After last month's announcement that Ron Howard's Beatles documentary would launch Hulu Documentary Films, a release date and trailer have been revealed. The Beatles: Eight Days a Week — The Touring Years will hit theaters on September 15th and the streaming service on September 17th.
Ron Howard's documentary capturing the early touring years of the Beatles will be released in select theaters and on Hulu this September.
Howard first announced that he was working on a Beatles documentary in 2014, telling Rolling Stone that he would be utilizing rare, silent Super 8 footage for much of the film and working closely with surviving member Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr as well as the widows of deceased members John Lennon and George Harrison, Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison.
"We'll not only be able to digitally repair [the Super 8 footage], but we've also been finding the original recordings," Howard said in the same interview. "We can now sync it up and create a concert experience so immersive and so engaging, I believe you're going to actually feel like you're somewhere in the Sixties, seeing what it was like to be there, feeling it and hearing it. And as a film director, that's a fantastic challenge."
The film will trace the band's earliest years, capturing the young Fab Four from 1962 through 1966. The film's trailer captures the early mayhem of Beatlemania, exploring both their youthful exuberance that was captured in the music as well as the fear and danger of being so famous.
For the film's U.S. theatrical release, which will hit only select theaters throughout the country, Hulu will partner with indie distributor Abramorama. A partnership with StudioCanal will make the film available in the U.K., France, Germany, Australia and New Zealand as well, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
