Liverpool’s Neptune Theatre, formerly Crane’s Music Hall in Hanover Street has been revolutionised as the new Epstein Theatre, in honour of Brian Epstein, the Beatles first manager.
And last night entrepreneur David Pichilingi unveiled a new season of attractions in the £1m refurbished building, that has restored this well-loved little theatre to its former art déco glory.
He launched a full programme with an eclectic mix of light music, plays, comedy, and burlesque.
Amongst the treats in store is the world premiere of Epstein the Play, a brand new production about one of Liverpool’s favourite sons and Beatles manager. The
premiere occurs in year that celebrates 50 years since the band first came together.
The theatre will also play host to the Mersey Beatles, Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra’s Ensemble 10/10, Laughterhouse Comedy, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Irish band Dervish with Cathy Jordan, as well as burlesque and variety in The Martini Lounge show. And, of course, a winter pantomime - Cinderella - featuring Liverpool’s own Sonia, Brookside’s Philip Olivier and Big Brother’s Nikki Grahame.
Tonight Sound City is teaming up with the Liverpool Food and Drink Festival wrap party – entrance £15, and on Thursday a new play by Pauline Fleming, Dirty Dating, looks at the hilarious and dubious side of speed dating – tickets £18/£20.
Also on offer at the Epstein is Brian’s Bar that will serve light refreshments from 2pm – 11pm every day and will also have its own programme of events with exhibitions, live music and poetry evenings all in the planning.
There will also an exclusive members' only club, The 11 O’Clock Club, where the city’s creative industries can come together from 11pm until 3am creating a constant hive of activity at the Hanover Street venue.
Said Dave Pichilingi, CEO of Sound City lessee of the theatre: “Epstein is now fully open for business and we are delighted to be unveiling our Autumn and Winter programme. Our aim is that Brian's Bar becomes the destination of choice for all the creative and artistic community from the region. It features its own stage and performance area where artists can test out their new art and ideas in front of a receptive audience. Also part of the Epstein offer is the late night '11 o Clock Club'. This is Liverpool's first members club for the creative and music community from the city.”
