Paul joins Campaign To Save Twickenham Film Studios

Julie Walters, Steven Spielberg, Paul McCartney And Colin Firth Back Campaign To Save Twickenham Film Studios
Posted: 28/03/2012
Actress Julie Walters has fired off an email to the Business Secretary urging him to step in to keep a top film studio open, insisting its planned closure will affect the country's movie industry.
Twickenham Film Studios, which has hosted shoots for The Iron Lady, War Horse and The Beatles' movies A Hard Day's Night and Help!, has gone into administration and will be gradually wound down by June.
Gerald Krasner, who is handling the administration, recently revealed to the BBC the business has lost money over the past three years and added: "I doubt it will be retained as a film studio. We are selling it on."
News of the studio's expected closure has garnered the support of Steven Spielberg, Sir Paul McCartney and Colin Firth - and Harry Potter star Walters has taken direct action by contacting Business Secretary Vincent Cable, the Member of Parliament for Twickenham.
In an email, she writes: "The closing down of these studios will give Hollywood one message that the British film industry is struggling, when it is not."
McCartney tells London's Evening Standard: "I have many fond memories of working at Twickenham Studios. It's a fine example of a British film studio and it would be a great loss if it were to have nothing more to do with the British film industry."

A night of tears and triumph at the Royal Albert Hall!
The regal surroundings of London's Royal Albert Hall were rocked to their core last night (on their 141st birthday) as Paul McCartney put on a show to remember in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust. After the audience was moved by footage of some extraordinarily brave people, Paul was determined to give a performance to raise further funds for the charity. The audience was in for an extra special treat seeing Paul in a venue far smaller and more intimate than the arenas he played earlier this month and he duly delivered an unforgettable set list packed with classic hits. It was Paul's first performance at the Royal Albert Hall since George Harrison's tribute concert in 2002.
As an extra special treat for the audience Paul was joined on stage for 'Get Back' by Ronnie Wood, Paul Weller and Roger Daltrey.

Macca’s cancer mission
By GORDON SMART, Showbiz Editor
Published: 27th March 2012
SIR PAUL McCARTNEY has re-arranged his world tour to bring his arena show to a charity concert in London on Thursday night.
The Beatles man booked extra shows on the Continent this week so he could easily get to London for the Teenage Cancer Trust event at the Royal Albert Hall, avoiding costly disruption to his tour.
The Who's Roger Daltrey, organising the annual charity event, said: "Sir Paul has been brilliant. We almost got him last year but he couldn't make the date work.
"He said, 'I'll be there for you next year, Rog' – and here he is.
"He did a few extra shows in Europe to make it work so no one had to foot the bill of getting his show here – and that means a lot.
"To see his full arena show in the Albert Hall will be a once-in-a-lifetime thing.
"He's the most iconic figure in the world."
Good on Macca – it's a great cause.

Zurich goes wild for Macca
Paul brought Zurich to a standstill tonight with a staggering show at the city's Hallenstadion, which saw fans travel from across Switzerland for the much-anticipated concert. Paul has only performed five shows in Switzerland since he first played there in 1972 and hasn't visited there since his '04 Summer' tour back in 2004, so tonight's concert was long overdue for the delighted Swiss fans. Performing on an immense stage, Paul ensured the wait had been well worth it as he played an incredible set list that spanned his entire career, featuring highlights from The Beatles, Wings and his unrivalled solo material including tracks from his latest album 'Kisses On The Bottom'.

Paul McCartney was greeted to a deafening reception last night as he played an amazing three hour long set at the Ahoy in Rotterdam. Fans were in fine voice throughout the show, singing along to every track and giving Paul a welcome he will never forget. The show was his first in Holland since 2009 when he visited the country on his "Good Evening Europe Tour". In total, Paul has played there 12 times since first performing there as a solo artist in 1972. Since then, the sheer scale of Paul's touring operation has grown immeasurably. Behind the 80 ft high stage at last night concert, there were ten working offices and six dressing rooms as well as entirely vegetarian catering who serve around 480 meals yesterday.

Last year saw Paul make headline news when he brought his epic Up and Coming tour to a dramatic finale with two massive stadium shows in Rio, Brazil playing to over 100,000 people. His 'Up and Coming' tour was seen by nearly half a million people across South America over a handful of special dates. Makeshift fan-made McCartney villages sprung up everywhere the tour went, with fans celebrating the music and life of Paul as they camped outside stadiums days in advance waiting for the doors to open to get the best possible positions inside the venues. Following weeks of excited speculation and internet rumours, today Paul confirms that he is taking his new 'On The Run' tour to South America this April.
On April 15th, Paul will make his first ever visit to Uruguay. If previous visits are anything to go by, Montevideo can expect to make headline news. Paul has played a truly staggering range of venues and locations. From pub gigs to huge outdoor parks and stadiums; Paul has even played into Space, outside the Coliseum in Rome, in Moscow's Red Square and at the White House to name just a few. In recent years, Paul's live shows have even acquired a new legendary status, garnering unprecedented reviews from fans and critics alike wherever he goes.
Paul will also be returning to Brazil with a show in Florianopolis on April 25th, almost exactly twelve months since his last visit, which brought Rio to a standstill and saw over 1.5 million people tune in online to watch the first ever concert to be broadcast live on the internet across South America.
Nearly two years to the day after setting the record for the fastest-selling show in the country's history, Paul will then return to Mexico for the tour's first date in the territory; Saturday 5th May at Estadio Omnilife in Guadalajara. The Guadalajara date will be Paul's first visit to Mexico since his Up And Coming Tour in 2010. It was the first of that tour's two shows at Mexico City's Foro Sol Stadium on the 27th May 2010 that shattered records, as 60,000 tickets were snapped up in within mere minutes of going on sale. Sources at Ticketmaster Mexico speculated that tickets could have gone even more quickly had technology been able to keep up with the overwhelming demand. A second show was added on 28th May 2010 and both shows instantly became the stuff of local legend, along with Paul's 2002 three-night stand at the Palacio de los Deportes and his first visit on 1993's New World Tour, and deservedly so. It's unlikely that Mexico will ever experience such enthusiastic sing-a-longs and impressive synchronized cigarette lighter work again - that is, until Paul returns in May!
The epic three- hour show features music that spans Paul's entire career and unique back catalogue. Speaking about the forthcoming show Paul said:
"I love South America. We've had such fun there on our recent visits. The people and audiences are so passionate and musical. The enthusiasm is mind blowing and we are looking forward to getting back out there to play and party!"
Over fifty years into his career, he continues to push boundaries, perform to millions and make global news with countless monumental shows.

PAUL McCARTNEY ROCKS IN THE NETHERLANDS
www.zelfkrantmaken.nl
1. Too Many People Afkomstig van het album Ram uit 1971. 2. Monkberry Moon Delight Eveneens van het album Ram.
The Mess B-kantje van My Love. 6. Band On The Run
7. Jet Dezelfde motivatie als de vorige. 8. Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five De afsluiter van het album Band On The Run, en één van mijn meest favoriete McCartney
nummers.
