Today marks the fifth anniversary of Paul’s intimate performance at the Amoeba Music store in Los Angeles in 2007.

The gig was part of Paul’s promo shows for the release of ‘Memory Almost Full’. Other dates on the whistle-stop tour included performances at the Electric Ballroom in London and at the Highline Ballroom in New York.

Paul treated fans at the music store to a 20 song set drawing from all points in his career and included ‘Only Mama Knows', ‘Dance Tonight’, ‘That Was Me’, ‘Nod Your Head’ and ‘House Of Wax’ from the ‘Memory Almost Full’ album. In attendance at the show were Ringo Starr and wife Barbara Bach, actor Woody Harrelson and singer Alanis Morissette.

A four track live EP from the gig was released shortly afterwards titled ‘Amoeba’s Secret’ and featuring ‘Only Mama Knows', ‘C Moon’, ‘That Was Me’ and ‘I Saw Her Standing There’. Fans can pick up a copy of the EP HERE!

Highlights from the Amoeba show can be seen below in a video from the time.

Meat Free Monday – 3 Years Old This Month

www.paulmccartney.com

Meat Free Monday is three years old this month. The campaign was launched back in June 2009 by Paul, Mary and Stella as a simple and straightforward idea to show everyone the value of eating less meat.

By giving up meat for one day each week you can reduce your environmental impact, save money and live a healthier life.

In 2006, a United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization report, Livestock’s Long Shadow, highlighted the environmental impact of meat-eating and the importance of making more environmentally and socially conscious food choices.

The campaign does not ask you to give up meat completely, but encourages you to do your bit to help protect our planet. By joining together in having one meat-free day each week you’ll be making great steps towards reducing the environmental problems associated with the meat industry. You’ll also be giving your own health a boost and, with the added benefit that vegetables cost less than meat, having one meat-free day each week means it’s good for your pocket too.

Discover the stories behind some of the most definitive musicians of our generation with our series of music biographies. The first is John Lennon: The Life - Volume 1 by Philip Norman.

John Lennon - The Life
John Lennon: The Life - Volume 1 by Philip Norman

For more than a quarter of a century, Philip Norman's internationally bestselling 'Shout!' has been unchallenged as the definitive biography of the Beatles. Now, at last, Norman turns his formidable talent to the Beatle for whom belonging to the world's most beloved pop group was never enough. Drawing on previously untapped sources, and with unprecedented access to all the major characters, here is the most complete and revealing portrait of John Lennon that is ever likely to be published.
Honest and unflinching, as John himself would wish, Norman gives us the whole man in all his endless contradictions - tough and cynical, hilariously funny but also naïve, vulnerable and insecure - and reveals how the mother who gave him away as a toddler haunted his mind and his music for the rest of his days.

CONDORI BEATLES

PAUL McCARTNEY: THE RONNIE WOOD SHOW 2012

The Beatles Live in America: 16mm Color Live Concert Footage (1964)

The Beatles toured internationally in June. Staging thirty-two concerts over nineteen days in Denmark, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand, they were ardently received at every venue. Starr was in hospital after a tonsillectomy for the first half of the tour, and Jimmie Nicol sat in on drums. In August they returned to the US, with a thirty-concert tour of twenty-three cities. Generating intense interest once again, the month-long tour attracted between ten and twenty thousand fans to each thirty-minute performance in cities from San Francisco to New York. However, their music could hardly be heard. On-stage amplification at the time was modest compared to modern-day equipment, and the band's small Vox amplifiers struggled to compete with the volume of sound generated by screaming fans. Forced to accept that neither they nor their audiences could hear the details of their performance, the band grew increasingly bored with the routine of concert touring.

