INTERNATIONAL GREEN AWARDS

Sir Paul McCartney – Musician; UK

Sir Paul McCartneySir Paul McCartney has long been on the radar as a celebrity who takes his responsibility towards planet earth very seriously. He has used his status as one of the world’s greatest musicians of all time to promote green issues especially animal rights.

He has been an advocate of vegetarianism for years and as a PETA ambassador his involvement is twofold: Promoting animal rights and also creating awareness around the carbon footprint which animals reared for consumption generate.

With a strong influence from his late wife Linda who pioneered making vegetarian food acceptable, he and his two daughters Stella and Mary McCartney head up the ‘Meat Free  Monday’ Campaign. The quest of which is “to get us all dropping meat out of our diets for just one day a week” generating a host of benefits including a healthier lifestyle, dramatically reducing our environmental impact and saving money.

Still a musician at heart, Sir Paul last year headlined at the ‘Green’ Isle of Wight Festival 2010, which used bio-diesel and solar to power the festival.

This year, Sir Paul joined fellow celebrities in the new BUAV (British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection) campaign to end animal testing for cosmetic products sold in Europe. Paul has created a buzz and energy around sustainability and animal rights issues which only a true legend of our times is capable of.

New documentaries on Neil Young and Paul McCartney will have their world premieres at this year's Toronto film festival.
Neil Young Life, a documentary on the Toronto-born musician's Le Noise solo tour, directed by Jonathan Demme, will join The Love We Make, Albert Maysles's film about Paul McCartney's performance at the Concert for New York City, in the festival's Mavericks strand.
Maysles's film follows the former Beatle as he prepares to perform at a 9/11 benefit concert in New York. Organised by McCartney in the wake of the attacks on the Twin Towers, the Concert for New York City featured performances from David Bowie, Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, all of whom appear in the film. "It was an honour to be able to help New York and America at that time in its history," said McCartney in July this year. "There was a feeling of shock and fear in the air that I thought we could help alleviate with music."
Demme's Neil Young film – his second concert film on the folk-rock singer – follows Young on a tour of Ontario that culminates in a homecoming performance at Toronto's Massey Hall, where Young recorded the critically acclaimed live album Live at Massey Hall 1971. The documentary one of two new films that Demme is bringing to Toronto. I'm Carolyn Parker: The Good, the Mad and the Beautiful, a documentary following a New Orleans woman through the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, will also have its world premiere at the festival.
The Toronto film festival runs from 8-18 September.

Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you this - a piece of swinging 60s memorabilia that's perfect for day tripping.
This classic Aston Martin DB5 sports car was once owned by Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney and is set to go under the hammer next month.
It was bought by Sir Paul in 1964, the year he wrote hit song Drive My Car, and cost a cool £3,800 10s 0d plus tax of £793 6s 8d.

Now the fully-restored British-built Aston Martin DB5 is expected to fetch £400,000 at auction.
Sir Paul ordered the iconic Aston - made famous by James Bond in the film Goldfinger - direct from Aston Martin's factory before his band's 1964 world tour.
He asked for a string of extra features including special suspension and chrome wire wheels.
When it was delivered, the motor, with a top speed of 150mph, even had the ultimate Bond-style gadget for a 60s pop star - a Philips record player.
Sir Paul used it to drive his then girlfriend Jane Asher around town.
He also gave a memorable lift to the founder of The Byrds Roger McGuinn.
The legendary frontman later recalled: 'The Beatles had come to see one of our gigs and we hung out after the show.
'The next night I went to Paul's club in St James and he took me for a drive around London in his Aston Martin DB5 - it was an amazing time.'

Sir Paul is believed to have the sold luxury four-litre car in 1970, and it has been owned by a string of collectors since.
Sir Paul wasn't the only Beatle with a taste for expensive cars.
Also in 1965, John Lennon famously bought a white Rolls-Royce Phantom V and had it painted in psychedelic colours.
And in 1969 George Harrison bought a Ferrari 365 GTC sports car which went under the hammer last month.

Sir Paul's former car, now grey, will be sold on September 21 at Duxford Imperial War Museum in Cambridgeshire by auctioneers H&H.
Marketing manager for the Cheshire-based firm Richard Caton said: 'The car has undergone an extensive back-to-bare-metal restoration which was completed earlier this year.
'Sir Paul chose the car and its specification and it has had several very careful owners since.
'But it is now a wonderful opportunity for an Aston enthusiast or a Beatle fan to own a unique part of motoring history.'

