Dutch Beatles fans lose Nagra tapes claim, fail to win compensation
DutchNews.nl
March 30, 2016
Two Dutch Beatles fans involved in a legal wrangle over their claim to own 504 tapes made during a Beatles recording session in 1969, have lost their appeal court case.
Judges in The Hague ruled on Tuesday that the Dutch state was not wrong in seizing the Nagra tapes from the men in 2003 and returning them to Apple Records. They rejected the men’s claim for compensation and said they had not proved they were the legitimate owners.
Stan Snelleman and Jos Remmerwaal had claimed recordings were illegally taken from them by Dutch and British police 12 years ago and should be returned. They also wanted €700,000 in damages from the Dutch state in compensation for wrongful arrest.
The tapes feature members of the Beatles composing and in conversation during the Get Back sessions, which became the basis for the film Let it Be. The recordings were made on Nagra tape recorders and are thought to be linked to a large number of bootlegs.
Snelleman and Remmerwaal say they bought the tapes from former Apple Records worker Nigel Oliver for the equivalent of €36,000 in 1992 after being outbid by Apple for other tapes at a memorabilia auction.
Twelve years later they were caught in a police sting when Oliver got in touch again and claimed to have a serious buyer to take the tapes off their hands. In January 2003, Snelleman and Remmerswaal were arrested and charged with money laundering and fencing stolen property. The case against them was formally dropped in 2007.
Intercontinental hunt
According to Rolling Stone magazine at the time, ‘the arrests in Holland and London climaxed a year-round intercontinental hunt for the tapes, which have been missing since the early 1970s’. The two Dutchmen deny they were in possession of stolen property and describe the charges of money laundering and fencing as ‘extremely curious’.
In addition, they want to know why Apple Records never reported the theft in the first place. ‘Apple wanted the tapes back and theft has nothing to do with it,’ Snelleman told the Volkskrant last year. ‘We are the victims in all this and we want the tapes back. They belong to us.’

You Gave Me The Answer - Debbie
from the US Asks…
Around this time of year we usually find ourselves in the middle of making a series of
announcements about Paul’s touring plans. This year is no different and he has already
confirmed dates in the United States, Canada, Germany, France, Spain, Czech
Republic, The Netherlands and Belgium. Phew. Eight different countries… and we’re
not even in April yet!

confirmed dates in the United States, Canada, Germany, France, Spain, Czech
Republic, The Netherlands and Belgium. Phew. Eight different countries… and we’re
not even in April yet!
We’ve been lucky enough to watch Paul play from the side of the stage in a few countries,
including to 50,000 fans in Tokyo. Having witnessed something like that, you can see
exactly why Paul loves playing live. We’re always happy when we can manage to gather
together a few friends for a party. Now, imagine being able to gather together 50,000
friends for a party and for them to want to sing along to your songs. And then to do that
several nights in a row. Wow!

"What is your favourite part of touring?"

"What is your favourite part of touring?"
We spoke with Paul as he was starting rehearsals for his new tour. He responded,
“Thank you for your question, Debbie. The things I like about touring are firstly, coming
into contact with our audience, which often seems like a family reunion. Secondly, just
getting the chance to fire up our instruments and play them!”

Paul’s instruments are being “fired up” as we write, and everyone on the crew is super
excited about getting back out therefor a new year of one on ones!
Will you be seeing Paul on any of his tour dates this year? Let us know in the comments

Paul Mccartney Posts Mysterious Five-Second Clip

Paul McCartney just posted a five-second audio clip on Twitter and Facebook. And we’re not gonna lie to you. We have no clue what’s going on here. We have some guesses, all of which are probably wrong. We can also just throw some random things out there, which would certainly be even more wrong.
Here, take a listen for yourself and see if you can figure out what’s going on.
Baffling, no? We slowed it down. We played it backward. And we’ve come up empty all around. We simply have no idea what’s going on here. Frankly, it sounds like that time we accidentally dropped a sandwich on the record player when we were playing an Elton John album. But with McCartney. And less mayonnaise.
That’s almost definitely McCartney we hear speeding by. But we can’t pick out any of his old songs here. Or much of anything, for that matter. Is this his way of announcing a new album? Possibly. Is there another batch of remasters coming in his reissue series? Doubtful. Those usually arrive in the fall. Is it somehow promoting his upcoming tour? Maybe, but that sure is a messed-up way to promote a tour.
Maybe it’s just an early McCartney April Fools joke. He always seemed like the goofiest Beatle, so we wouldn’t put it past him. Or maybe this is just his strategy to get back the rights to all of his band’s old songs that his former friend bought out from under him in the ’80s. It couldn’t have anything to do with his alleged role in the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie, could it?
Again, we have no clue what’s going on here. Feel free to let us know what you think. Your guess is as good as ours at this point.

