“Octopus’s Garden,” a children’s book by Ringo Starr that is based on a song from the Beatles’ “Abbey Road” album, could become an animated TV series.
Superprod, a Paris-based production company, has reportedly struck a rights deal with Simon & Schuster, Universal Music Publishing and Startling Music to develop the series based on the illustrated book.
Superights, a family entertainment distribution company founded by Axone Invest and Superprod, will be pitching it next month at the international rights bazaar MIPTV in Cannes, France.
The book, which includes a CD that contains an exclusive version of the song (among the few in the Beatles’ portfolio featuring Ringo as the main vocalist) and an audio reading by Ringo, has sold 17,000 copies since its release in early 2014.