Sir Paul McCartney knows money can't buy him love, so he's given his American fiancee something far more precious.
The former Beatle, 69, is dedicating his first ballet, Ocean's Kingdom, to Nancy Shevell, 51, whom he will reportedly marry this autumn.
"Nancy is bowled over," says a friend. "Paul is a romantic and after he produced a 1925 Cartier solitaire diamond engagement ring, the ballet tribute was another surprise."
McCartney's ballet, an orchestral love story, has its premiere with New York City Ballet next month.

    ‘Ocean’s Kingdom’

Paul announces ‘Ocean’s Kingdom’, his first orchestral score for dance to be released on 3rd/4th October 2011.
Marking his first foray into the word of dance, Paul has announced the general release of ‘Ocean’s Kingdom’, commissioned by the New York City Ballet. The recording will be released by Decca Records on October 3rd (UK) and Hear Music/Telarc on October 4th (US) and is conducted by John Wilson, produced by John Fraser and performed by The London Classical Orchestra.
‘Ocean’s Kingdom’ is the first time Paul has written an original orchestral score or any kind of music for dance and is the result of a collaboration between Paul and New York City Ballet’s Master in Chief Peter Martins, who have worked together to present the world premiere of a new ballet for the company’s 2011/2012 season this September.
Though the work is Paul’s first ballet, he approached the project in the same way he writes all other music, driven by his heart rather than his head and inspired by feeling rather than specific technical knowledge. While this may have been another new turn for his staggeringly varied career to take, Paul knew it had to be influenced by his own personal experience and that he needed to create a story the audience would find equally compelling and moving.
Paul’s first step was to visit the Royal Opera House to see Adolphe Adam’s ‘Giselle’, danced by the Royal Ballet. Afterwards, Paul met the dancers and discussed the work with them, realising as he did so that he was still without a central theme to his work. Keen to tell a story through his music, Paul decided to focus on the purity of the ocean and within just two months, the first draft had been completed. He then went through the music again thinking specifically of the ballet itself, thereby creating a world featuring distinctive characters and a vibrant underworld kingdom. Finally Paul spent many more weeks working alongside Peter Martins to refine the work, before Peter created the choreography with the NYCB dancers.
An hour long score featuring four stunning movements – Ocean’s Kingdom, Hall of Dance, Imprisonment and Moonrise – the ballet tells of a love story within the story of an underwater world whose people are threatened by the humans of Earth. A potently expressive and richly varied work, the score is Paul’s most challenging and emotionally complex yet. As he explains: “What was interesting was writing music that meant something expressively rather than just writing a song. Trying to write something that expressed an emotion – so you have fear, love, anger, sadness to play with and I found that exciting and challenging.”
The premiere of the ballet ‘Ocean’s Kingdom’ will take place at NYCB’s Fall Gala on Thursday 22nd September 2011 while the release of the orchestral score will follow a month later, available digitally, on CD and on vinyl. It was recorded in June in London.
The artwork that accompanies the release is equally striking and inventive. Though it seems to suggest a city skyline, it is actually a digital readout of the notes from the ballet score.
Although this is his first orchestral score for dance, Paul is already quite at home in the world of classical music. His back catalogue already carries four classical albums, the most recent of which was the Classical BRIT Award winning ‘Ecce Cor Meum (Behold My Heart)’; a work for chorus and orchestra in four movements that was released in 2006.

Half a century on, Beatle makes it on the Decca label

    Published Date: 24 August 2011

HALF a century after the Beatles were famously rejected by record company Decca, Sir Paul McCartney is to make his debut on the label.
The musician's first ballet, Ocean's Kingdom, which receives its premiere next month, is to be released by the company later this year.
Decca rejected the band in 1961 on the grounds that "guitar groups are on the way out" and said they "have no future in show business". Months later, the group signed to Parlophone.
Sir Paul was commissioned by the New York City Ballet to create his new work. The production will premiere in New York on 22 September, with the album, performed by the London Classical Orchestra, to follow in October.

    BEATLES ANTI-PIRACY

Anti-Piracy Campaign Backed By The Beatles

    12:41am UK, Wednesday August 17, 2011

Music by The Beatles is being used to bring a new campaign aimed at fighting illegal downloads to life.