At the end of the August tour they were introduced to Bob Dylan in New York at the instigation of journalist Al Aronowitz. Visiting the band in their hotel suite, Dylan introduced them to cannabis. Music historian Jonathan Gould points out the musical and cultural significance of this meeting, before which the musicians' respective fanbases were "perceived as inhabiting two separate subcultural worlds": Dylan's core audience of "college kids with artistic or intellectual leanings, a dawning political and social idealism, and a mildly bohemian style" contrasted with The Beatles' core audience of "veritable 'teenyboppers'—kids in high school or grade school whose lives were totally wrapped up in the commercialised popular culture of television, radio, pop records, fan magazines, and teen fashion. They were seen as idolaters, not idealists." Within six months of the meeting, "Lennon would be making records on which he openly imitated Dylan's nasal drone, brittle strum, and introspective vocal persona." Within a year, Dylan would "proceed, with the help of a five-piece group and a Fender Stratocaster electric guitar, to shake the monkey of folk authenticity permanently off his back"; "the distinction between the folk and rock audiences would have nearly evaporated"; and The Beatles' audience would be "showing signs of growing up."

Capitol Records' lack of interest throughout 1963 had not gone unnoticed, and a competitor, United Artists Records, encouraged United Artists' film division to offer The Beatles a motion picture contract in the hope that it would lead to a record deal. Directed by Richard Lester, A Hard Day's Night had the group's involvement for six weeks in March--April 1964 as they played themselves in a boisterous mock-documentary of The Beatles' phenomenon. The film premiered in London and New York in July and August, respectively, and was an international success. The Observer's reviewer, Penelope Gilliatt, noted that "the way The Beatles go on is just there, and that's it. In an age that is clogged with self-explanation this makes them very welcome. It also makes them naturally comic." According to Allmusic, the accompanying soundtrack album, A Hard Day's Night, saw The Beatles "truly coming into their own as a band. All of the disparate influences on their first two albums had coalesced into a bright, joyous, original sound, filled with ringing guitars." That "ringing guitar" sound was primarily the product of Harrison's 12-string electric Rickenbacker, a prototype given him by the manufacturer, which made its debut on the record. Harrison's ringing 12-string inspired Roger McGuinn, who obtained his own Rickenbacker and used it to craft the trademark sound of The Byrds.

Beatles for Sale, the band's fourth studio album, saw the emergence of a serious conflict between commercialism and creativity. Recorded between August and October 1964, the album had been intended to continue the format established by A Hard Day's Night which, unlike the band's first two LPs, had contained no cover versions. Acknowledging the challenge posed by constant international touring to the band's songwriting efforts, Lennon admitted, "Material's becoming a hell of a problem". Six covers from their extensive repertoire were included on the album. Released in early December, its eight self-penned numbers nevertheless stood out, demonstrating the growing maturity of the material produced by the Lennon-McCartney partnership.

The Beatles at their Best

Made primarily from photos, video clips and interviews all found on the Internet, many only recently available, "The Beatles at their Best" provides viewers with the opportunity to meet The Beatles at the time that John Lennon says they were at their best.

"We were at our best when we were playing in the dance halls of Liverpool and Hamburg. The world never saw that." - John Lennon

The Best family home gave birth to The Beatles and Pete Best's "Atom Beat" became the new Liverpool sound. When Pete joined the Beatles, they were a bum band nobody wanted. A year later they were the #1 band in two different cities in two different countries. They had released a single recorded in Hamburg Germany and on the second anniversary of the group, were recording their British debut, "Love Me Do". They were already well on their way to superstardom and Pete Best was the most popular member of the group.

The summer of 2012 marks the 50th anniversary of The Beatles decision to replace original drummer Pete Best with Ringo Starr during the recording of "Love Me Do", the Fab Four's first hit record. It is also the 50th anniversary of the closing of the legendary Casbah Coffee Club. The Casbah was the launching pad of The Beatles and the entire Merseybeat sound, events that forever changed the world.

"I think it's a good idea to let people know about The Casbah. They know about The Cavern, they know about some of those things, but The Casbah was the place where all that started." - Paul McCartney

To commemorate these anniversaries, the critically acclaimed short film The Beatles at their Best, best documentary winner at the 2011 New England Underground Film Festival, made its final festival showing this June 23, 2012 at the Philadelphia Independent Film Festival and now is offered free to the public via YouTube.

When it is finally finished, it will be more than a film. It will be an index movie. Viewers will be able to watch it and then 'click' on it at anytime to be redirected to the source material it contains. A full crediting of all of the content will be made available at www.TheUltimateTrip.net. You can help by sending information to Press@TheUltimateTrip.net.

"The Beatles at their Best" is the true story you've probably never heard about the group you thought you knew everything about!!!

Enjoy!
