The Traveling Wilburys are undoubtedly one of the bands most consistently recognized among the greatest supergroups in rock history.

Together with legendary acts like Cream, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Asia and Emerson, Lake & Palmer, these bands united an all-star lineup of celebrated musicians and solo artists whose combined talents and star power helped define what a true rock supergroup should be.

In a ranking released by BBC Music, The Traveling Wilburys, composed of George Harrison of The Beatles, renowned singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, Tom Petty of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Jeff Lynne of the Electric Light Orchestra and Roy Orbison, landed at No. 7 among the 23 bands.

Described by the publication as “the starriest supergroup of all time,” the band managed to deliver two hit albums and several notable tracks, including “Handle With Care.”

Released as the opening track on their 1988 debut album, Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1, the song showcased an upbeat, catchy folk-rock sound with rich, contrasting vocal harmonies from its members.

The lyrics have often been interpreted as exploring vulnerability, emotional exhaustion and the search for love and tenderness in a relationship.

Some listeners have also interpreted the track as the band’s “confession” about the exhausting realities behind fame and aging in the music industry.

“Handle With Care” was initially intended to serve as the B-side for Harrison’s single “This Is Love” but was ultimately released as The Traveling Wilburys’ debut single instead.

The track peaked at No. 45 on the Billboard Hot 100 while the album reached No. 3 on the Billboard 200.

Apart from their Billboard success, “Handle With Care” became one of The Traveling Wilburys’ signature songs, alongside another hit track, “End of the Line,” both of which appeared on Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1.

Unfortunately, shortly after releasing their first album and amid the supergroup’s success, Orbison passed away from a heart attack in 1988 at the age of 52.

The remaining four members continued the band with drummer Jim Keltner joining them for Traveling Wilburys Vol. 3 in 1990.

“Roy was the absolute reason why they even came together in the first place,” the drummer described the late Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee during his 2018 interview with Billboard.  “They all loved George and would have certainly come together for him. But with Roy, it was a no-brainer. The first album had this magic to it, and that was all Roy.”

Moreover, Keltner praised how Orbison became the center of the group, saying he “kept them having fun and knowing they were doing something special.”

A cross-generational mix of acts will celebrate Yoko Ono at Los Angeles’ The Broad on Saturday, August 8, during a program dubbed Yoko Only: The Music of Yoko Ono. Keyboardist Yuka Honda will serve as the event’s guest curator and perform a selection of Yoko Ono and Plastic Ono Band tracks as part of a supergroup that includes her husband, Wilco guitarist Nels Cline, and Yo La Tengo. Guest vocalists and musicians like Theo Bleckmann, Finom, Emi Helfrich, Satomi Matsuzaki, Maggie Parkins, Patrick Shiroishi, Sleater-Kinney, Sylvan Esso, Tune-Yards and Rufus Wainwright will also join the ensemble throughout the night.

The all-star show coincides with Yoko Ono: Music of the Mind, the 93-year-old artist’s first solo museum exhibition in Southern California. Organized in collaboration with Tate Modern, London, the exhibition will be on display at The Broad through October 11. The concert will take place at The Broad’s East West Bank Plaza and promises Ono material ranging from “the avant-garde to Billboard hits.”

“The programming for Yoko Ono: Music of The Mind will offer Angelinos opportunities to experience the breadth of Ono’s artistic production from music to performance to Fluxus activations that actively engage visitors. Yuka Honda was invited to curate Yoko Only because of her intimate knowledge of Yoko’s creative intentions that informed her music,” Broad Director of Audience Engagement Ed Patuto, who organized the programming for the exhibition, said in a statement.

Honda, meanwhile, added: “Music was the first thing on Yoko’s artistic mind; it began during her childhood and grew through many stages of her life. Like dandelion seeds, her ideas flew and landed in our hearts, opening our mind’s eye to new skies. On August 8th, we will unite to celebrate the flower garden she gave us.”

Honda produced Sean Lennon’s 1998 debut album, Into the Sun and performed with him as part of the duo Cibo Matto. They also dated for a time and remain close collaborators.

One of the world's largest Beatles collections opens next month in downtown St. Pete

THE PENNY LANE BEATLES MUSEUM WILL OPEN NEXT MONTH IN DOWNTOWN ST. PETE | ST. PETE RISING

The Penny Lane Beatles Museum, containing one of the world's largest permanent Beatles collections, will debut in downtown St. Pete on August 5th.

The new 2,100-square-foot museum will be located at 146 2nd Street North on the ground floor of the Palais Royale office building.

The nonprofit museum announced its move to St. Pete last year and closed its Dunedin location in June.

The new St. Pete space is four times the size of the museum's former Dunedin location, allowing the organization to significantly expand both its exhibits and programming.

