Beatles star Paul McCartney has remembered fellow bandmate George Harrison on his 74th birth anniversary.
The music legend shared a touching message along with a throwback photo on Twitter.
"My lovely friend George! Still celebrating his birthday. Lucky to have had him in my life," McCartney wrote, along side the picture where the duo could be seen jamming at a recording session.

Born in Liverpool on February 25, 1943, Harrison met McCartney at the age of 14 and teamed up with The Beatles in 1960.
He died of lung cancer at the age of 58 on November 29, 2001.

Celebrate George Harrison's Birthday With The Vinyl Rerelease Of His Solo Discography

Celebrate George Harrison's Birthday With The Vinyl Rerelease Of His Solo Discography

George Harrison's legacy as a solo musician will always be overshadowed by his career with The Beatles, which is a shame because he released more than a dozen albums with huge hits after the Fab Four disbanded in 1970. If you haven't heard any of those, now's your chance.

To celebrate the late rock icon's 74th birthday today, his estate is releasing a special edition of his records called 'George Harrison - The Vinyl Collection'. The rerelease features all 13 of his albums, beginning with 1968 movie soundtrack 'Wonderwall Music' to his posthumous album 'Brainwashed' (2002). It also includes his 'Live in Japan' double album (1992).

Unfortunately, it doesn't include The Concert for Bangladesh triple album, featuring Harrison, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Ravi Shankar and others performing live. But the new vinyl collection does come with two 12-inch picture discs featuring the singles 'Got My Mind Set on You' (1987) and 'When We Was Fab' (1988).

All of the discs are pressed on 180-gram heavyweight vinyl, using newly remastered cuts of the original recordings. And if you need something to play them on, you can also pick up a limited edition Harrison-themed turntable.

Here's the vinyl rerelease's teaser trailer.

In 1980, Genesis Publication released I Me Mine, the first of many collaborations between Beatles guitarist, singer, and songwriter George Harrison and publisher Brian Roylance. Cherished by fans the world over, the book is now being re-released as an extended edition, which will officially launch with a pop-up exhibition and store at Shepard Fairey’s Subliminal Projects, Los Angeles, on Sunday, February 26, 2017, from 12:00–6:00 p.m.

The event, which honor’s Harrison’s 74th birthday, will feature an exhibition of his handwritten lyrics and personal commentary on his songs, pictures from the family albums, and original portraits of Harrison by Shepard Fairey. The exhibition will also include rare limited editions on display such as I Me Mine, Songs by George Harrison 1 and 2, Concert for George, Fifty Years Adrift, and Live in Japan.

 Paul, John & George 1959

The pop-up store will feature framed prints and books by Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono, Ronnie Wood, and Sir Peter Blake celebrating the genius of George Harrison and honoring his legacy. A special I ME MINE package has been created for the exhibition, consisting of the new book, a poster and book bag; the first 100 customers will receive copies signed by Shepard Fairey.

I Me Mine: The Extended Edition is a feat of publishing, now stretching to 632 pages, with lyrics to 59 songs not previously included (for a total of 141 songs) and new photographs, many unpublished until now. The handwritten lyrics are beautifully reproduced in facsimile, accompanied by Harrison’s uniquely intimate and humorous commentary.

The book, which is the closest thing we have to a memoir, features Harrison in conversation with friend and former Beatles press officer Derek Taylor. Here, he discusses everything from his upbringing in Liverpool and the growth of early Beatlemania, to his love of India, gardening, and racing cars. It also includes
written contributions from Olivia Harrison and original cover art by Shepard Fairey.

“All the world is birthday cake, so take a piece, but not too much,” Harrison wisely observed, and though he is not here to join us for the celebration, his art, his wisdom, and his spirit live on.

