Ted McDermott's video of a duet with his son became a viral sensation

An Alzheimer's sufferer has landed a record deal after a video of a duet with his son went viral.

Ted McDermott made headlines in August after the video was uploaded by his son Simon and racked up 40m views.

Now the 80-year-old is following in the Beatles footsteps after he signed a record deal with Decca Records and recorded his first single at the infamous Abbey Road Studios.

The new single - You Make Me Feel So Young, features the B-side Quando Quando, the song that Ted and Simon, from Blackburn, sang in the viral video.

Simon discovered that singing in the car helped his dad - who is also known as The Songaminute man for his remarkable memory of classic tunes.

He posted the video to raise cash and awareness for the Alzheimer's Societ y and has currently raised over £120,000.

Proceeds from the new single, which is available for pre-order on iTunes will be split by the Alzheimer's Society and the McDermotts.

The single was recorded in London with the Guy Barker Big Band and mixed and mastered at Abbey Road Studios.

Ted's talent came as no surprise to his family, as he's been singing for most of his life as a Butlin's Redcoat and in clubs around the country.

McDermott has difficulty recognising his own son after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2013, but he can remember the words to several songs.

His son said: "This is a dream come true not only for dad, but for the entire family. There have been some really tough days in the last few years - especially for mum.

"We threw an 80th birthday party last month and thought that would be his last time singing solo for people, so it's amazing to think he now has a single coming out.

"And it's great to help the Alzheimer's Society who provide so much help and support to other families going through the same things as us."

A Decca A&R executive invited Ted to set up a recording session after coming across his voice online.

Decca executive producer Alexander Van Ingen said: "Teddy's voice is truly remarkable for any singer, let alone one 80 years of age.

"It's a captivating sound, and full of character and experience; in it you can hear the worldly understanding of a lifetime."
