Tennis legend Roger Federer has set off a huge buzz online after he recently lent his voice to a classic Beatles song.

Federer, who is the Brand Ambassador of the Swiss telecommunication company Sunrise, sang Beatles’ ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’ as part of a commercial for the brand.

The 39-year-old was seen crooning and shaking a leg with other actors for the ad, which promotes, “The more, the better”, showing him starting alone and as he moves ahead people join him and sing along with him.

Although fans are impressed with what many dubbed as an effortless performance, the 20-time Grand Slam champion said it was challenging.

Talking to 20 Minuten, a Swiss newspaper after the commercial was released, he said: “I really had to overcome myself, but it made it a lot easier to sing along in a group because I knew that my voice wouldn’t be heard that much next to the many super voices.”

“Even though I’ve done so many interviews, it’s always weird to hear my own voice. I was told it didn’t have to sound perfect, which of course helped a lot,” the tennis star added.

 

 

 However, it’s not the first time he was heard singing. In 2017, Federer, Grigor Dimitrov, and Tommy Haas came together to sing a 80s classic ‘Hard to say I’m sorry’ during the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.

Dire Straits’ Mark Knopfler Reveals A Little-Known Fact About Paul McCartney And The Beatles Song ‘I Will’

In an interview with SiriusXM, Dire Straits‘ guitarist and singer Mark Knopfler talked about the iconic song, ‘I Will,’ from The Beatles album and claimed Paul McCartney did most of the work while recording that song.

The Beatles released their ninth studio album ‘The Beatles,’ also known as the ‘White Album,’ on November 22, 1968. The band broke up only a year after the album’s release due to the ongoing conflicts between the band members and their personal relationships.

Recently, Dire Straits’ frontman Mark Knopfler joined a conversation on SiriusXM and shared his opinions on The Beatles song ‘I Will.’ The song was written by Paul McCartney and featured him both on lead vocal and guitar. The lead guitarist of the band, George Harrison didn’t join the recording sessions.

During the interview, Mark Knopfler confirms the fact that Paul McCartney was actually the one who put most of the work on ‘I Will.’ Mike added there was almost no contribution by George Harrison on the famous Beatles song.

Here’s what Mike Knopfler asserted about Paul McCartney’s work on ‘I Will’:

“‘I Will’ by The Beatles from the ‘White Album’ (1968). There is something in there that seems to me to be pure. The Beatles were splitting apart about that time. It only sounds to me as though Paul put most of the work in on that one. And I don’t believe there is any George on there at all.”

“There is even a little guitar break in there that reminds me of something by Buddy Holly. I’m not sure what. And of course, Paul was a big Buddy Holly fan that I’m sure.”

Two Beatle children - Stella McCartney and Zak Starkey - celebrate their birthdays on 13 September. But who was the first Beatle to have a child?

Heather McCartney (born 31 December 1962)

Technically, Heather is the eldest Beatle child by four months, but Paul is not her biological father: she was born to Joseph See Jr and Linda Eastman in 1962, but her parents divorced after two years of marriage. McCartney adopted Heather after he married her mother in March 1969.

John Lennon married Cynthia Powell on 23 August 1962, after discovering she was pregnant with their first child. When Lennon started a relationship with the Japanese artist Yoko Ono in 1968, the couple divorced. Julian Lennon was the first Beatle baby and went on to become a musician in his own right in the 1980s. His singles Too Late For Goodbyes and Saltwater both made Number 6 in the UK charts.

Yoko Ono's daughter with her first husband Tony Cox was immortalised in the song Don't Worry Kyoko (Mummy's Only Looking For Her Hand In The Snow) and became John Lennon's step-daughter in 1969. When Cox and Ono divorced, Kyoko was taken by her father to live in a religious commune, but has seen been reconciled with her mother. Kyoko is now a teacher.

Zak Starkey (born 13 September 1965)

Ringo Starr (formerly Richard Starkey) married Maureen Cox in February 1965 and their first son was born that September. Zak's father was Keith Moon and, as fate would have it, young Starkey has stood in for the late drummer in the current line-up of The Who. Ringo was not only the first Beatle to become a grandfather, he was the first of the Fab Four to become a great-grandfather when Zak's daughter Tatia gave birth to Stone Zakomo Low in August 2016.

Ringo and Maureen's second son was born in the psychedelic summer of 1967. In fact, five days after Jason was born, Ringo and the other Beatles met the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi for the first time and travelled to his summer school in Wales to study Transcendental Meditation that weekend. Jason Starkey has three children of his own.

When Paul McCartney joined his bandmates on 8 August 1969 to take the photo that would form the photo of The Beatles' album Abbey Road, he was about to become a father for the first time. Mary Anna McCartney was born on 28 August and was the first child of Paul and Linda. Named after Paul's mother, who died in the Beatle's teenage years, Mary has since gone on to become a photographer like her mother.

Ringo's only daughter was born after the Beatles officially disbanded. Lee has been a fashion designer in her time and together with former Kasabian and Beady Eye guitarist Jay Mahler they had triplets: two boys Smokey and Jakamo, and one girl, Ruby Tiger, born in 2009. Lee has thankfully survived two brain tumours: once in 1995 at the age of 24 and the second in 2001.

Stella McCartney (born 13 September 1971)

Stella was Paul and Linda's second daughter has gone on to have a hugely successful career as a fashion designer. Like her parents, Stella is a strict vegetarian and animal rights campaigner and doesn't use animal products in her designs. Paul named his post-Beatles band Wings after Stella's difficult birth, during which her parents prayed that she would be delivered "on the wings of an angel'. She shares the same birthday as Ringo's son Zak, and her brother James's birthday is the day before hers!