Film that claims new details of John Lennon's death to hit film festival circuit
The events on the night John Lennon was killed, seen through the eyes of those who lived it. The great men and women of NYC who did all they could to save a life, some without even knowing it was John Lennon himself. Based on a true story.

Film that claims new details of John Lennon's death to hit film festival circuit

Beatles Examiner
March 28, 2016
“The Lennon Report,” a film about the events on the night John Lennon was killed, will be featured in three U.S. film festivals that begin in April, a film spokesman told Beatles Examiner. The movie will be featured in two showings at the upcoming Beverly Hills Film Festival on April 6 and April 9. It will then move to the East Coast for the Boston International Film Festival, then go back to the West Coast the following week for the Newport Beach Film Festival in California.

The film, directed by Jeremy Profe and starring Richard Kind, Evan Jonigkeit, Stef Dawson, David Zays and Devin Ratray, looks at the situation faced by medical personnel who had to attend to the mortally wounded John Lennon the night he was shot, including the fact some didn't know it was Lennon who was their patient. It also looks at how the hospital had tried to keep the story quiet.
The spokesman said that when the film's director and producers were doing research for the movie, they discovered what they said were serious inconsistencies in the reporting of the story, including who the actual doctor was that performed surgery on Lennon. They say two different doctors had claimed to have performed surgery on him, though they say neither did. The research resulted in major changes to the script and they say the film includes the conflicting stories of doctors and nurses on duty that night. Some of those medical personnel have been doing interviews for the film and were featured in a report by Fox News media reporter Howard Kurtz that also included a response by Yoko Ono.
The Beverly Hills Film Festival screenings will be at 5:45 p.m. April 6 and 9 p.m. April 9 at TCL Chinese 6 Theatres at 6925 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles. The Boston showing will be at 3 p.m. April 16 in the Bright Family Room of the Paramount Center at 559 Washington Street. The Newport Festival runs from April 21 to April 28.

Unused George Harrison album photos for sale in Beatles auction wrap-up
Steve Marinucci
Beatles Examiner
March 25, 2016
The final items of Beatles items left from Omega Auctions' “Beatles Collection” auction are be sold Sunday, the auction house said Friday. While most of the items in the follow-up sale have low value estimates, there are a couple of exceptions
Lot 207 features the original artwork mock up for George Harrison's “Extra Texture” album. According to the auction house, it was created by Stewart Beckett of Comprehensive Art Services, who was commissioned by Harrison to produce it in 1974. The black artwork folder features the planned dimensions of the sleeve and contact sheet photographs of Harrison, including several that were not used. You can see photos of some of the items in the slide show. The folder includes a signed letter of provenance and a copy of the LP. The value is estimated at between £3,000 to £5,000 ($4,241 to $7,067 USD, 1,898 to 6,330 Euros).
Also being sold is an original 1959 Hofner Club 40 guitar that is said to be identical to the one bought by John Lennon in 1959 and later used by Paul McCartney. The guitar is described as in good condition, though missing its scratch plate. Estimated value is £1,500 to £2,000 ($2,120 to $2,827 USD, 1,899 to 2,531 Euros).
The item in the original sale that got the most attention was a rare Beatles Decca sessions acetate of “Hello Little Girl” and “'Til There Was You” that sold on March 22 for £77,550 or for roughly $110,223 USD.
Bidding for the remaining Beatles Collection items will be through SundThe Saleroomay at The Saleroom website. The timed online auction ends at 19:00 BST (or 2 p.m. EDT/11 a.m. PDT) March 27.
