Paul to perform at The Royal Albert Hall for the Teenage Cancer Trust

www.paulmccartney.com

Paul will perform for Teenage Cancer Trust on Thursday 29 March. A 15-time Grammy winner and recipient of The Recording Academy's Lifetime Achievement and Trustees Awards, Paul's list of accolades reads like no other. Having changed the world of music forever with The Beatles, McCartney has continued to push boundaries for over 40 years. The start of 2012 has seen Paul release a new album Kisses On The Bottom and tracks from this new record will be performed on this special night.
Thursday 29 March                Paul McCartney
Friday 30 March                     Example
Saturday 31 March                 Pulp
Sunday 1 April                        Jessie J
Monday 2 April (Comedy)      An evening of comedy hosted by Jason Manford plus special guests
Tuesday 3 April                       Florence + the Machine
Teenage Cancer Trust's longstanding patron and The Who front man, Roger Daltrey CBE, has been the driving force behind these concerts for over a decade.  Roger said, "Every year my team and I work really hard to make these concerts for Teenage Cancer Trust something special.  This year is no exception and the line up of artists donating their time and talent is incredible, I hope there's something for everyone.

I'm proud to be a patron of Teenage Cancer Trust. I've been involved for nearly 20 years, and this is the twelfth year we've staged these shows. I might be a rock star, but I'm also a dad. I know teenagers aren't children, and they're certainly not quite adults either. They're a group all on their own and they need to be recognized as that. The work Teenage Cancer Trust does building hospitals wards that don't feel like hospitals and bringing these young people with cancer together is invaluable. So to all parents out there, these are your teenagers, support this charity. "

Eleven years of concerts have raised over £14 million for Teenage Cancer Trust, making a real difference to the lives of thousands of young people with cancer. All money raised has helped the charity to build more specialist teenage cancer units in NHS hospitals across the UK, allowing young people to be treated together with others their own age, in an environment suited to their needs.

Tickets, from £25.00 (plus booking fee), will be available from 9.30am on Friday 24 February 2012 and can be purchased from the following outlets:

Kisses on the courtside: Paul and Nancy at the Knicks game

Kisses on the courtside: Paul McCartney and his wife Nancy Shevell indulge in a PDA while watching the New York Knicks
By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

18th February 2012

Basketball clearly had an amorous effect on Paul McCartney and his wife  Nancy Shevell last night.
The couple were in New York at Madison Square Garden, where they watched the New Orleans Hornets defeat the New York Knicks.
And the 69-year-old singer enjoyed a PDA midway through the game with his wife, kissing her in full view of those around them.

As they watched the NBA match, the couple cheered on the players and were clearly having enjoying their evening out.
Nancy looked great in a black jacket and white T-shirt with what appeared to be a map emblazoned across the front.
She appeared fresh-faced as always, taking her place next to her husband in the crowd.

In the match the New York Knicks had their seven-game winning streak brought to an end losing 89-85  to the New Orleans Hornets.
Meanwhile Paul McCartney says he will stop smoking marijuana because of his daughter Beatrice, who is nine this year.
He told Rolling Stone: 'I smoked my share. When you're bringing up a youngster, your sense of responsibility does kick in, if you're lucky, at some point. Enough's enough – you just don't seem to think it's necessary.'

Sir Paul was first introduced to cannabis by Bob Dylan in the mid 1960s, and has had several run-ins with the police over his use of the drug.
In 1980 he was arrested while touring Japan with his band Wings, after customs officials found cannabis in his luggage.
He spent 10 nights in prison before being deported.

McCartney also spoke to Rolling Stone magazine about the Beatles reunion that never was.
He explained that although the possibility of a reunion was discussed, it never happened, because there was always one member or another for whom it didn't feel right at the time.
He said the band were always concerned that a reunion may taint their fans memories of the band - had it not turned out well.
He said: 'It could have spoiled the whole idea of The Beatles, so wrong that they'd be like "Oh, my God, they weren't any good"'
But despite never getting back together as a full band, it was revealed that individual members of The Beatles still found time to collaborate with each other over the years with Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr even playing Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts' Club Band at Eric Clapton's wedding in 1979.