The legendary group, instrumental in the global explosion of 1960s pop culture, is providing the soundtrack to a short film designed to raise awareness of how to consume music responsibly.
The animated film follows the life of a central character, looking at how he grew up listening to The Beatles and how it has marked the various milestones in his life.
Why Music Matters campaigners claim that if there was not a sustainable system in place through the sale of music, that supported and allowed people to have a career, bands like The Beatles may never had existed.
The campaign, which was started in 2010, has already received a high level of support from the music industry.
Cee Lo Green, Ellie Goulding, Dizzie Rascal and Duran Duran's Simon Le Bon voiced their support during the 2011 Brit Awards.

    l-beatles-cartoon
The campaign against piracy includes some iconic animation

It has also attracted widespread support from the music industry – managers, record labels, publishers and retailers.
The campaign asks artists to contribute videos and commentary about the enduring value of music and what it means to them.
Groups such as The Jam, Elbow and Paloma Faith have all backed videos on the campaign's website.
Campaigners say that 95% of downloads are currently illegal and the music industry is keen to expand its fight against piracy.
But technological advances have meant that music is more readily available and accessible than ever before.

In making the announcement, Martins said that he and Paul met at the School of American Ballet’s Winter Gala in 2010 and shortly thereafter began discussing the possibility of working together on a ballet.
“Like the rest of my generation, I grew up being a huge fan of the Beatles so I was thrilled to meet him,” said Martins. “After I got to know him a bit, and knowing of his great love of composing classical music, I asked if he might be interested in doing something for New York City Ballet, and I am ecstatic that he has agreed to write a score for us.”

Paul said: “I am always interested in new directions that I haven’t worked in before. So I became very excited about the idea. When I got back to England after meeting Peter I started writing music and am now in the very final stages of the orchestral score.” He continued, “What was interesting was writing music that meant something expressively rather than just writing a song. Trying to write something that expressed an emotion – so you have fear, love, anger, sadness to play with and I found that exciting and challenging.”

The 22nd September gala performance will also include a special “See the Music…” presentation featuring NYCB Music Director Fayçal Karoui and the New York City Ballet Orchestra, which will open the evening with a unique exploration of the Ocean’s Kingdom score.
Following the World Premiere performance, Ocean’s Kingdom will be performed four additional times during the fall (September 24, 25, 27, and 29), and five times during the 2012 winter season (January 19, 21, 24, 27, and 29).

All performances will take place at the David H. Koch Theater, which is located on the Lincoln Center Plaza at Columbus Avenue and 63rd Street. For general information on tickets for any New York City Ballet performance call 212-870-5570, or visit www.nycballet.com.

