The new album from The Beatles will be an exciting addition to any fan's collection.

A new video has been released to promote The Beatles' upcoming album release showcasing songs that the Liverpudlian band performed in session with the BBC. Entitled, On Air - Live At The BBC Volume 2, the new record will comprise of a 63 track, 2 disc album featuring a "48 page booklet with rare photos and introduction by Paul McCartney" as well as 37 unreleased performances and 23 excerpts of solid studio banter.

A New Album Of The Beatles Recordings Will Be Released.

On Air... will reportedly also include 10 previously unheard songs that the band played together but did not record with their record label, EMI, including their cover of Chuck Berry's 'I'm Talking About You' and the 19th century, oft covered 'Beautiful Dreamer,' according to The Independent.

Watch The Featurette Ad:

Though it seems like a large offering of music from the band, the 63 tracks selected for the new album have been selected from the 275 unique musical performances The Beatles played for the BBC between March 1962 and June 1965.

The Beatles Band
The Album Will Feature 37 Unheard Recordings & 10 Unrecorded Songs.

True Beatles fans will value the addition of the famous four-piece's studio banter. The group were known for their wit and sense of humour and the new speech excerpts will offer a new window into the inter-band relationships and BBC-based tomfoolery with radio hosts Brian Matthew and Alan Freeman. Due on release in November this year, the new record will serve as the sequel to 1994's Live At The BBC that sold 5 million copies.

Sir Paul McCartney has spoken about the imminent release and the importance of the recordings, saying "There's a lot of energy and spirit. We are going for it, not holding back at all, trying to put in the best performance of our lifetimes."

The Beatles BBC
The Beatles Held The BBC In High Esteem.

McCartney also spoke warmly of the BBC and the significance the broadcaster held for his band: "We'd been raised on the BBC radio programmes. One of the big things in our week was Saturday Club - this great show was playing the kind of music we loved, so that was something we really aspired to."
The release will be available in a special 180-gram vinyl package with a 48-page booklet as well as on CD and download.

McCartney 'New' news: Taking it to the streets; Best Buy, Walmart exclusives
Steve Marinucci
Beatles Examiner
September 15, 2013

Paul McCartney fans on the streets of New York are seeing a familiar sight – the logo for McCartney's “New” album on sidewalks, New York Rock Culture Examiner Jeff Slate told us Sept. 14. It goes along with the social media promotion being used for “New.”
This might have something to do with what was posted on the McCartney website: “Seeing as the new album will be called 'NEW', I am inviting you all to post your pictures to Instagram using the hashtag #whatsnewpaul anytime you see the word new on the street or in a magazine or wherever. To start the ball rolling I've done a couple myself which you can check out below, and I look forward to seeing the most inventive ones that you send in. Cheers Paul.”

There hasn't been a lot of responses on Instagram just yet.

ANOTHER “NEW” VERSION:
There are no details as to what it will be “exclusive” about it, but Best Buy is listing an “exclusive” version of “New.” You'll recall they did an exclusive for "Wings Over America." Walmart also has it's own exclusive, the deluxe edition with 15 tracks, adding "Turned Out," "Scared" and "Get Me Out of Here," matching the version from Amazon in France. (Thanks to Roger Stormo.)

by beatlesblogger
September 11, 2013

It is one month today until the official UK release of respected Beatle historian, Mark Lewisohn's first volume in his three-part complete history of the band.

Volume One is called The Beatles All These Years: Tune In.

Beatles Tune In

Hmmm. Still not sure about that cover.

There are two videos about All These Years: Tune In on YouTube - the first a short introduction to the book:

The second a longer interview with Lewisohn about why he wrote the book and why it is important:

There will be two versions in the UK. The "trade" or standard, single book edition of 960 pages, and a deluxe, extended edition across two books totalling 1728 pages and featuring many extra words and photographs. The special edition consists of "....two individual hardbacks printed on New Langely Antique Wove wood free paper, with red-and-white head and tail bands and red ribbon marker. The two books will sit within a specially designed box and lid featuring soft touch and varnish finishes." Both are published by Little Brown.

Then there will be the US edition - just a single volume of 944 pages has been announced so far and with a different cover.

Lewisohn Beatles USA

The book comes out in the USA on October 29 and is published by Crown Archetype, a subsidiary of Random House.

It looks like it'll be a landmark publication - one I'll be keen to read and have in the collection.

Dhani Harrison plays For You Blue in TV ad

Gap Returns to Television Advertising After Four Years
By Lindsey Rupp
Sep 16, 2013

Gap Inc. (GPS), the biggest U.S. specialty-apparel retailer, is running television ads for its namesake brand for the first time in four years as it seeks to build on the chain’s recent turnaround.
The two videos debuting today feature musicians performing modern renditions of songs their fathers made famous. In one ad, Alexa Ray Joel, sings Billy Joel’s “Just The Way You Are” accompanying herself on the piano. In the other, Dhani Harrison, son of The Beatles’s George Harrison, sings and plays “For You Blue” on guitar. The spots promote Gap’s “Back to Blue” campaign for the brand’s fall denim selection.
Chief Executive Officer Glenn Murphy is bringing Gap back to television after recent successes in drawing customers in with new denim and fitness apparel. Sales at Gap stores open at least a year have gained for six straight quarters, helping propel the shares to the best performance for an apparel company in the Standard & Poor’s 500 Retailing Index this year.
“Now that they’re seeing strength in the Gap brand itself, it’s probably time to invest in television advertising,” Jason Asaeda, a New York-based analyst at Standard & Poor’s, said in a telephone interview before the release. Asaeda has a hold rating on the shares. “With television advertising, if people haven’t been in a store in a while, if they like what they see they might go in and check it out.”
The ads were shot in single takes in the studio and feature minimal editing, a contrast to the highly edited, high-energy performances that characterized previous Gap campaigns, such as its iconic 1998 khakis campaign set to swing music.
Introducing Audiences
Other Gap commercials have featured celebrities from Audrey Hepburn to Madonna. While viewers may not recognize the performers in the new ads, they probably have heard of The Beatles, said Seth Farbman, chief marketing officer for the Gap brand. The ads are meant to introduce audiences to something new, whether its millennials learning about the musicians’ fathers or older generations experiencing new versions of a familiar song, he said.
“Discovery is a big part of it for everyone, but especially millennials -- that is like social capital and value,” Farbman said in a phone interview. “It’s very simple to borrow this person’s equity and put it on your ad, but that’s different than sharing something you think people are going to like.”
The ads will run until Oct. 13, Tricia Nichols, the senior director for global consumer engagement and partnerships, wrote in an e-mail. The spots will run around events, such as NFL football games, the American Music Awards and premieres of popular shows such as Modern Family, she wrote.
More Affordable
With Gap’s sales improving, the company can more easily afford the investment in television ads, and the brand may see them as a way to draw shoppers’ interest in the absence of a strong apparel trend like last year’s colored denim, Stephanie Wissink, a Minneapolis-based analyst at Piper Jaffray Cos., said in a phone interview before the release. She has the equivalent of a hold rating on the shares
“They have the brand presence, whether you like the product or not,” Simeon Siegel, a New York-based analyst for Nomura Securities, said in a phone interview before the release. Siegel has the equivalent of a hold rating on the shares. “Maybe they’re spending now so when the product comes back, then they can really push it.”
Gap hasn’t decided whether to run more television ads for the brand during the holiday season, Murphy said on the company’s earnings call Aug. 22.
Gap rose 0.6 percent to $41.91 at 9:34 a.m. in New York. The shares gained 34 percent this year through the close of trading Sept. 13, compared with an 18 percent increase for the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index.
