadium - the Rolling Stones, AC/DC and Bon Jovi - and said getting tickets for those shows was quite painless.
"All of those other big concerts went rather smoothly for me. I got all the tickets I needed," he said.
Despite coming up empty on Thursday, he isn't deterred from taking another shot at it on Friday morning with the Live Nation presale through Ticketmaster.
"It's the luck of the draw. It really is," he said.
Live Nation did not respond to an interview request.
Tickets for Paul McCartney's Regina show were hard to come by Thursday.

Although filmed on this tour at the enormous Kingdome in Seattle, ‘Rockshow’, originally a cut down version of the concert, was not premiered until November 1980 in New York and April 1981 in London.
It was originally released on Betamax (later on laserdisc) but it’s only now that the complete full length concert is being made available fully restored from the original 35mm film and with restored & remastered sound, including a 5.1 mix for the first time.
‘Rockshow’ Theatrical Release:
Eagle Rock has partnered with distributors Specticast who are releasing the film theatrically worldwide for a ‘one night only’ event on May 15th (see here for more details: www.rockshowonscreen.com) – meaning the film will be shown in more than 500 cinemas across the world!
The theatrical release features an exclusive introduction with Paul McCartney, but there will also be an exclusive VIP premiere screening of ‘Rockshow’, with Paul in attendance and introducing the film, at BAFTA on 15 May 2013.
The film will also receive a limited cinema run from May 15th. To find your local showing click HERE!

Quebec City Confirmed For "Out There" Tour

Quebec City Confirmed For "Out There" Tour
Five years almost to the day from his historic first concert in Quebec City, Paul is back. He'll be playing the Plains of Abraham on July 23. Touched by the reception he got in 2008, in what was "a night to remember" for everyone who had the chance to be there, Paul quickly got behind the idea of bringing Quebec audiences his new production, "Out There".
"We can say that Paul McCartney was thrilled to accept our invitation. With so many surveys showing that his 2008 concert was the high point of the celebrations marking the 400 years of Quebec, what better way to mark it's fifth anniversary?" said Daniel Gélinas, General Manager of 3E event-experience-emotion, which is putting on this new show.
Paul McCartney's "Out There" tour is an all-new production featuring close to three hours of songs spanning his entire career – as a solo artist, member of Wings and, of course, The Beatles. The McCartney live experience is a once in a lifetime opportunity to share many of the greatest moments of musical history with material from the most beloved catalog in popular music.
Paul has thrown himself into 2013 with full force following a landmark year in 2012, which saw him conclude his record-breaking “On The Run” tour, release his Grammy-winning Kisses On The Bottom album, play at both the Diamond Jubilee and Olympics Opening Ceremony, headline The Concert For Sandy Relief and accept a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
An advance ticket sale reserved for those having Festival passes and Front-Stage Zone tickets for the 46th Festival d’été de Quebec will take place from May 4 to 10. All ticket holders will receive a box office access code by e-mail or by phone, on Wednesday May 1st, so they can buy their wristbands for this show.
Regular ticket sales start the following day, May 11, and continue while wristband supplies last.
Wristbands sales:
• Online : www.3e-evenement.com/outthere