10 Things You Might Not Know About Sir Paul
    Russell Hall   08.16.2011
Few lives have been as thoroughly documented as the life of Paul McCartney. Biographies – both of The Beatles and Sir Paul – number in the hundreds, many filled with minute details about the public and private life of the former Beatle. Still, we managed to unearth a few interesting tidbits that may have eluded all but the most avid fans. Feel free to chime in, in the comments section, with interesting McCartney facts we might have missed.
    10. The artist who showed him the option to play guitar left-handed was… Slim Whitman.
McCartney’s father bought him a trumpet for McCartney’s 14th birthday, but the young lad had his dad exchange it for a cheap acoustic. The future Beatle struggled mightily with the instrument until he happened upon a photograph of Slim Whitman, the country yodeler who played guitar lefty-style. McCartney flipped his guitar, modified the string setup, and soon wrote his first song, a ditty titled “I Lost My Little Girl.”
    9. Long before the edict came down from Brian Epstein, McCartney himself insisted that he and Lennon be nattily attired.
In the very first show McCartney did with The Quarrymen, he outfitted the band in matching shirts and string ties. Furthermore, to set himself and Lennon apart from the others, he came up with the idea that the two frontmen should wear matching cream-colored blazers. All of 15 at the time, McCartney muffed his first turn in the spotlight when he botched his featured guitar solo on the Arthur Smith tune, “Guitar Boogie.”
    8. “Yesterday” is the most recorded song in history. But nipping at its heels is a song by… Tony Orlando and Dawn.
According to Guinness World Records, more than 1,600 different cover versions of “Yesterday” have been recorded to date. The popular standard, “Stardust,” ranks second, with more than 1,500 recorded versions. Incredibly, however, the 1973 Tony Orlando and Dawn hit, “Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree,” rates nearly as high, with well over 1,000 recorded versions out there, somewhere.
    7. It was he who salvaged The Beatles’ legendary summit with Elvis Presley.
While in Los Angeles in 1965, The Beatles went to Elvis’s house in Bel Air to meet The King for the first time. According to McCartney biographer Peter Ames, Lennon irritated Presley with talk of Vietnam and by flirting with Elvis’s wife, Priscilla. McCartney saved the day with the words, “Can we play some music?” An impromptu jam ensued (with Elvis on bass) wherein the group played a clutch of Presley hits.
    6. The only instance in which McCartney has utilized a string quartet, other than on “Yesterday,” was on a tribute song he wrote for John Lennon.
String sections have been employed on lots of McCartney’s songs, of course, both with the Beatles and post-Beatles. But with the exception of “Yesterday,” the only time McCartney enlisted a string quartet was on “Here Today,” the moving remembrance of John Lennon he wrote for his 1982 Tug of War album. Tug of War also marked McCartney’s reunion with George Martin, who produced the disc.
    5. One of the first bands he tried to sign to Apple Records was… Chicago.
During a trip to Los Angeles in the spring of 1968, when McCartney was trying to get the newly launched Apple Corps off the ground, he went to the Whisky a Go Go to take in a B.B. King show. An upstart group called Chicago Transit Authority happened to be on the bill as well. Impressed, McCartney tried to recruit them as an Apple band, but alas, the group were already in talks with Columbia Records.
    4. His favorite band at the dawn of 1965 was… The Who.
Released in January 1965, The Who’s “I Can’t Explain” impressed McCartney to the point that he proclaimed The Who his favorite band. Coming at a time when groups like Herman’s Hermits and Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders were dominating the charts, McCartney’s proclamation was remarkably prescient. Throughout that year, The Who would assail the singles charts with soon-to-be classics like “Anyway Anyhow Anywhere” and “My Generation.”
    3. Before they became Wings, McCartney’s post-Beatles band nearly became… a paint thinner.
In August 1971, when he was trying to get his post-Beatles band off the ground, McCartney was having a terrible time coming up with a name for the nascent group. Among the top name-candidates floated were The Dazzlers and, for reasons unknown, Turpentine. Alas, while praying for his wife, Linda, as she was giving birth to their daughter, the image of “wings” kept springing to mind.
    2. He began reversing The Beatles’ “Lennon-McCartney” songwriting designation as early as 1976.
Although The Beatles first album, Please Please Me, featured songs credited to “McCartney-Lennon,” McCartney famously acceded to pressure to henceforth adopt the designation, “Lennon-McCartney.” But when Wings released their live triple-album, Wings Over America, in 1976, McCartney elected to designate the five featured Beatles songs as “McCartney-Lennon” compositions. He continued the practice on other post-Beatles albums.
    1. His 1980 hit, “Coming Up,” was a prime factor in John Lennon’s decision to get back into music.
This charming ditty, from McCartney’s homespun 1980 album, McCartney II, was first heard by Lennon as he was traveling with his assistant, Fred Seaman. The next morning, Lennon confessed to Seaman that he couldn’t get the song’s distinctive riff out of his head. Seaman later said the track stirred the muse in Lennon. “If Paul was writing decent music,” Seaman wrote, in his memoir, “John felt compelled to take up the challenge.”

