PaulMcCartney.com Redevelopment Update

www.paulmccartney.com

Hi everyone,

This blog update has come a little later than we’d hoped but we have exciting news for you, and we also want you to help us decide something very important.
But, first things first... During our questionnaire at the beginning of the year you told us the second most important thing you wanted adding to the website - after personal updates from Paul which are now happening each month in the feature ‘You Gave Me The Answer’ - was to get details on pre-sale tickets.

Taking your direction we worked together with Crowd Surge to create a new secure mechanism for registered fans to purchase pre-sale tickets. Many of you will have already used this new process to buy your tickets for Paul’s “Out There” tour. To ensure the smooth running of each pre-sale we were online to answer questions and give advice on the Maccaboard, as well as on Facebook and Twitter. We were seeing hundreds of messages from happy fans who had bought their tickets to the gigs. There were a few teething problems but as and when these occurred we had a team of developers on hand to help fix them and we are happy to say that overall the pre-sale was a great success and this mechanism is now ready to use for all future pre-sales.

Now, the exciting news is that you will be able to see the results of our months of hard work on the website very soon. We are looking to launch the redeveloped site at the start of the summer and will continue to work on it with you throughout the year. In the summer launch you will be getting your website profiles back including your friends, profile wall posts as well as your private messages. Pioneer Members will also be retaining their status.

We will be publishing answers to several more of your questions soon but we would like you to help us decide something. We will be bringing the Maccaboard into the website, rather than it continuing to exist as a separate entity, and it will be updated. But we must stress, please do not worry, you will not lose any of your posts or details and everything you can do on there now you will still be able to do in future. Our question to you is this:

Do you want the Maccaboard and website to operate using one single sign in, or do you want to keep them separate? We can see the pros and cons for both options so decided the best thing to do was to ask you. There are two options:

• Merge your Maccaboard and website accounts so all of your posts and details are brought together into one single sign in?
• Or keep the two sign ins separate?

We are very mindful of taking your lead on this as we want you to be completely happy with how the social side of the website develops. As before we’ve set up a survey for you to voice your opinion so vote for your preference by clicking HERE! The poll will remain open until mid-day (UK time) on Friday 7th June.

AS a keen photographer there was no surprise that he spent so much of his time on the Rock snapping away.
But sadly Julian Lennon only had five hours to best conjure up his own image of the fascinating enclave where he currently has an exhibition running on his father John Lennon’s life.
At a gala lunch with First Minister Fabian Picardo at the top of the Rock in Monte Calpe Suites, he told Olive Press editor Jon Clarke, how much he had enjoyed the visit.
“It’s an amazing place and I definitely need to come back to appreciate it,” he said.
“You really feel on top of the world up here.”
Arriving by private jet, he spent five hours touring the enclave before taking a quick visit of the Beatles Memorabilia exhibition, which was put together with his mother Cynthia.
He revealed that the collection had come about because not many of his father’s belongings were handed down to him.
“When I started making some money after working hard myself in this industry, I decided to start collecting,” he explained. “Initially collecting more personal items – like the monkey bike (which is on display in the exhibition), items I remember being around at the time. Those I remember touching, feeling and knowing about those elements.”
He continued: “I started collecting the gold discs and a few other things, I think we now have the full American collection of gold discs, so for me it was important not just to have that just under my roof – so to speak – but so that should I have children in the future I could pass that on to them.”
Jovial in a white Dolce & Cabbana jacket and jeans, Julian was intrigued to hear about his father’s time spent in Almeria in the 1970s, where he famously wrote Strawberry Fields Forever.
“Is that right? I don’t know much about his time here, but I would definitely like to find out more,” he said.
The Beatles Memorabilia exhibition is on show in Casemates Square.

Paul McCartney's "Out There" tour stopped at Tulsa's BOK Center on Wednesday for the first of a two-night stint celebrating the arena's fifth birthday.

He gave his fans what they came for, with a set including nearly three dozen hits over 2 1/2 hours.

Fans shot to their feet, clapping and cheering, as McCartney blasted into "Eight Days a Week."

Grown women cried. Their husbands held them tight as McCartney let loose the soundtrack of rock 'n' roll history.

"Hey, Tulsa, Oklahoma! I have a feeling we're going to have a little bit of fun here tonight!" the former Beatle yelled.