Never Before Seen Beatles Photos From 1964
by Leslie Woodhead
Apr 24, 2013
Sure they’re one of the most documented bands ever but once and a while we get to see them in a new light. Documentary filmmaker Leslie Woodhead uncovered these photos he took of the Fab Four back in 1964 when they were recording in Manchester. He tells the story of the photographs in an excerpt from his new book, How the Beatles Rocked the Kremlin.
I had only recently rediscovered my rock photographs, and the show in Vladivostok would be the first time I had put them together for an exhibition. Bringing them all the way from England, nestled between the shirts and underpants in my suitcase, had made me revisit the time, almost fifty years before, when I had taken the pictures. Could it possibly have been so long ago? I could still see those afternoons in the Manchester TV studios when I was a kid with a camera. The Beatles, the Stones, Little Richard, and Jerry Lee Lewis came to record shows in the studios where I was a trainee director, finding my feet in the routines of nightly magazine programs. As the sixties began to lift off , an extraordinary parade of people who would soon become rock royalty passed through the studios to plug their latest records. The Beach Boys, Simon and Garfunkel, the Kinks, the Hollies, and countless others came and went, most of them without causing much of a stir. The Rolling Stones did upset one producer, who declared that their hair was unacceptably long for a family program and tried to have them ejected. Crisis talks ensued, hair was preserved, and the Stones did their thing.
How the Beatles Rocked the Kremlin By Leslie Woodhead 304 pages. Bloomsbury. $26.
My boyhood passion for photography had recently been rekindled by a new single-lens reflex camera, and from time to time I wandered into the studios where the visiting rock folk were performing to grab pictures. Following that first filming with the Beatles in August 1962, I had renewed the acquaintance when they came to perform “Please Please Me” in January 1963. Over the following year they returned regularly to the Manchester studio, and when they came to perform “I Should Have Known Better” in October 1964, I grabbed a single roll of film, exchanged a few words with the boys, and moved around the studio snapping a couple dozen shots as they rehearsed the song. I finished the roll of film, and then went back to working in another studio on a program about the history of cycling. Over the next few months, I looked in on other rock people with my camera and took a few more rolls of film. And then, unaccountably, I lost my rock photos.
Where the hell were they? Why didn’t I take hundreds more pictures? How could I have been so casual about having a front- row seat as the giants of 1960s rock ’n’ roll paraded past my camera? From time to time I kept looking, but after a while I reckoned that between office juggling and house moves, they must have slipped through the cracks in my life. That was how it was, after all, with making documentaries. I would be consumingly involved with a project for a few weeks or months—guerrilla war in Africa, earthquake in Peru, nomadic tribes in Ethiopia, jazz in New Orleans—and then one night the film would be broadcast, and the next morning it was gone. All those intense relationships, the war criminals, the saints, the film crews, the never- ending cycle of engaging and moving on. I took thousands of photos wherever I went, but I kept remembering the missing rock photos. Where were they? Were they any good? Might they be worth a fortune?
And then, not long ago, I had found them. I opened a drawer and there they were, shut away in a plain envelope. I peered at the shadowy images preserved on negatives—John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis. They had slumbered in my drawer over the decades, like pharaohs snoozing in their tombs. I was ecstatic. I hunted down a man who could print the negatives, a rare craftsman in an age where digital cameras had made black- and- white negatives as irrelevant as typewriters and carbon paper. In a London basement, I watched as Peter Guest—who prints Linda McCartney’s archive—coaxed life back into my old negatives. The Fab Four swam up out of the developing bath, youngsters again on the verge of everything.

From her early rock'n'roll portraits and final years with The Beatles to her touring days with Wings and raising four children with Paul, Linda McCartney captured her whole world on film.
Her shots range from spontaneous family pictures to sessions with Janis Joplin and Michael Jackson, as well as artists Willem de Kooning and Gilbert and George. Always unassuming and fresh, her work displays a warmth and feeling for the precise moment that captures the essence of any subject. Whether photographing her children, celebrities, animals, or a fleeting moment of everyday life, McCartney did so without pretension or artifice.