This summer has seen record breaking heat in the Midwest. Sahara Desert, while wearing a turtleneck sweater in August, hot. But for one night, one lone Thursday evening orphaned from its weekly family of scorch, Mother Nature cooled it down a bit.
On the banks of the Ohio River, metal birds patrolled the sky, helicopters circling above like vultures, while nautical vessels of all proportions inched near the venue, hoping to land prime real estate, perhaps steal the tunes from a neutral position.
For many, the evening began with a cocktail or three, a limo, perhaps a carnivorous feast at one of the famed Jeff Ruby dining experiences. For us, it was Subway, not because we were eating light, but because we had scored great field seats and the college funds of future generations had been breached. But we did not care; not on this night.
Leaving Northern Kentucky on foot, we crossed Cincinnati's Roebling Suspension Bridge the buzz and energy from the other side growing with each step, and within seconds found ourselves at the gates of Great American Ballpark. Home of the Reds Cincinnati.
On this majestic eve in the Queen City, a Knight held court. Sir Paul McCartney.
Like many, I have always respected McCartney. He is a legend as a Beatle, as a Wing, and as a solo artist. He is an icon as a philanthropist, a peace activist, and a man. Like many in the crowd of about 50,000, (which ranged from ages 1-101) I somehow knew every song by heart, an odd caveat from an artist who does not hold residence in my shuffle. Did not hold residence. After this performance, his last in North America on this tour, my respect turned into fanaticism. I was hardly alone.
As we purchased two waters that cost more than dinner, took one final trip to the porta- john, and gazed in awe at the 100,000 eyes peeled towards center field at the grand stage, there he suddenly was. Onstage, on time. Sixty nine years old going on forty five, a genius clothed in a splashy red jacket, instantly consumed by deafening applause. With a panoramic turn of the head, the sight of an entire stadium shaking filled our vision, every screw, every rafter thunderously bouncing.
    And then he started.
    “Hello, Goodbye”
    “Junior's Farm”
    “All My Loving”

Explosive drummer and crowd favorite Abe Laboriel, Jr“Yesterday”

Anecdote after anecdote, story after story. Like a ping pong ball, batting back and forth, from guitar to ukulele to the ivory. With more charm than a bracelet, McCartney wowed heads of industry and ground crew alike between the thirty- seven song set list. Often humorous (Did you hear the one about Jimi Hendrix asking Eric Clapton to hop onstage and tune his ax?), sometimes poignant (From the racially charged Black Bird to an open letter to John Lennon), and always from the heart, Sir Paul interacted with the audience in a way that made us each feel as if we were breaking bread with him in Liverpool. The Fifth Beatle. All fifty thousand of us.

Backing him was a collective that is vastly more talented than anything on the synthetic pop scene today. Abe Laboriel Jr., the hulking drummer, would have easily stolen the show had the front man been anyone but Paul. With his whimsical humor and aggressive, anguished face tempo, he ably played as well as Ringo (or Pete Best) might have. Paul “Wix” Wickens, Brian Ray, and Rusty Anderson completed the ballsiest background in modern music history-who else would want to follow in the Fab Four’s footsteps? With their assistance, we literally could recognize no difference between an original 45 LP and Paul and the boys, live.
Not once did McCartney appear tired, though our much younger contingent at one point had to sit down-blasphemous, we know. Not once did Sir Paul take a sip of water. In an era where performers 1/3 his age hold 30 minute sets and cancel shows for “exhaustion”, McCartney, the human Red Bull, schooled the world on how to give a concert. Several hours, thirty seven near continuous smash hits, two encores, and 50,000 witnesses to history. The ticket price was justified.

Something on George's UkuleleAs we attempted to leave midway through the final explosive encore-again, blasphemous- a fifty-something woman begged me for my field access wrist band. I obliged, and off she ran like a school girl, something the aloof and dashing McCartney seems to do to every woman in his path. After the show, the city lingered, not wanting the experience to end, collectively rehashing the event, some rushing home to buy his albums online, others holding impromptu jam sessions with their forgotten Gibson guitars. One woman who had the fortune of having her arm signed by McCartney speedily found an open tattoo parlor, and now holds Paul’s autograph close to her heart at all times. In our little group, I half expect the patriarch to grow a shag and follow the band around Europe.
If, at the age of 69, this was Paul’s last tour stop on American soil, his legend can only grow from such a dazzling display. In a media world that preaches objectivity and balance, we must buck tradition this one occasion. If you have tasted the finest champagne that ever was, there is no need to ever again sip a wine cooler. If you have played chess with Bobby Fischer, no game of checkers will ever suffice. And if you were there, on a pleasant August night in Cincinnati, where Paul McCartney re-wrote history, never again should another concert be attended.
Maybe we are being too poetic. Then again … Maybe we’re amazed.

    EXAMINER.COM
Next McCartney reissues to be released this month
Steve Marinucci, Paul McCartney Examiner  August 9, 2011
The next two Paul McCartney reissues are right around the corner -- Aug. 23, to be exact. Out on that date in newly remastered versions will be "Run Devil Run" and "Driving Rain," according to an informed source.
There will be no special or deluxe editions with these reissues. "Run Devil Run" will not include "Fabulous," the non-album track that was released on a CD single following the album's release.

