How far would you drive to see Paul McCartney in concert?

Paul McCartney is bringing his One On One tour to New Jersey and New York City. Officials on Tuesday announced McCartney will perform for the first time at Prudential Center in Newark on Sept. 15, Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Sept. 19, and Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Long Island in Sept. Promoters say the One On One tour opened in April 2016 in Fresno, California, with McCartney's first performance of "A Hard Day's Night" since the Beatles last played it in 1965.

You don't need me to tell you that we're down to two living Beatles, though we're fortunate in that Paul McCartney, 76, and Ringo Starr, 74, remain pretty active at an age when most of us hope to be retired.

Starr already announced a spate of dates for this year, which will bring him to Sugar Land in November.

And McCartney set some tour dates for this summer, which don't touch down in these parts. He recently added a few second dates in cities he was already planning to play, like Chicago and Detroit. But it looks increasingly like McCartney's One on One tour may not expand further.

Where does that leave Houston fans? Well, anybody with means can buy airfare to Wichita, Brooklyn or Omaha. Those inclined to drive should know that on July 15, he'll play Bossier City, La., a mere 243 miles away. Two nights later, he'll play Oklahoma City, a shade under 450 miles from here.


Paul McCartney isn't coming to Houston this year, but his tour isn't going to be that far away, if you're willing to travel.

I'm not going to tell you what to do. I'm just telling you where he'll be.

McCartney certainly needs no marketing cause to tour. That said, last month he released a deluxe reissue of "Flowers in the Dirt," a 1989 album with all sorts of demos and extras including some of his collaborative work with Elvis Costello that didn't make the final recording. He's put one, "Back on My Feet,"  on his site. The voice plus  piano tune is quite fetching.