Paul McCartney's "Out There" tour will feature brand new, never before seen production and, as ever, hours of material from the most beloved catalog in popular music, with Paul performing songs spanning his entire career--as a solo artist, member of Wings and of course The Beatles.
The McCartney live experience is a once in a lifetime opportunity. For approximately three hours, many of the greatest moments of the last 50 years of musical history -- not to mention the soundtracks of entire lives -- are magically brought to life as only Paul can do. Last year marked 40 years since Paul's premiere tour as a solo artist and these past four decades have seen him play in a staggeringly impressive range of venues and locations, including outside the Coliseum in Rome, in Moscow's Red Square, at the White House, a free show in Mexico to over 400,000 people and even a performance beamed into outer space! Having played with his peerless band of Paul 'Wix' Wickens (keyboards), Rusty Anderson (guitar), Abe Laboriel Jr. (drums) and Brian Ray (bass/guitar) for over ten years, Paul never disappoints -- as reviews of his last trek through Canada in November 2012 will attest:
"It took close to half a century for Paul McCartney to step on a Vancouver stage for the second time in his musical career, and in the span of nearly three hours at BC Place, Sir Paul closed the gap, looped the loop and gave his fans a timeless experience... McCartney never even paused to take a break, commanding the stage with more power, presence and stamina than pop stars half his age... Flat-out amazing." -- VANCOUVER SUN
"The last time Paul McCartney graced a stage in Vancouver was August 22, 1964. The show was cut short due to fear of a riot... There were times last night at BC Place when the 70 year-old could make you believe the clock was running backwards... The catalogue of tunes is positively staggering... McCartney really loves performing them too. Paul McCartney still does his legacy justice. Few of his living peers can make any similar claim. This was a bucket list gig and turned out to be one for the memory books as well. Thanks for that." -- VANCOUVER PROVINCE
"This was young McCartney again. And, the new one. It was vintage and voyage. There was that same boyish smile you see in early photos from their time in Liverpool, or the psychedelic German clubs, or their first appearance at Shea Stadium. There was a floppy-haired rocker who seemed very well aware of who he was and where he'd been, but was also transfixed on enjoying the moment. For the audience, you got to cross another one off your bucket list. Hearing 'Hey Jude' live? How can that not be on there? Is there another song anywhere in the universe that begs the same effect, or comes with the same aura, when its played to people who've paid to see and hear it? He played for three hours. Three hours. Paul, meanwhile, has more energy than Bruno Mars jumping in front of a train for you. On Sunday night, Paul McCartney had his way with 60,000 Canadians. They're all now on the other side of the bed, enjoying a cigarette." -- HUFFINGTON POST CANADA
"The hand-painted sign draped over the BC Place railings before the show read 'Paul Thanks For The Music.' It summed up the mood perfectly. This was stadium rock built on warmth, not swagger. It was a night carried on a wave of love and admiration for Paul McCartney the artist and man, an incredible talent who has somehow remained down-to-earth despite the endless and wholly deserved accolades... After a spectacular journey through the past from one of the very greatest of the greats, Paul McCartney left the stage basking in the love of an entire stadium. No one could deserve it more." -- CTV
"It was a long and winding road back to the yesterdays that seemed so far away — or mangle your own favourite line from your own favourite Beatles song to describe Paul McCartney’s show. He must’ve played them all at Rexall Place on Wednesday night... an epic concert that stretched almost three hours through almost 40 songs... Sir Paul should get an honorary Order of Canada just for that... Just when you think there was a climax would come an even higher highlight, then another, one encore, then another. What a marathon. You may think that McCartney would draw mainly Baby Boomers, and yes, there were certainly a lot of them at the show, screaming their faces off and gasping with the pleasure of recognition of one hit after another. But Paul’s appeal cuts a huge swath through the population. There were Gen-X fans brandishing home-made signs. There was even a gaggle of screaming young girls in the front, stricken with Beatlemania 50 years later. It’s a chronic, multi-generational epidemic, this Beatlemania – thanks to Paul McCartney still going as strong as ever." -- EDMONTON SUN
"May I be a human — and not a supposedly unbiased or clinical reviewer — for a moment? OhmygoshohmygoshPaulMcCartneyisonstage! Hesrightinfrontofme! andthousandsoffans! OneoftheBeatlesisfinallyinEdmonton! Wegettowitnessrocknrollhistoryintheflesh! IhopeheplaysHeyJudeorYesterday! And breathe. C’mon, who wasn’t thinking the same silly thoughts during Wednesday’s sold-out show, the first of two at Rexall Place? As the 70-year-old elder statesmen casually strolled onstage, 14,500 fans erupted in cheers — an explosion 50 years in the making… and McCartney more than made up for avoiding us all these years, gracefully attacking us with all his charm and greatest hits, making us feel like giddy 15-year-olds watching the Fab Four on The Ed Sullivan Show in the ’60s. Or giggly five-year-olds, watching the Beatles battle the Blue Meanies in Yellow Submarine for the first time in the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s or ’00s.... His entire show was epic... McCartney’s visit caps off a year stacked with classic-rock concerts... Do I even need to tell you Sir Paul’s three-hour show topped them all?" -- CALGARY HERALD & EDMONTON JOURNAL
Paul is throwing himself into 2013 with full force following yet another landmark year in 2012, which saw him conclude his record-breaking "On The Run" tour, release his Grammy-winning Kisses On The Bottom album, accept a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, play at both the Diamond Jubilee and Olympics Opening Ceremony, be named MusiCares Person of the Year, and headline 12-12-12 The Concert For Sandy Relief -- to highlight just a few memorable moments. With the "Out There'" tour and a new studio album in the works, it looks like 2013 will show no signs of Paul slowing down.
The "Out There" tour will see Paul and his band travel the world throughout the year, visiting both places of historical significance to Paul and new spots for the very first time. Further announcements and dates will be added in the coming weeks. Stay tuned to PaulMcCartney.com for official news and updates.

Now, James McCartney is set to release his first full-length album, Me, May 21st on ECR Music Group. This is me.'"