"Run Devil Run," originally released in 1998, was a back-to-the-roots project for the former Beatle. The track list was made up of songs that he grew up with and influenced him. They included covers of Gene Vincent's "Blue Jean Bop", Elvis Presley's "All Shook Up" and "I Got Stung," Ricky Nelson's "Lonesome Town" and Chuck Berry's "Brown-Eyed Handsome Man." He also included three originals: "Run Devil Run," "What It Is" and "Try Not To Cry." Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour was among the band members playing on the album. To promote the album, he returned to the Cavern in Liverpool for a one-off live show. It was produced by Chris Thomas and McCartney.

"Driving Rain" was released in 2001, shortly after meeting Heather Mills, whom he later married. Several of the songs were inspired by her. The album also contains "Freedom," written about his experience on Sept. 11, 2001, when he witnessed the attack on the World Trade Center while on the runway at New York's Kennedy Airport. The story behind "Freedom" will be included in a Showtime documentary running in September. Musicians on this album include Abe Laboriel Jr. and Rusty Anderson from his current touring band, Eric Clapton and son James McCartney. The album was produced by David Kahne.

The two reissues are the fourth and fifth in a series of reissues of McCartney's complete catalog. "Band on the Run" was first in November, followed by "McCartney" and "McCartney II" in June.

Lady Gaga, Paul McCartney and U2 are among more than 150 musicians who have joined the “I`m gonna be your friend” social media campaign, backing a fundraising effort to help people affected by the drought in northeast Africa.
Universal Music Group, Facebook, Yahoo!, AOL, MSN, YouTube, Twitter and celebrities including Lady Gaga, U2, Eminem, Muhammad Ali, Jennifer Lopez, Elton John, Britney Spears, Madonna, Justin Bieber, Sting, and Rihanna are backing the campaign, via their huge networks of friends and fans on Facebook and Twitter.
The celebrities are asking people to pay to download a single by Bob Marley & The Wailers for $1.29, the campaign official site imgonnabeyourfriend.org said.
Visitors to the site are also encouraged to donate money and share information about the campaign in social networks and blogs.
Bob Marley & The Wailers’ 1973 song High Tide or Low Tide has been donated by the reggae star’s family, and appears on the site with footage of malnourished children.
“Bob's music has always conveyed a message of hope, unity and love. And this is a message needed now more than ever,” campaign organizers said on the website.
The campaign hopes to increase the number of participants to a billion people.
About 3.6 million people are at risk of starvation in Somalia and 12 million people across the Horn of Africa, the United Nations says. Thousands of families, including around 70,000 children, have been forced to flee their drought-stricken homes, with many now in overcrowded refugee camps.

    TATTOO

    METRO WEB REPORTER - 9th August, 2011

Beatles fan gets tattoo of Sir Paul McCartney's autograph on her back

Beatles fan Maggie Muldoon Silverstein had her back autographed by Sir Paul McCartney and then rushed to a tattoo parlour to make it permanent.

Maggie Muldoon Silverstein got the singer to write ‘Let It Be, Paul McCartney’ after he called her on to the stage at a concert. The 24-year-old then phoned the tattoo shop to ask staff to keep it open so the words, made by a black marker pen, could be inked on.
‘It was all so surreal but incredible,’ said Mrs Muldoon Silverstein. ‘The minute we got out of the concert, we called the parlour and told them we were on our way. I didn’t want to wait and I certainly didn’t want to go home and lie on it and smudge it.’
Mrs Muldoon Silverstein and husband Matt had been sitting five rows from the front of the stage in Cincinnati, Ohio.
He held a sign reading ‘Paul, sign my wife’ while she had one stating ‘I’m the wife, sign me’.
McCartney mentioned the notices in his performance and called the couple on to the stage towards the end.
‘Before he signed, he asked me “Do you really want me to do this?” and I said “Yes, yes”,’ said Mrs Muldoon Silverstein.
Her new tattoo goes with another on her which says Limitless Undying Love – words from the Beatles song, Across The Universe.

