The Cavern Club Beatles
The celebrations for the 50th anniversary of Ringo joining the Beatles continued in Liverpool on Sunday, with a special performance by the Cavern Club Beatles celebrating Ringo's first official appearance in the Cavern Club with The Beatles.

Steve Finnegan as 'Ringo'
The Cavern Club Beatles, the Cavern's resident Beatles tribute band, performed two sets of Beatles classics to an enthusiastic and appreciative audience.

Jimmy Coburn as 'John'

A group of fans, led by Alli Devine, recreated the events from 50 years ago by shouting "We want Pete!" as the Cavern Club Beatles took the stage -- much to the amusement of the band!

However, as happened 50 years ago, the group were quickly won over and soon cries of "We love Ringo" echoed round the room.

'John' seems happy with the new drummer
Jimmy Coburn (John), Tony Coburn (Paul), Paul Jones (George), Steve Finnegan (Ringo) and keyboard player, Paul Laverick performed songs from the very earliest days of Beatles history (yes, I do mean Twenty Flight Rock) to Get Back.

If 'John' had asked at the end of that song if they had passed the audition (with their new drummer), the answer from the audience in the Cavern Live Lounge would have been a resounding "YES"!

Tony Coburn as 'Paul'
This weekend is a truly special one in the history of the Beatles.  50 years ago Ringo made his debut as a Beatle at Hulme Hall and in the Cavern, putting the final magical touch to a band that would set out from Mathew Street and conquer the world.

Paul Jones as 'George'

50 years after those historic gigs, there is no doubt that the Cavern Club did the Beatles proud.  Cavern City Tours hosted two celebrations that were perfect in tone, style and respect for the four lads from Liverpool who shook the world.  It has been a privilege to attend both of them, and the British Beatles Fan Club would like to thank the Cavern for preserving and commemorating the Beatles' history and legacy.

Of course we all love Ringo!

But, oh, it's not over yet!  On Wednesday August 22 the Cavern Club will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the famous Granada TV footage, the only footage that exists of the Beatles in the Cavern, with a special show from 12 noon And once again the British Beatles Fan Club will be there!  So 'watch this space' for further news and reviews of this very special anniversary year.