Sean Lennon (born 9 October 1975)

Yoko Ono tried to have a child with John Lennon for many years, but they were eventually successful six years after they married when Sean Taro Ono Lennon was born in 1975, on his father's 35th birthday. Like his half-brother Julian, Sean has also become a musician, performing solo and with the band Cibo Matto.

James McCartney (born 12 September 1977)

Paul McCartney's only son is named after his dad (and James Paul McCartney was named after his own father, Jim). He's the only McCartney to have taken after his father and pursued a career in music, issuing two albums: Me in 2013 and The Blackberry Train in 2016. He's also appeared on a couple of his dad's records, including 1997's Flaming Pie and 2001's Driving Rain.

George Harrison didn't have any children with his first wife Patti Boyd, but had one son with his second wife, Olivia Arias. Dhani was born in August 1978 - and a month later, George and Olivia married in Henley-on-Thames. The younger Harrison joined his father for the former Beatle's final album before his death, Brainwashed, and has since forged a career in music himself. He was worked in two bands, Thenewno2 and Fistful Of Mercy, but issued his first solo album, In Parallel, in 2017.

The youngest of this generation of Beatles children was Beatrice McCartney, who was born to Paul and his second wife Heather Mills in 2003. She was named after Heather Mills’ mother Beatrice and Paul McCartney’s aunt Milly. McCartney and Mills separated in 2006 after just four years of marriage and divorced two years later.

The Scouse rocker has revealed how he came to be in the supergroup, but missed out on a performance with The Beatles legend in 2018.

Miles Kane says it's "typical" that he missed out on the performance of a lifetime with Paul McCartney.

The Scouse rocker is part of the Jaded Hearts Club Band -whose cover of Love's Gone Bad is our Radio X Record Of The Week - and he spoke to Radio X about missing out on a chance to be on stage with The Beatles legend in 2018.

The supergroup - which includes members such as Muse's Matt Bellamy, Blur's Graham Coxon and Jet's Nic Cester- often have differing line-ups depending on their location, which is why Miles Kane missed the chance to perform Helter Skelter with the member of The Fab Four.

Quizzed if he played with Macca on stage, he told Radio X's George Godfrey: "That was the one I didn't do, unfortunately. The others did. All the lads did. They played [his daughter] Stella McCartney's party or something and Paul McCartney jumped up on stage with them, which looked like a lot of fun..."

When George Godfrey mused it was quite the performance to miss out on, Kane joked: "Yeah, typical innit mate? Yeah, Typical".

Kane also talked about how the band first came about and his hopes for performing for them all again one day.

"Well it all started about three years ago when I was living in LA. One of the lads, Jamie, it was his 40th birthday and I think initially he was thinking of getting a Beatles covers band to play his party in this bar and in the end he was like, 'hang on, all my mates are musicians".

He added: "It started off as some fun and now it's become... well, not serious, but it's own little world of whatever it is".

Asked if they plan to take their covers on tour, he replied: "When we can, I'm sure we will. That's the plan and everyone wants to."

"I like it when everyone's there," he added. "I want to be hot and sweaty and especially the Jaded stuff. It lends its hand to that and you want it to be a bit raucous and in your face".

THE BEATLES legend Sir Paul McCartney has shared a touching childhood photograph with George Harrison and Ivan Vaughan, The Quarrymen member who introduced Paul to John Lennon.

Before The Beatles, John Lennon formed The Quarrymen in 1956. A year later Paul McCartney joined, before George Harrison in 1958. Lennon’s childhood friend Ivan Vaughan introduced him to McCartney on July 6, 1957 at the Woolton village fête, sparking the most successful songwriting partnership in the history of music.

Now Sir Paul McCartney has shared a touching childhood photograph with Ivan Vaughan and George Harrison in 1958.

McCartney and Vaughan were around 16-years-old at the time, while Harrison was a year younger.

Sir Paul comments on the snap: “We had a few words and phrases that, if one of us said it, would amuse the others because it was like a secret code…”

Vaughn played tea-chest bass part-time for The Quarrymen, and went on to study Classics at University College, London.

Throughout this time, he remained in touch with his friends The Beatles as they rose to fame.

He went on to teach Psychology at Homerton College, Cambridge from 1973 to 1983.

But tragically was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease at a young age.

According to his wife Jan, when Lennon found out, he sent Vaughn a number of inspirational books from New York to help him cope.

After retiring, Vaughn wrote a book called Living with Parkinson’s, published in 1986.

He died in 1993 at the age of just 51-years-old and at the funeral McCartney’s Blackbird was sung.

The Beatle even sent a poem called Ivan to his widow, which echoed their friendship and those “crazy invented words” Sir Paul mentioned in his post.

A line from the poem reads: “A classic scholar he, A rocking roller me, As firm as friends could be.”

Meanwhile, in June Sir Paul paid tribute to The Beatles’ original bassist Stuart Sutcliffe on what would have been his 80th birthday.

The late musician came up with the band’s name The Beetles with Lennon before the latter changed it to be a play on “beat”.

Sutcliffe left the band after one year in 1961, before tragically dying of a brain haemorrhage at the age of just 21.

Sir Paul posted a snap of himself with Lennon, Harrison, Sutcliffe and original Beatles drummer Pete Best.

The 78-year-old wrote: “Our original bass player Stuart would have been 80 today! 

“So many great memories of our time together. Happy birthday Stu! Love Paul.”

Meanwhile, Sir Ringo Starr celebrated his 80th birthday and this October marks the same for John Lennon.

While in December it will have been 40 years since Lennon was tragically assassinated.