    McCartney's magical understanding of music

Song has healing power as Maysles documentary of Beatle's New York tour post 9/11 attests

By Alex Strachan, Postmedia News August 8, 2011
Sir James Paul McCartney was momentarily lost in thought. And even though his thoughts were silent in the empty air of a satellite transmission from Cincinnati, where he would perform a concert later that evening, those thoughts took on an almost vibrant, visible quality.
A writer from Postmedia News had just asked the former Beatle - an ardent, tireless supporter of charity benefit concerts and the most commercially successful songwriter in history, according to Guinness World Records - about the transformative, healing power of music, and why music can heal on a global scale following moments of tragedy in a way that politicians' speeches and the late-night comedy shows can't.
Documentary filmmaker Albert Maysles, the filmmaker behind Gimme Shelter and Grey Gardens, has crafted a new cinema-verite film, The Love We Make, chronicling McCartney's poignant, cathartic pilgrimage through the streets of New York City in the hours and days following the terror attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
McCartney appeared via satellite before the summer gathering of the TV Critics Association to promote the film's première on the U.S. paycable channel Showtime, on the 10th anniversary of 9/11.
Maysles chronicled the Beatles' first visit to America in his 1964 film, What's Happening! The Beatles in the U.S.A.
On one level, The Love We Make - shot in black and white, in the same grainy, 16-millimetre, handheld style as the earlier film - brings the story full circle. On a deeper, more fundamental level, The Love We Make is a chronicle about how an entire society can come together following a moment of life-changing tragedy. The centrepiece in the film is McCartney's involvement in the planning and performance of The Concert for New York City, the benefit concert at Madison Square Garden that was staged just six weeks after Sept. 11.
Maysles' film features never-beforeseen footage of McCartney wandering the streets of New York, kibitzing and connecting with passersby, as well as providing viewers with an all-access backstage pass to the concert itself.
The unifying link throughout, though - from The Concert for New York to Live Aid, The Prince's Trust, and The Concerts for the People of Kampuchea, to Band Aid, Knebworth, the Friendship First concert in Tel Aviv and Live 8 - is music.
"I've thought of it a lot," McCartney said, "because that's my game. I've come to the conclusion that it's magical. There's so much ... what is it? Shakespeare: 'There's more in heaven and earth than are dreamed of in your philosophy.' There's so much we don't know.
"When you get down to the scientific theory about music, it's about vibrations. It's measurable. The fact that there are vibrations working on people, that's part of the answer. In the future, I think we will know more about the science, a more scientific answer than I can give now."
"It's the first word I use: 'magical.' It is a magical thing, and I do mean that. People say, 'Do you believe in magic, you know, really?' I say, 'Yeah, I really do.' I think I have to.
"A story, just to quickly sum up: One of my most famous songs is Yesterday. Like Let It Be, Yesterday came to me in a dream, but this time, it wasn't just my mom saying a phrase. This was a whole tune in my head.
"I had no idea where it came from. Best I can think of is my computer, through the years, loaded all these things and finally printed out this song in a dream. I had this song that was to become very famous, and I just dreamed it. I have to believe that's magical. I have no other rational explanation for it.
"Music is a great, great thing, and I love that it can reach people and touch their hearts in the way that it can."

    PAUL IN THE OCEAN'S KINGDOM

    Ocean’s Kingdom – Tickets On-Sale
Ocean’s Kingdom ballet tickets go on sale today exclusively to American Express card holders. Tickets are available to purchase by all credit card holders on 15th August.

    Buy tickets from: www.nycballet.com/AXPOK

The new ballet, which will premiere at NYCB’s Fall Gala performance on Thursday 22nd September 2011, will mark the first time that Paul has written an original orchestral score for dance.

Trying to write something that expressed an emotion, so you have fear, love, anger, sadness to play with and I found that exciting and challenging.”

Peter Martins said that he and Paul met at the School of American Ballet’s Winter Gala in 2010 and shortly thereafter began discussing the possibility of working together on a ballet.

Details on the production design for the new work will be announced at a later date.

The 22nd September Fall Gala performance will also include George Balanchine’s Union Jack, the extravagant tribute to Britain that features nearly all of NYCB’s dancers. “We are so honored to have Paul working with us that I thought we would pay tribute to this extraordinary man by performing Union Jack on the same program.” said Martins.

Following the World Premiere performance, NYCB will give additional performances of the new McCartney/Martins ballet during the 201l/2012 season. The full schedule of performances will be announced a later date.