PAUL McCARTNEY
Gets ONE ON ONE with Japan
First 2017 Tour Dates Confirmed
27th April: The Dome, TOKYO
29th April: The Dome, TOKYO
30th April: The Dome, TOKYO
Paul McCartney will be getting 'One On One' with Japan this April – his first set of live dates to be announced in 2017.
Speaking about his forthcoming visit Paul said: "I’m really excited to be taking the 'One On One' Tour to Japan. We always have an amazing time there and the audiences have always been so brilliant. We have such special memories from our last trip and we look forward to making many more this time round. Let’s rock Japan!"
His new 'One On One' Tour launched in the US in 2016 and saw him play 41 shows across 12 different countries to over 1.2 million people, winning rave reviews from both concert-goers and the media. The final run of shows in 2016 concluded with Paul’s headlining performance at the already now legendary Desert Trip festival in the US.
Since visiting Japan with his sold-out 'Out There' Tour in 2015, which involved an historic evening at The Budokan, his new 'One On One' show includes a dazzling re-designed production as well as previously never performed classics from the most beloved catalogue in popular music. The 'One On One'  Tour spans Paul’s entire career – from his earliest work with The Quarrymen through to his most recent collaboration with Kanye West and Rihanna – as well as global treasures from The Beatles, Wings and his solo catalogue – there is no shortage of surprises.
The Paul McCartney live experience is everything any music lover could ever want from a rock show — and so much more: Nearly three hours worth of the greatest moments from the last 50 years of music, dozens of songs that have formed the soundtracks of our lives. Paul and his band have played an unparalleled range of venues and locations: outside the Coliseum in Rome, Moscow's Red Square, Buckingham Palace, The White House, a free show in Mexico for over 400,000 people, the last ever show at San Francisco’s Candlestick Park where The Beatles played their final concert 1966, and even one performance broadcast live into Space! Featuring Paul's band of the last 10+ years – Paul "Wix" Wickens (keyboards), Brian Ray (bass/guitar), Rusty Anderson (guitar) and Abe Laboriel Jr (drums) – the show is never anything short of life-changing.
The 'One On One' Tour features a brand new production, as always, utilising state of the art audio and video technology and to ensure an unforgettable experience from every seat in the house. Employing massive screens, lasers, fireworks and, of course, a staggering selection of the best songs ever written or performed, every Paul McCartney show promises a once in a lifetime evening that transcends and elevates the potential of live music.
Registered members of PaulMcCartney.com will be eligible to buy pre-sale tickets through the website soon. Keep checking back to PaulMcCartney.com for details and for further announcements.

Maybe Sir Paul McCartney is sawing some Norwegian Wood...

The Beatles star, 74, has released photos taken by his late wife Linda during the making of his 1989 solo album Flowers In The Dirt.

As well as using the saw in the studio and playing a trumpet, Macca was snapped with musician Elvis Costello.

A remastered edition of the album is set to come out in March.

Earlier this week, a picture of Sir Paul and former Beatles bandmate Ringo Starr, 76, in a studio sent fans into raptures.

Ringo declared his “love” for his longtime friend and collaborator - and fans swiftly begged them for a proper Beatles reunion.

“Thanks for coming over man and playing great bass. I love you man peace and love,” Ringo tweeted to his 1.46m followers.

Drummer Ringo is working on a solo album at his home studio. Sir Paul was apparently lending a hand on bass.

He shared another photo of the pair with musician Joe Walsh and wrote: “And look out Joe W came out to play. What a day I'm having. Peace and love.”

Ringo’s album will be the follow-up to 2015’s Postcard From Paradise.

The pair last recorded together for Ringo’s Y Not album released in 2010.

Paul McCartney auction limited edition Shure SM58 for charity

Paul McCartney and The Who auction limited edition Shure SM58 for charity
Sarah Sharples
23 February 2017

It’s the world’s most popular microphone, the SM58 Cardioid Dynamic Microphone – and now Shure has partnered with Paul McCartney and The Who to make available at auction a one-time production of 600 serialised graphic painted SM58s.

Paul McCartney and The Who auction limited edition Shure SM58 for charity

All of the proceeds generated from the campaign will go directly toward foundations for which both artists are deeply vested, including Paul McCartney’s Meat Free Monday and The Who’s Teen Cancer America. The serialised microphones will come with graphics specific to each artist.

The Paul McCartney Special Edition 50th Anniversary SM58 will feature cover art from the album Kisses on the Bottom, photographed by Mary McCartney, and The Who Special Edition will feature original artwork from graphic designer Richard Evans, who has been designing The Who’s album covers and promotional visuals since 1976.

Each artist will have 300 SM58 microphones produced for the auction, with serial numbers 11-300 listed for sale at a fixed price. Additionally, Shure will be auctioning off serial numbers 1-10, which feature hand-signed autographs on the microphone handles. The limited edition microphones will be available at auction through eBay for Charity, with 100 per cent of proceeds going directly to each artist’s chosen charity. The SM58 50th Anniversary Artist Edition serves as a commemorative purchase and donation, honouring the decades of world-renowned music these artists have produced and their history of charitable activities.

“Paul McCartney and The Who have created some of the most influential music in our lifetimes, and given their impact on the world, we thought it only appropriate to team up with them to create a special 50th Anniversary edition of the SM58 microphone, which has been used to share their voices with fans of all ages for decades,” says Mark Brunner, vice president of corporate and government relations at Shure. “We also knew that Paul, Roger, and Pete are extremely active in charitable giving, having been major benefactors to, and creators of, charities for quite some time. As such, we’re particularly proud to support the musicians’ charities of choice by donating 100 per cent of the proceeds to each.”

Meat Free Monday was launched by Paul, Mary, and Stella McCartney in 2009 with the aim of raising awareness of the damaging environmental impact of livestock production. The campaign encourages people to help slow climate change, preserve precious natural resources and improve their health by having at least one meat free day each week.

