The Beatles legend revealed the news in a Q+A with Jarvis Cocker
Paul McCartney has given last-minute notice of a secret hometown show in Liverpool tomorrow (July 26)
The Beatles legend was speaking to Jarvis Cocker during a Q+A at Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, the arts university he founded in 1996. Their audience was made up of approximately 450 students, but was live-streamed in full on Facebook.
The two mostly discussed McCartney’s forthcoming solo record Egypt Station, released on September 7. As well as tomorrow’s live show (exact location still unknown), they also discussed Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West and Christine and the Queens.
Meanwhile, reminiscing about The Beatles’ earliest days, he said: “[We] had no idea what you did in a recording studio. Between 10 and 10:30 we got ready, tuned up and then at 10:30, the producer would come in and you’d start the session. And from there, you had one and half hours to finish that song completely. We never thought it was a pressure because we didn’t know anything else.”
McCartney’s arena shows planned for this year will also be tricky to attend. Earlier this month fans were left fuming after tickets for the three UK dates of the Egypt Station tour sold out within seconds.
Despite waiting patiently for the tickets to go on sale, they reportedly found that none were unavailable as soon as they accessed the purchase page.
Posting on Twitter, one fan raged: “Been waiting since 9.30 to get @PaulMcCartney tickets as soon as it turned 10am all tickets had gone.”
Earlier this week the Beatles singer was spotted crossing the Abbey Road zebra crossing in homage to the iconic cover of the band’s 1969 LP.
Meanwhile, it was recently hinted that Macca could headline Glastonbury next year. Organiser Emily Eavis said that he is one of their most-desired prospective bookings.
Asked by BBC Radio 2’s Jo Whiley about the prospect, she responded: “Oh we always want him – he’s top of our list. We’ll have to see.”