Kisses on the Bottom – Who Owns The Songs?

McCartney’s Kisses on the Bottom – Who Owns The Songs?

Posted on
Just had an email from Bruce Hamlin, an Australian collector who runs The Beatles Records Information Service, with some information about the new Paul McCartney release of “Kisses on the Bottom” (out on February 7).
Because the album is Paul interpreting some of the great old songs he loves, Bruce muses at the end of his email: “The cynic in me reckons that Paul owns the publishing rights to all these songs too. Just for that extra bit of icing on the cake when the royalties come in….”
McCartney of course owns MPL Communications Limited, one of the biggest song publishing and licensing companies in the world – and in fact does own the rights to literally thousands of songs and covering nearly 100 years of music.
So, how many of the songs he’s covering on “Kisses on the Bottom” does McCartney already own, and will he subsequently get song royalties from tracks he didn’t write back into his own business? In the album’s track-list below I’ve put in RED whether MPL administers the publishing rights:
1. I’m Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter  -  YES  (written by Joe Young, Fred E. Ahlert, 1935)
2. Home (When Shadows Fall)  -
 NO
3. It’s Only A Paper Moon  -  NO
4. More I Cannot Wish You  -  YES  (written by Frank Loesser, 1949)
5. The Glory Of Love  -  NO
6. We Three (My Echo, My Shadow And Me)  -  YES  (written by Dick Robertson, Sammy Mysels, Nelson Cogane, 1939)
7. Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate The Positive  -
YES  (written by Harold Arlen, Johnny Mercer, 1944)
8. My Valentine  -
 YES  (it’s a new McCartney composition, 2012)
9. Always  -  NO
10. My Very Good Friend The Milkman  -  NO
11. Bye Bye Blackbird  -  NO
12. Get Yourself Another Fool  -  NO
13. The Inch Worm  -  YES  (written by Frank Loesser, 1951)
14. Only Our Hearts   -
YES  (another brand new McCartney composition, 2012)
The Deluxe CD Album will feature 2 bonus tracks:
15. Baby’s Request  -  YES  (it’s an older McCartney composition, previously performed by Wings on 1979′s “Back to the Egg” LP)
16. My One And Only Love  -
YES  (written by Guy Wood, Robert Mellin, 1952)
Therefore, in answer to Bruce’s question, for the standard CD edition of “Kisses” Paul McCartney owns half the songs. For the deluxe edition he owns the rights to 9 out of the 16 tracks.
Also, it’s just been pointed out to me by Beatlesblog reader Craig that two of the songs on the album have previously been released in versions on Apple Records. Ringo did “Bye, Bye Blackbird” on “Sentimental Journey” (his 1970 tribute to old songs he loves), and Mary Hopkin recorded “The Inch Worm” on her first album, “Postcard” (1968).
Peter Asher, Paul, Mary Hopkin at Trident Studios, London, 1968 (Apple)
Paul produced Mary Hopkin’s “Postcard”, so he must have liked the song “The Inch Worm” for a long time. He chose that album’s songs, the arranger and even the artwork for the album cover. From the liner notes of the digitally re-mastered edition of “Postcard” from 2010:
“Mary remembers that the show tunes and hits from yesteryear that make up half the collection were favourites of Paul’s father, Jim McCartney. They call to mind the valve-warming radio days of the BBC’s old Light Programme, Ringo Starr’s “Sentimental Journey” album that Apple would soon release, and the comfy familiarity that Paul evoked in Beatles songs such as “Honey Pie”, “When I’m Sixty Four” and “Your Mother Should Know”.
Sounds just like the 2012 publicity for “Kisses on the Bottom” doesn’t it.
“The Inch Worm” originally comes from the 1952 Danny Kaye film “Hans Christian Anderson”. And Paul’s company MPL Communications Limited now owns the publishing rights to the song.
You can access the database for all the songs that ML Communications has the rights to at: www.mplcommunications.com/search.php  For most tracks in the database you can also listen to full audio examples, often by a range of performers.
