THEY may have topped the charts on both sides of the Atlantic but Sir Paul McCartney struggled to get any respect when he was in Wings.

The singer, who formed the rock band alongside his late wife Linda in 1971 after being in The Beatles, said that despite Wings producing hit album Band On The Run he was frequently slammed by critics.

“Wings was difficult but rewarding,” he told Classic Rock magazine: “I sometimes wonder if it was crazy after The Beatles to do the entire thing again.

“We struggled for years with Wings because we decided to try and do it from the ground up instead of coming in at some high level with superstars so we had to try and learn our craft all over again.’’

But Sir Paul, 71, whose band mates included drummer Denny Seiwell and former Moody Blues guitarist Denny Laine, said it was the setbacks that resulted in the “rewarding” camaraderie within Wings.

“What I hoped would happen did, that we would get to know each other, the feel of each other not just me getting lumped in with five other famous people,” he added. 

“So we learned this is a special thing being in a band, which is about understanding each other. So the memory of the Seventies is that yes, it was difficult but the fact it worked was rewarding.’’

A copy of Wings’ 1972 single ‘Hi, Hi, Hi’ / ‘C Moon’ signed by both Paul McCartney and his wife Linda has sold for $1,205 after 16 bids on eBay. The late Linda added “Happy New Year” to her inscription.

‘Hi, Hi, Hi’ was originally slated as the A-side to the 45, but the song was banned in McCartney’s native England because of its drug references. So the reggae-styled ‘C Moon’ became a No. 5 U.K. hit. ‘Hi, Hi, Hi’ managed to reach No. 10 in the U.S.

This version of Wings — which also included Denny Laine, Henry McCullough and Denny Seiwell — subsequently recorded the ‘Red Rose Speedway’ album, which spawned the No. 1 hit ‘My Love.’ Linda died in 1998 after a cancer battle; McCullough is currently recovering from a massive heart attack.

Meanwhile, McCartney has recently returned ‘Hi, Hi, Hi’ to his set list. The last time he played the song he was still fronting Wings.

Paul McCartney's official blog currently has an article about Paul attending the opening of a Linda McCartney photographic retrospective at the Kunst Haus Wien Museum in Vienna, Austria.



This is very similar in scope to a previous exhibition which premiered in New York in June, 2011.







The museum site includes an interesting extract from a documentary about Linda made for Austrian television:



As one fan puts it on the McCartney website: "I love that you are keeping Linda's legacy alive. Her art and her spirit."

Paul's all-new "Out There" tour began in Brazil on the 4th May. Since then (among other things!) he has braved a stage invasion from a swarm of grasshoppers, been awarded the key to the city of Austin and performed a spot-on impersonation of Elvis in Memphis!

All of this has been captured on film along with soundchecks, impromptu backstage freestyles and personal messages from Paul (with his band!) and are collected together in the "Out There" playlist on YouTube.

Bids soar for unsigned album in excellent condition, during five-day-auction

(Source: WhatSellsBest.com) - A five-day-auction has ended, with this rare Beatles album fetching a winning-bid of *$10,795 on eBay.

The unsigned record, Please Please Me, was described by the seller as being in excellent/near mint condition, and worthy of being in a museum.

Here's an excerpt from the sellers listing, describing the condition; "This is without doubt the one of the best examples of this record anywhere in the world! The vinyl surfaces are simply stunning and the black and gold labels are as good as you will ever see. This vinyl has hardly been played and has obviously been very well cared for over the years with only the odd very faint whispy mark showing under very strong light."

Interesting side note. The records title song Please Please Me, "didn't do anything" when it was first released in America. According to Paul McCartney, at a concert early in the Beatles career (see the first 15 seconds of video).

Why's The Record Valuable?

Due to their impact on society, and lasting popularity (worldwide), many consider the Beatles to be one of the most influential music groups in popular culture.

Because of this, the band has an extremely large collector base of fans, fighting over the very-limited-supply of early memorabilia, still in good condition.

This combination of a huge-demand for scarce-supply, can propel prices into the stratosphere. Especially when collectors know they may never get another chance to buy certain items.

Please Please Me was the debut album by the Beatles. Being in exceptional condition, it's one of those rare scarce items that only come along once in awhile.

Auction Data & Statistics

The Beatles Please, Please Me album received 20 bids from 7 bidders over the course of 5-days. Opening bid was *$1.51 (GBP 0.99), final bid was *$10,795 (GBP 7,100). The eBay view-counter recorded over 900 visitors to the listing. The auction ended Thursday, June 27, (2013) at 11:14am Pacific Standard Time.

Just when you were recovering from the release of Wings Over America (in deluxe box set, triple vinyl, and standard CD), and Rockshow on DVD and Blu-Ray, comes news of yet another Paul McCartney release to track down.

This time he's teamed up once more with Youth (from the Fireman series of releases) and an Italian dance punk outfit which goes by the name of The Bloody Beetroots. They've just issued a pretty crazy single called Out Of Sight. Here's the teaser clip:

The single came out on June 14.

Rolling Stone magazine says of the song: Out of Sight (which also features Youth) finds the old Beatle appealing to the stadium EDM crowd in a heavily thumping, airily melodic track on which he wails in his finest Little Richard mode.
