(In addition to the GRAMMY Awards, The Recording Academy presents Special Merit Awards recognizing contributions of significance to the recording field, including the Lifetime Achievement Award, Trustees Award and Technical GRAMMY Award.)
He never wanted to be the star of anything. But, that's the place fate left him. He thought he was best as a team player. But we all know there was just too much great music in him to be contained by modesty.
When the Beatles ended all he had held inside came flowing out, manifesting itself in the 1970 album All Things Must Pass — a landmark LP that is still stunning by the quality of the songs and its complete originality. Like it or not, he was now the frontman of the band and more and more great music would flow from him the rest of his life.

It would take volumes to even list his musical achievements and I'm not going to try. His love of Indian music also produced volumes of lovely music, as well as creating a lasting influence on popular music. George truly was the peace and love guy. It wasn't a fad for him. He walked the walk. He dropped some beautiful wisdom on us without preaching, and always keeping a sense of humor, he was forever mindful that we are all so, so human.
It's my guess that he's the only artist on tonight's program who actually changed the world.
Hare Krishna.

A little toe-tapping just doesn't quite cut it sometimes.
And Paul McCartney got swept up in a groove on Sunday while part of the audience at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards.
The 72-year-old rocker couldn't help himself and jumped out of his seat to swing and clap to ELO and Ed Sheeran's performance of Evil Woman.
Rocking out: Paul McCartney got out of his seat to dance when ELO performed at the Grammy Awards on Sunday
While not everybody in the audience could appreciate the seventies Brit rock band - Paul was clearly a big fan and happily sang along - completely obvious to the camera's gaze.
It took him a few moments before he noticed his lonesome dance was being watched and awkwardly gestured with his hands before sheepishly sitting back down.
But the crooner was having such a good time he had a little giggle as he sat back alongside his wife Nancy Shevell.
Busted!: The legendary crooner finally noticed he was on camera
Embarrassed: The 72-year-old stopped dancing and moved out of the way of the camera's focus
Paul - an 18-time Grammy Award winner himself - later jumped on stage to perform with Rihanna and Kanye West on her track FourFiveSeconds.
Beyonce, Sam Smith and Pharrell are the Grammy leaders with six nominations apiece.
'Throughout the years, the Grammy Awards has paired musical icons with new, upcoming artists to give fans remarkable performances that can only be seen on our stage,' Recording Academy President and CEO Neil Portnow said in a statement.
'This year is no different and, once again, promises to bring together unique musical worlds in innovative ways that blend genres and create new artistic boundaries.'
Having a blast: The former Beatles star had a good giggle when eventually sat back down
Taking the spotlight: Paul later jumped on stage to perform with Rihanna and Kanye West to perform their collaborative track FourFiveSeconds
Meanwhile the Beatles legend is set to collaborate with Lady Gaga.
On Tuesday the Just Dance hit maker shared a group shot of herself, Paul and some musicians as she captioned: 'Had a beautiful session with Sir Paul McCartney and friends.'
'Working on one of his many secret projects! Killer musicians, vibe, and lots of laughs,' she added.
Crooning: Rihanna lead the vocals while the rocker strummed on his guitar

The Grammys is music's night of nights so it can come as no surprise that the hottest in the industry hit the awards stage.
What did come as a shock on Sunday night was the sheer number and the blend of iconic talents and new school acts.
Nowhere was that more obvious than the highly anticipated performance by Rihanna, Kanye West and Paul McCartney.
The new order: Sunday night's Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, California, saw a plethora of performances featuring old and new stars like Rihanna, Kanye West and Paul McCartney
Not taking the Staples Center stage till almost the end of the show, the trio had the crowd screaming in their seats during their scaled back rendition of new hit FourFiveSeconds.
The group ditched the production values which many had expected, performing instead against a white screen in silhouette, before it was pulled up for a simple grey fabric covered stage.
Allowing the focus to be on them and not theatrics, there is no doubt it left a few people underwhelmed, however, it certainly impressed the musical crowd.
Rihanna was undoubtedly the star, giving the track her all in an oversized man's suit which matched Kanye and Paul's.