Video of the Fab Four - McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr - looped behind him on huge screens as he bopped through "All My Loving."

An elaborate, high-definition, synchronized light show and live video amplified McCartney to fit his larger-than-life stature. He hit Wings, the funky "Listen to What the Man Said," and rock-riffy "Let Me Roll It," his four-piece supporting band in harmony.

His voice strong, his stature strait-backed, the affable British Invasion pioneer thanked the crowd for the warm welcome, then thanked them for "having me back."

He told of his love for historic Route 66 and his travels through Oklahoma in an old '80s Bronco with his wife, Nancy, hitting the dives and the "posh spots" along the way.

McCartney also noted the wide span of ages in the audience, from "people my age to their children and their children's children."

New and old melded, time forgotten, with songs including "My Valentine," "The Long and Winding Road," "Maybe I'm Amazed," "We Can Work it Out" and several songs at his grand piano, such as "Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five" and "Another Day."

"Paperback Writer" was rowdier, louder and tighter than any version I've ever heard - McCartney in his element, beaming, his guitarists swinging their instruments in front of oversize amps for distortion, the crowd ecstatic. "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" pinwheeled with happiness, the crowd pogo-dancing and singing the chorus without any lead from McCartney.

Much of this production is unlike his previous tours. It has bigger, deeper tracks and brilliant, often psychedelic video imagery that spans his career.

The set grew and grew, including "Lady Madonna," "All Together Now," "Lovely Rita" (the first time he's played the song in Oklahoma, he said), "Mrs. Vanderbilt," "Eleanor Rigby," "Back in the U.S.S.R.," "Live and Let Die," "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!" "Band on the Run" and "And I Love Her." On it went.

He played his soul-etching lament of American civil rights struggles in the 1960s, "Blackbird," just him and a guitar. A woman handed a packet of tissues down an aisle, eyes moist. Down the aisle it went until it was nearly empty.

There were tributes to Beatles who have passed, John and George, with "Here Today," written about his love for the band's famed co-writer John Lennon, and "Something," written by George Harrison and often named by McCartney as one of the best songs Harrison ever wrote.

And with another concert - one to raise funds for tornado relief in central Oklahoma - happening at the same time down the turnpike in Oklahoma City, McCartney gave a nod to those who were affected.

"We would like to dedicate this song to those here who have suffered through the recent tragedy in Oklahoma," he said as he took to his piano for the emotive "Let it Be" amid a standing ovation.

The fans: Fans from near and far, young and old, filled the BOK Center for the show.

Adrian Caliman, 35, of Argentina flew in Monday to catch both of McCartney's Tulsa concerts. He's seen the iconic musician before - in Las Vegas, Miami and Madrid.

"This was like my birthday present to myself," he said, as No. 36 is coming up fast in July.

McCartney's music legacy spans more than five decades and as many generations, from The Beatles to Wings to a long solo career, and fans of all ages came to experience it.

Outside early and waiting with their grandparents, Marley Sims, 4, and Riley Sims, 9, sat with Steve and Darlene Sims of Sand Springs, who are 64 and 61 respectively.

"Riley was mad when we saw Paul in 2009 and we didn't take him," Steve Sims said.

His wife chimed in: "He knows every lyric to every Beatles song. He has for years. We promised we'd take him with us if Paul ever came back. Here we are."

Added Steve Sims, "Marley wasn't around the first time he was here, but she wanted to come with her brother."

Teenage friends Ryan Sparks and Haley Jackson, both 16 and from Oklahoma City, were brought to the show by their parents, but "they just dropped us off," Sparks said.

And the rain and storms that had been forecast? "Nothing was going to stop us," Jackson said. "We just left earlier."

Sparks' father introduced him to the music of The Beatles.

"But Ryan took it to something completely new," Jackson said. "He's taught me so much more about The Beatles and Paul McCartney. I had to go to this show. He's such a legend!"

Sparks added: "After tonight, I can die. It doesn't get better than Paul McCartney!"

Minnie Dombrovski, 9, and her father, Daniel Dombrovski, 38, of Claremore came to the show because, as Minnie said, "I've been a fan of him ... forever!"

Her ticket was an end-of-school-year gift, said Daniel Dombrovski, who boasts ownership of the complete Beatles anthology.

