NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -
Wednesday marks 51 years since the Fab Four rocked New Orleans City Park.
On September 16, 1964, the Beatles took the stage at City Park Stadium. This would be the only time that the Beatles performed in New Orleans.
The concert brought full-fledge Beatle-Mania to the area. According to Bruce Spizer, a Beatles historian, everyone was excited about the British Invasion of New Orleans.
On September 16, 1964, the Beatles took the stage at City Park Stadium. This would be the only time that the Beatles performed in New Orleans.
"Everyone wanted to get on the Beatles bandwagon," he said. "They did a press conference. Mayor Schiro went to the press conference and he met with the Beatles and handed out a proclamation to them and got the Beatles to sign this proclamation."
In 1964, 14-year-old Darlene Bersuder was captured in a photo waiting with friends for the concert outside Tad Gormley Stadium.
She saw the old pictures of people crushing against the gates, waiting for them to open for the concert.
"I think someone told me there were 13,000 people there," she said. "People were just going wild, screaming."
