Spanish journalist plans celebration for 50th anniversary of Strawberry Fields Forever

Spanish writer and journalist J Adolfo Iglesias is giving a talk in Liverpool about John Lennon’s links with the country.

John Lennon and Strawberry Fields Forever, the Untold Story takes place at Liverpool Central Library on Friday.

The Beatle wrote his famous song, inspired by the Woolton Sally Army children’s home, when he was in Almeria during the filming of Richard Lester’s How I Won the War in 1966.

Adolfo researched Lennon’s links with his home and has promoted them in the Andalusian city.

Now he hopes to forge links with Liverpool to mark the 50th anniversary of the song.

He says: “I promoted and raised awareness in my hometown up to the point the Almeria Council recovered, restored and transformed into a museum the house where John Lennon recorded Strawberry Fields Forever in 1966.

“I discovered that house and its story. I kept on and promoted the John Lennon statue, and I brought back Richard Lester who was paid a tribute by Almeria.”

John Lennon and Strawberry Fields Forever, the Untold Story is at Liverpool Central Library from 5-7pm on Friday and is free.