Teen Cancer America was founded in 2012 by Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend, who have been working charitably for teens with cancer in the UK for over 20 years. The goal of the foundation is to help hospitals and healthcare professionals bridge the gap between paediatric and adult oncology care as well as educate and support hospitals and outpatient facilities in the development of specialised units for teens.

“The Shure SM58 has carried my voice to millions around the world over many years, and it still carries millions of voices to audiences every day,” says McCartney. “I am pleased to join with Shure in offering this special edition 50th Anniversary SM58 in support of a charity that is close to the heart of my family – here’s to many more years for both of us.”

Adds Daltrey: “As we take a moment to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the SM58, it’s important to look back on all that we have accomplished as well as the important work that lies ahead – made possible by the power of music and of giving. Shure and the SM58 have played a big part in my career, and we have joined forces on many charitable activities in support of teen cancer treatment thus far. It feels natural that we are working together on this auction in commemoration of this important milestone.”

Paul McCartney’s Monarch of the Glen painting could go on display alongside original masterpiece

It was a commission for Paul McCartney’s Kintyre hideaway that led to the Beatles’ most memorable album cover.

Now Sir Peter Blake’s version of The Monarch Of The Glen, made in the Swinging Sixties, could go on display alongside the 19th-century original if the latter is secured for the nation.

National Galleries of Scotland chiefs have revealed the idea after pop artist Blake, who painted his take on the masterpiece for McCartney’s dining room, recorded a message backing a £4 million fundraising drive to buy Sir Edwin Landseer’s picture.

The National Galleries said it had four weeks to raise the final £750,000 to buy the painting from whisky giant Diageo, which had been poised to auction it off last November until it was asked to consider a “part-purchase, part-deal” gift.

It would have to borrow the Blake painting directly from the former Beatle. It has been hanging for years in his McCartney Productions offices in London.

The work was completed in 1966, shortly before the artist worked on the famous cover of the Beatles’ eighth album, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. The album cover depicted dozens of famous figures, including Bob Dylan, Mae West, Edgar Allan Poe, and Marilyn Monroe.

Blake, who became known as the Godfather of British Pop Art, later worked on album covers with the likes of Paul Weller and The Who, and designed the sleeve for the Band Aid single Do They Know It’s Christmas?

He said: “I met Paul McCartney in 1963 and in 1964 he asked if he could buy or commission a painting from me. He had just got the Mull of Kintyre [property] and had bought a painting of Highland cattle in a stream.

“I said: ‘Let’s do a picture to match that and I’ll draw a nice stag for you.’ The best stag ever is the Landseer painting The Monarch Of The Glen. I did it in acrylic, which is incredibly stupid, because to get all that mistiness in a paint which dries very quickly is very difficult. It would’ve been much easier to do it in oil paint.”

Referring to the Landseer original, Blake said: “For many years, it was too beautiful, too corny and wasn’t considered to be a great picture, but it has grown to be one. It has earned its right to be a great picture. I very much hope it will stay in Scotland. It’s a national icon.”

Sir John Leighton, National Galleries director-general, said the Pop Art version of the painting had helped revive interest in the 1851 original.

“It’s really nice that the friendship and the artistic connection between Paul McCartney and Peter Blake goes through The Monarch Of The Glen,” he said. “It’s a really unlikely jump from The Monarch Of The Glen to Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

“I know Paul McCartney still has the painting. We’d like to be able to get it on loan. We weren’t able to do it in the time that we have at the moment, but we’d like to do that at some point in the future. It would be nice to put them on display together.”

Stella McCartney hit a cab driver's car and drove off without giving him her details.

The fashion designer, 45, has since apologised after she left the scene without handing over contact information.

Stella, who is said to be worth £35million, was driving her Mini Cooper convertible in Hammersmith, West London, through heavy traffic when she pranged Arash Nabezadeh's car from behind.

But when he started filming her as she got back into her car, she appeared to panic and told him to take her licence plate number before driving off.

"Just do whatever you need to do. Take the number of my licence plate. Do whatever you need to do, no problem," she told him - assuming he could file a claim from her licence plate - in video footage obtained by The Sun.

He then followed the designer to a nearby school to try and get her details and there she reportedly accused him of harassing her.

When Arash pointed out that she had refused to give her details to him, Stella replied: “I know, you were filming! You’re filming now! Would you stop filming!”

The designer eventually took his number and the following day he received a call from her husband who passed on details of their insurance broker and the necessary details to make a claim.

Arash, who said he hasn't been able to drive since the incident and has lost out on earnings, told the newspaper: “She’s very wealthy. She shouldn’t have done this to me. It’s very unfair.”

Stella’s spokesman said: “Ms McCartney has never been in this type of incident before. Although she and the taxi driver did not swap full details, Ms McCartney thought an insurance claim could be made from the licence plate number she was happy to provide and knew the driver had a note of.

