There have been many remarkable responses to the attacks in Paris last week that left 17 people dead, from the national anthem being sung in the French parliament for the first time in 100 years, to the candlelit vigils held around the world in solidarity with the fallen.
However, perhaps the most uplifting is this crowd at a Unity rally in the French capital on Sunday singing John Lennon’s "Imagine" (above). The music was played from a window above the streets, with the crowd spontaneously joining in. After the famed final line, “I hope someday you'll join us, and the world will live as one,” the throng burst into applause.
Here's the original, followed by the lyrics from the 1971 hit.
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace
You may say that I'm a dreamer,
but I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world
You may say that I'm a dreamer,
but I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will live as one
