Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band kicked off its latest tour over the weekend with the first two of eight shows at the Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas.

The residency takes place less than two weeks after the fatal shootings at the Route 91 Harvest country festival there, and Starr tells us he's keenly aware of both what happened and what he'd like to accomplish with his time in Sin City:

"We are trying to spread peace and love and it was a terrible day, the first of this month. Just by chance I was here on the second. I booked it weeks ago. I had to come see some people, and the vibe was very low, which is understandable, but it affected me really bad because I was in the vicinity. So we're back and we're gonna play that show with a lot of peace and love and try to raise the spirits."

The current All-Starr lineup has been together since 2012 and includes Todd Rundgren, Toto's Steve Lukather, Santana/Journey co-founder Greg Rolie, Mister Mister's Richard Page, Warren Hamma and Gregg Bissonnette.

Starr's latest run, which wraps up November 16 in Newark, N.J., is supporting is new album Give More Love, which features Lukather, Page and Bissonnette as well as Paul McCartney, Joe Walsh, Peter Frampton, Edgar Winter, Eagles' Timothy B. Schmidt and more.