Visitors entering the new museum will be greeted by a reception area, gift shop, and a small stage featuring Ringo Starr's drum kit.

The museum's interior will be filled with bright colors and psychedelic artwork inspired by the band's late-'60s era, including albums such as Magical Mystery Tour and Yellow Submarine.

Outside, the building's awning will project colorful moving patterns onto the sidewalk.

THE MUSEUM CONTAINS INSTRUMENTS, SIGNED DOCUMENTS, RARE COLLECTIBLES, TOYS, GAMES FROM THE 1960S, APPAREL, AND EVEN A PRIZED PAIR OF JOHN LENNON'S GLASSES | PENNY LANE

Large display cases throughout the museum will showcase Beatles memorabilia, while a dedicated children's room will offer coloring and other hands-on activities.

Pinellas Park-based Creative Arts Unlimited has created several larger-than-life installations inspired by Beatles songs, including a mechanical octopus and a yellow submarine that will be visible from the street.

“Everything they have designed is absolutely purposeful, intentional for this space. You're not going to find it anywhere else in the world,” Executive Director Craig Bachner said in a conversation with St. Pete Rising.

Penny Lane was founded in 2017 by local radiologist Dr. Robert Entel.

Entel funds the museum and supplies its exhibits from his personal collection, which includes instruments, signed documents, rare collectibles, toys, games from the 1960s, apparel, and even a prized pair of John Lennon's glasses.

The museum plans to regularly rotate exhibits, allowing visitors to see new artifacts from Dr. Robert Entel's extensive collection, much of which is currently stored in a warehouse.

Professional curator Allison Holuban is leading the exhibition design, and QR codes throughout the galleries will eventually give visitors additional historical context about many of the artifacts on display.

“Being here with all the other museum attractions and other growth activities that St. Petersburg has had to offer makes a trip to Penny Lane an interesting destination for travelers,” said Bachner. “I can see people visiting us, as well as other museums in the area on the same day.”

The museum will be within walking distance of the Museum of the American Arts & Crafts Movement, The James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art, The Florida Holocaust Museum, Museum of Fine Arts and several other downtown museums.

Penny Lane also plans to partner with local nonprofits and arts organizations, including The Florida Orchestra, the University of South Florida's music department, and Creative Pinellas to present live music and educational programming both inside the museum and at venues throughout the city.

The foyer of the Palais Royale building will host stripped-down candlelit performances by Beatles tribute bands, and the museum also hopes to bring in guest speakers and Beatles historians from around the world.

“It's not necessarily an educational museum in the sense of trying to document history, but we're more interested in spreading the peace, love, and happiness that The Beatles were all about,” Bachner says. “My favorite thing is listening to people tell their Beatles stories. Everybody has one.”

A grand opening celebration is planned for this fall. The museum also expects to launch an online merchandise store in the coming months.

Admission will be $15 for visitors ages 8 and older. Bachner says the fee will help support the nonprofit's ongoing operations.

“We are a not-for-profit museum and we want to make sure everyone knows that nobody is getting rich off of this,” said Bachner. “We rely on sponsorships, donations and grants to keep going.”

When it opens on August 5th, Penny Lane will welcome visitors from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday, with plans to eventually add live music on Saturday evenings.

Dungeon Lane – One More Variation!

by BeatlesBlogger

Posted on July 8, 2026

Just when you thought you’d seen every coloured vinyl and CD of The Boys of Dungeon Lane possible, another one quietly sneaks in…….

We’ve updated our chart. Can you see it?

It’s the little Yoto player edition on the bottom row.

Yoto players are designed for kids to listen to stories and music on pre-recorded digital cards that slot into the player, plus they can record their own creations onto blank cards and play them back. The Boys of Dungeon Lane card contains the full album, and it comes with unique cover art. So far it looks like this edition is only available through the UK Yoto store.

The company is slowly building up quite a relationship with McCartney and The Beatles. A couple of years back they issued short versions of The Beatles 1962-1966 [Yoto Edition]:

And of course its companion The Beatles 1967-1970 [Yoto Edition]:

They also have a unique compilation album called Say Hello to Paul McCartney, designed to introduce kids to McCartney’s back-catalogue:

This 14-song card includes two tracks never-before released on a music product – the ‘Hey Grandude’ and ‘Hey Nandude’ themes in full, from Paul’s two children’s books.

Speaking of which, in line with the kid’s storytelling aspect of the players, Yoto has audio book versions of the two titles, Hey Grandude and Grandude’s Green Submarine:

Now, if you’re thinking these cards look kind of cool and collectable but I don’t want to buy an expensive device just to listen to them, you don’t actually need a stand-alone Yoto player. The Yoto app can be downloaded for free to your phone, and a simple tap of the card gives you access to the contents. The cards are the size of a credit card:
