Artists unite to record a 'Love Song to the Earth'
New single, recorded to inspire action on climate change, features performances by Paul McCartney, Jon Bon Jovi, Sheryl Crow, Colbie Caillat and many more.

With only a few months until world leaders gather in Paris to draft and sign meaningful legislation to fight climate change, a handful of music legends and celebrities have come together to record a new single aimed at building awareness and support.

The piece, called "Love Song to the Earth," is collaborative effort from Paul McCartney, Jon Bon Jovi, Sheryl Crow, Fergie, Colbie Caillat, Natasha Bedingfield, Leona Lewis, Sean Paul, Johnny Rzeznik, Krewella, Angelique Kidjo (a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador), Kelsea Ballerini, Nicole Scherzinger, Christina Grimmie, Victoria Justice and Q’Orianka Kilcher.

“When the U.N. asked me to write a song about climate change, I felt honored and inspired," singer/songwriter Toby Gad shared in a statement. "So, my friends and I wrote ‘Love Song To The Earth,’ focusing on a positive message about how precious our only planet is."

While the single is not slated for release until Sept. 4 on iTunes (with a global release on Sept. 11), I was able to track down a preview of what we can expect. Last year, at the 2014 Social Good Summit, singer and songwriter Natasha Bedingfield previewed the song with piano backing.

It's a beautiful tune, and one that's likely to stand out as one of the best in what's a long line of eco-themed music.




In addition to the single, executive director Jerry Cope also created a lyric video featuring "breathtaking film from around the world by award-winning cinematographer Louie Schwartzberg," as well as scientists, celebrities, and people all around the world holding up signs reading “Keep it Safe,” "It’s Our World” and “Love Song to the Earth.”

You'll see some familiar names including comedian Lewis Black, explorer Sylvia Earle, environmentalist Bill McKibben, Rolling Stones keyboardist and MNN cofounder Chuck Leavell, and U.N. Messenger of Peace Jane Goodall.


 

All of the proceeds raised from "Love Song to the Earth" will benefit Friends of the Earth U.S.of the Earth U.S. and the United Nations Foundation.