"She listens to the Beatles all the time," he said. "She's hip to Wings. ... She knows it all."

When asked if Minnie listens to classic rock 'n' roll with her father, she said, "No. In my room."

Dad added with a grin: "Over and over and over."

"Did you know that Ringo had the biggest nose in the entire world?" she asked matter-of-factly.

Minnie pulled straight her T-shirt, screen printed with the Beatles logo.

The only other live band concert she's seen is 1964, the official Beatles tribute band.

She's hard-core, and she was here to hear McCartney's Wings tune "Band on the Run." And she did.

Governor declares May 29 Paul McCartney Day in Oklahoma

Governor declares May 29 Paul McCartney Day in Oklahoma

MAY 29, 2013

Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin has declared May 29 as Paul McCartney Day in the State of Oklahoma as part of the festivities surrounding McCartney’s back-to-back concerts at the BOK Center May 29 and 30, the venue announced Tuesday.
The proclamation highlights McCartney’s career as the most successful composer and recording artist of all time for having sold over 100 million albums and 100 million singles. McCartney was also “recognized as a true philanthropist promoting international charities related to causes such as animal rights, poverty and music education,” the venue said.
“We worked in conjunction with Governor Fallin to roll out a warm welcome for Sir Paul,” said SMG General Manager John Bolton. “We are incredibly honored to have him back at the BOK Center to help us celebrate our fifth anniversary. We couldn’t have asked for a better way to mark this milestone.”
The concerts are part of the BOK Center’s fifth anniversary celebration. McCartney also headlined the BOK Center’s first anniversary concert in 2009 and was given a day in his honor that year by then-Gov. Brad Henry.
In addition to the proclamation, the BOK Center and the City of Tulsa have recently honored McCartney by naming several streets near the venue with temporary Beatles-related names. The streets include Abbey Road (3rd Street), Penny Lane (Denver Ave.) Blackbird Blvd (1st Street) and All Together Crossing (Frisco).
SMG Tulsa, which runs BOK Center, also commissioned McCartney street banners to surround the BOK Center and the Tulsa Convention Center and the digital marquee on the city's Denver Avenue will display a McCartney welcome message throughout the week.
Tickets for available for both the May 29 show and the May 30 show.
Last week, McCartney revealed he had written letters of support to officials in Russia for members of the group Pussy Riot.

Q&A with Mary McCartney: Vegetarian for the family

www.amny.com
Q&A with Mary McCartney: Vegetarian for the family
By GEORGIA KRAL

At a young age, Mary McCartney was introduced to the world of vegetarianism by her mother, Linda McCartney. Her father is Paul McCartney (yes, that one) and according to her recently published cookbook, “Food: Vegetarian Home Cooking,” he played a role in spurring her love of vegetarian food in particular.

McCartney says she is a photographer, not a professional cook, and her book is filled with her beautiful photographs of the dishes she lovingly creates.

She spoke with us about vegetarian cooking.

When did you first fall in love with food? Growing up watching my mother cooking was a magical process. The smells that would drift in from the kitchen were tantalizing. I always loved it when my mum would bake banana bread. Yum.

Why is healthy, vegetarian food important to you? I love food that tastes satisfying but also has a sense of indulgence. I love creating meals that have great health values and are really tasty.

Is it ever a struggle to convince your kids to eat vegetarian? How can parents teach their kids to eat better food? It is not a struggle … as I think ahead to cook recipes that I am content will deliver the health element I want them to have, but that they will enjoy eating. I make them soups that I blend, so they don’t consider the amount of vegetables or white beans they are consuming. I don’t like to debate over how much they need to eat. I just want them to eat it and enjoy it.

What do you hope to achieve with the cookbook? A lot of people I know are looking to reduce their meat consumption, but find it a bit daunting thinking of meat-free meals. I wanted to take that stress away. These recipes have been created to be tasty and easy to prepare, so that cooking can be an enjoyable experience.

Are there any foods you don’t cook with? I do not cook much with Brussels sprouts! They are my least favorite vegetable. Although I did try a grated Brussels sprouts coleslaw with a tangy lemon dressing, which was fantastic, so I may start making that.

What’s your advice for the beginner cook who wants to cook simply and vegetarian, as you do? Start out following recipes that are easy to follow. Soups are a great way to start cooking.
