RINGO STARR TALKS ALMOST MOVING TO TEXAS AT AGE 18 AND THAT TIME WHEN HIS DRUM KIT WENT MISSING AT THE CAVERN CLUB

Ringo Starr has lived in America for more than 50 of his 86 years, and he has held his annual Peace & Love Birthday Celebration in various U.S. locales, most recently his current home city of Beverly Hills, since 2008. During a press conference for his reflective new Americana album, the T Bone Burnett-produced Long Long Road, he revealed that before getting the fateful call from Brian Epstein to join the Beatles, he’d seriously considered moving to Texas at age 18.
So, when Starr spoke with Lyndsanity at this year’s birthday bash, just three days after America’s own big birthday, we had to ask how he thinks his life, and his career, might have panned out if he’d actually emigrated to the U.S. back in 1958.
“You never know, do you? I’d probably be queuing up to see Ringo playing,” quipped Starr, who just wrapped his All-Starr Band tour at Los Angeles’s Greek Theatre. But he knew that no matter where he ended up, he’d be playing the drums. And the scrappy, plucky, lucky musician would be making do, in any situation.
“I’d be doing rock/pop,” he said. “I came in with skiffle, which was with brushes and you learn how to play, and then went to just a snare drum. In fact, with the Beatles even, at the Cavern [in Liverpool] one time, everything turned up, all the instruments and the amps — but no drums, just the symbols! And we went on anyway! We were a lot looser in those days.”
Among the players at this year’s Peace & Love Birthday Celebration were members of Starr’s Long Long Road band, including Molly Tuttle, Sarah Jarosz, Daniel Tashian, Colin Linden, David Mansfield, Ketch Secor, Jeff Picker, and Gregg Bissonette. They were fittingly introduced by Burnett at “The Texans,” which the producer called “the greatest name for a band ever.” See highlights from the event below.

Sir Paul McCartney reportedly serenaded newlyweds Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce with 1963 Beatles hit “I Want to Hold Your Hand” at their Madison Square Garden reception Friday evening.
A source for People confirmed the performance by the legendary singer on Saturday, saying, “After the ceremony, Taylor’s mom Andrea invited everyone into the reception room where the stage was set up.”
The Grammy winner’s longtime pal, Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks, was also said to have performed at the star-studded extravaganza, which stretched into the early morning hours Saturday.
Page Six previously exclusively reported ahead of the nuptials that Knicks and Tim McGraw would entertain guests at the massive soirée.
Reps for McCartney and Swift did not immediately respond to Page Six’s requests for comment Saturday.
McCartney and Swift have been friends for years, and once appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone together.
The “Blank Space” hitmaker and NFL star, both 36, summoned a list of 1,000 guests — both A-list celebrities and close family members alike — to celebrate their union at an extravagant celebration at the New York City arena Friday.
A more intimate rehearsal dinner at the same venue Thursday evening was held for 100 members of the couple’s inner circle — including fellow songstress Selena Gomez, sports reporter Erin Andrews, Kelce’s pal Ross Travis and Swift’s longtime publicist, Tree Paine.
Following Friday’s massive bash, signs outside Madison Square Garden read “JUST&T MARRIED” to announce the news that the power couple had finally made things official.

The Empire State Building spires showcased a blue light show, acting as the “Opalite” singer’s “something blue.
A press release subsequently revealed Swift and Kelce wore Christian Dior Haute Couture to exchange vows, that comedian Adam Sandler officiated, and that Swift opted to enlist brother Austin Swift as her “Man of Honor,” while Travis enlisted his own brother, Jason Kelce, as “Best Man.”
After the blowout celebration, stars gushed over the experience on social media — including AMC Theatres CEO Adam Aron, who took to X with a since-deleted play-by-play account of the experience.