“She thought she had done the right thing. When the driver, with two passengers, started filming her she felt intimidated - particularly when she realised they had followed her to the kids’ school, still filming her.

“She accepts liability for the incident and is very apologetic for any issues that have arisen.”

The two surviving members of the Beatles have recorded music together for the first time in seven years.

Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr released pictures of themselves in Starr’s home studio over the weekend. McCartney will be making a guest appearance on Starr’s latest record, a follow-up to 2015’s Postcards from Paradise.

Starr took to Twitter to thank his former bandmate for joining him in the studio. “Thanks for coming over man and playing great bass,” Starr wrote. “I love you man – peace and love.”

Also joining the former Beatles in the studio was Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh, who Starr said had “come out to play”.

Bruce Sugar, who is producing Starr’s latest album, posted a photo of him with McCartney and Starr on Facebook, with the caption: “Magical day in the studio today with these two.”

It is the first time since 2010 that the pair have collaborated to make music, when McCartney played bass on Starr’s track Peace Dream, and contributed his vocals to Walk With You.

Starr confirmed he was working on a new record last year, but said a release date was still not scheduled.

Yoko Ono turns 84 today (February 18th), and while many remember her for being the wife of the late John Lennon, Ono is a revered performance artist in her own right.  In honor of Ono’s birthday, here’s three very different (and very unique) performance art pieces from her.

“Cut Piece”
This is one of Ono’s most notable performances form 1965 where she sat on stage in a black dress with a pair of scissors and invited members of the audience to cut off parts of her dress.

“Voice Piece For  Soprano & Wish Tree”
Here Ono is in 2010 at an exhibit at New York City’s Museum of Modern Art.

“Sky Piece To Jesus Christ”
Lastly, here’s Ono at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in 2013 doing an “Action Piece” painting.  (Around the 7:35 mark.)

The New York Times ran a lengthy profile on Dirty Projectors' Dave Longstreth today, ahead of the release date for a quasi-solo, self-titled new album. As Stereogum points out, the article finds Longstreth sharing some stories from his time recording with Kanye West during some of the sessions leading up to The Life of Pablo.

Longstreth was a writer on Kanye's Paul McCartney and Rihanna collab "FourFiveSeconds," and as the interview reveals, he was also around for sessions—both in L.A. and Mexico—that recruited "motley creative brain trusts" including Vampire Weekend's Ezra Koenig, French Montana, The Weeknd, Big Sean, Rhymefest and others.

During one of those sessions, Longstreth recalls, Ye shared a tape of he and McCartney improvising on keys and vocals. The recording, which featured some "gibberish" and a line that sounded a little like "Memories can get you in trouble," became a jumping off point for him and Koenig to expand the idea into a song.

Unfortunately, the song was shelved, at least for the time being. “Kanye didn’t wind up using it, but it was good," Longstreth said. "Maybe something will come of it down the line.”

Dirty Projectors' album, which features a very good, Solange-assisted D∆WN collab, "Cool Your Heart," drops February 24.

Dirty Projectors’ Dave Longstreth reveals that the collaboration between the artists

Kanye West Paul McCartney Dirty Projectors Ezra Koenig song

A song featuring Kanye West, Paul McCartney, Dirty Projectors and Vampire Weekend‘s Ezra Koenig was allegedly recorded by Dirty Projectors’ Dave Longstreth.

McCartney previously teamed up with Kanye West for the collaborative song ‘FourFiveSeconds’ which also featured Rihanna. The bridge was written by Dirty Projectors’ Dave Longstreth.

Longstreth has revealed in a New York Times interview that this wasn’t the only song penned during the Kanye West sessions. During one sit-down, West played Longstreth and Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig an improvised track composed of McCartney’s Wurlitzer noodling and some improvised West lyrics.

Longstreth heard the phrase “Memories can get you into trouble” and went off with Koenig to turn it into a song. “Maybe you’re with your girlfriend but thinking of your ex,” Longstreth said of its possible use. “Kanye didn’t wind up using it,” he added, “but it was good—maybe something will come of it down the line.”

Meanwhile, Sia has called on Kanye West to go fur free during the debut of his new fashion line at his Yeezy Season 5 show.

Taking to Twitter, Sia wrote; “Dear @kanyewest would you consider going fur free? This is the reality of fur for fashion – it’s so sad.” She added a YouTube video called ‘Under the Fur Coats: Rabbits’ Screams of Death’ to the tweet. You can see the tweet below.

Last June, Sia made the same plea to Kim Kardashian on Twitter with the same video. In December, after Azealia Banks posted a video cleaning out a wardrobe covered in what appeared to be chicken remains, Sia tweeted, “Sacrificing animals for your gain is the wackest shit I’ve ever heard. Get ahead by being awesome, kind and working hard.”
